How Tesla could have easily mitigated a lot of the issues: 1. Don't try to sell a car you don't have the title for 2. Don't try to sell a car you don't have pictures of 3. Don't promise services you can't fulfill.

The Tesla in space is not in earth's orbit. It was actually launched on a rocket that was supposed to reach Mars but it failed. This was the first launch of this model of rocket, so it's still impressive that it made it to space.

wallyhall Tesla has proven that it's more straightforward to launch twenty rockets per year versus manufacturing hundreds of thousands of vehicles. They would have been wise to learn some lessons from major manufacturers like Toyota instead of reinventing the wheel.
I appreciate your blandness in delivering what must be an extremely frustrating experience. It feels to me that rather than trying to make Tesla look bad, you respectfully explain your side of the story with the aim of resolving the issue amicably. I earnestly hope Tesla will admit they have a problem, admit this is NOT a rare issue, and start to apply some Tesla-style innovation toward their after sales support / CPO / customer service.

I'd have brought my kids to the dealer and told them I'm not leaving until I get the car I paid for and let the kids run wild. Did that at a bank once when they claimed they couldn't help me with a pay cheque they decided to hold for multiple weeks. They solved the problem within an hour.

I worked for a silicon valley start up (not tesla) and I can't tell you how similar your experience is to what I experienced. Literally unbelievable that something could be so poorly run. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong, times infinity.

Actual customer here. They’ve bent over backwards for me to make sure I’m happy with my Model S. How they treat Rich isn’t surprising, and I’m sure it doesn’t surprise Rich but it gets him a ton of UA-cam engagement from faux outrage.
@@waltnassty I mean it's possible, but it seems like they would realize that Rich has a huge reach with potential and current Tesla customers and screwing him over would cause more negative consequences than would providing him with a positive buying experience would. At least I hope so. The DIY rebuild and repair scene is going to come to a head at some point if they plan to continue manufacturing and selling cars and I hope that Tesla sees that trying to destroy it rather than work with it is just going to make it worse when, inevitably, shit hits the fan with people wanting to repair their cars without having to deal with Tesla's BS. There is a reason that car manufacturer's have developed the repair and sales system that exists today. Sure it may not be the most efficient or ideal, but at least it provides the customer with a relatively pleasant experience and things actually get done because there is a different party interested in each different aspect. I wouldn’t touch a Tesla dealership or website with a 10ft pole & this cements the way I feel. I was treated like a king when I bought my used $60k Porsche (not CPO) from a dealership 6hrs away. Threw a fully refundable deposit on it & they had a it sitting with a red bow on it when I got there & the paperwork was ready to go. They even gave me $100 worth of free stuff from the shop. Tesla will not be selling cars in another 10yrs.
@@adamfitz7695 Brand new. I can't find a used car sales figure, I don't assume it is very high though if i'm honest, not relative to the total sales figure. In the USA tesla sells as much as mercedes and more than BMW new despite only offering 3 models, world wide they are still a bit lackluster, but still. Tesla is no longer a start up. 2019 should sell well over half a million cars, if not there has been a major failure in the production ramp up. with the Chinese gigafactory and new models to be released, Tesla has a chance to up it's sells exponentially. eventually sells will Plato of course, but as is they are selling enough to be considered a major car company and should be held to the same standards as one.
They started in like 2007, in terms of automotive companies they're quite new compared to Ford or Nissan, but yeah it's still no excuse if they're pushing out so many cars a week

I was thinking the same thing. I would have called to make sure given the amount screw ups they've had shown him so far. I want to give people the benefit of the doubt, but seems like so many fail you can't assume they will get anything right.
We have a model 3 and I can say from experience that dealing with Tesla over email is a nightmare. We waited MONTHS for snow tires and never got them. We were lied to countless time or they flat never responded. I’m very happy you have this platform to share you’re experience because this bullshit needs to stop.
Seriously. My 3 was delivered without EAP enabled even though I optioned it and it was on the window sticker. Took 2 weeks to get them to flip the switch OTA. Shared my experience with other owners and they were just like "wow, 2 weeks? that was fast." Love the car, but man, their customer service and labor practices are kinda shit.
xomm not kinda shit, they are a big steaming pile of shit. We want to buy an X as well (and probably will) but I don’t want a repeat of the buying process of the 3 and the F’n snow tires we never got.
xomm when I finally canceled our snow tire order they emailed me and told me it would be something like 1 to 2 months to get my $2200 back. That’s when I finally lost my shit. Got the money back in a few days after waiting a week for them to actually cancel the order. I will never understand it.
I paid an depo of 4000 for an Model S and after 2 days I change my mind, i ask them to give me back the money and they never want to give me back the money. Bad Company and i will never buy from them...wait for other company to come out with Ev.👍

Tesla is by far one of the most fun cars I have ever driven, BUT, in all honesty, their Customer Support and their customer loyalty is toxic. Most of them dont give a damn about elons mission, and frankly if your not buying a few teslas from them, they dont care about you much. I placed my order for the Rivian R1T and am looking forward to a change. I think as more car companies offer electric, Tesla will die if they keep up with these antics. especially since they wont have the benefit of the tax credits soon.
I've bought 3 certified pre-owned cars from the manufacturer (Mercedes W211 E320, BMW F01 7 series, BMW F10 M5) all were available to be picked up same week. All were in perfect as new condition when I got them (any stone chips taken care of, wheels re-finished etc by default) The fact that Tesla pretend that they are doing you a favour to compensate you for waiting over 2 months by fixing some wheel scuffs and some paintwork is an absolute joke. Additionally, when you are buying something like a 7 series, BMW will loan you anything you want while you are waiting for your car to be prepared, right there and then, you don't have to wait a day or travel across the country to a different dealership
My brother bought a new Model 3 last year. Everything was set up and worked out ahead of time, just a matter of confirming the condition of his trade in, financing insurance etc, all is ready come on over. They flipped the script, wouldn’t honor what they agreed to, just a bad experience overall. Naturally he walked out. He did not have to have this car, he wanted it. Unbeknownst to the “service center” or whatever they call them, my brother worked for Tesla at a fairly high level a few years back. He knows some people. He emailed Elon’s chief of staff, whom he knows personally. Explained the situation, expressed his frustration and frankly disgust at how he was treated. Somebody got the ass chewing of a lifetime I’m guessing, he got his car, got all the things that were originally agreed to plus another $1000 off. On top of numerous apologies... ended well but Jesus, do you not want to sell cars?
I guess they lack selection and training of the employees, this isn't a high end issue, just on the low end, I bet It has been happening a lot compared to other car manufacturers, They really need to set up some proper training and selection before they recruit anyone...

But this is a million miles worse than my worst dealer experience ever. And I’ve had fantastic interactions and service with some local dealers.

I am having almost the same awful experience with Tesla Customer service. I have ordered on March 30th a used model S 85D. A week after completing everything on My Tesla account I actually had to call them to get some info on who was in charge of me. They gave me a name and somebody else called me to asked questions on things that I already fulfilled on line, like financing, trade-in, pickup location. After that they let me rot for weeks without any answer to any emails asking for estimated delivery date and reason why it was taking so long. I even went to the delivery center to ask what was going on and there was any other persons that I could reach to to make things happen. They put a note on the file saying that I passed by wondering and gave me the email of the manager (no phone numbers available). I emailed again with manager in Cc... didn't change anything... still no answer. I posted a really bad review on Google maps. They got back to me by email after another couple of weeks not even apologizing, just telling me that the car would be ready to pickup at the end of the week. I am scheduled for delivery tomorrow May 10th, 6 weeks after order. Considering that the sales persons at the Tesla showroom told me 3 days to a week because the used car I picked was local. I am now just hoping that the delivery will indeed happen tomorrow... I might just give them a call to make sure ;-)
Tesla has big problems.. with production line..service network, spear parts.. Quality management problems.. in 1-2 years in this game will step seriously Germans car companys and that will be game over for Tesla

Clearly nobody can do anything alone. The people that were hired to work at engineering are great people, have made great cars and rockets. However, it is clear that the people that work with logistics aren't as competent and since it is a new enterprise, they are not well organized and lack training and discipline.

But Elon is more than just Tesla and yeah, true, they aren't planning everything carefully, maybe because they lack the experience of other car makers that have had a century to refine their work. Elon is a great man, he is humble enough to admit his mistakes and work hard to fix them, but the people who work for him (let's not generalize, most probably not all) are too proud of everything they do, to the point of arrogance. Arrogance can blind people and so they won't admit their mistakes, or so it seems to me. Clearly if you buy a new Tesla car, you get the privileged attention and you don't have to wait much if you pay for the more expensive ones. However, it seems the ones who purchase used Teslas are out of luck. I can see this changing for the better, patience, and make them notice their errors.
They're just not organised with their selling of used vehicles. Tesla shouldn't resell used cars, they're too busy trying to work out everything else they're doing.
How is there not a huge class action lawsuits against them? Why do people keep agreeing to their ridiculous terms? How is it possible to have enough money to buy a Tesla, and not be intelligent enough to see it's a horrible deal?

Ugh, this must've been very frustrating, I can imagine. Pretty much exemplifies my experience in the US, tho. Not delivering on promises, weak excuses, generally disorganized systems, and then always the arbitrary "we're really sorry" at the end, like that's gonna help anything...
I have purchased 2 cars via their CPO program and each time it has been difficult. The first time I purchased a car online which had 15K miles when It arrived 9 weeks later it had over 16K miles. This last time (Dec 2018) I purchased a car which I knew I needed to pickup out of state. I flew in, picked up the car and they gave me a temporary tag for the state I was in; nothing for my states registration. I went to the DMV to register the car with the Bill of Sale and got into a who's on first loop with regards to where the title was located. Flash forward 5 weeks and someone from Tesla calls me about getting the car registered (I had been to the DMV 3 times in that 5 weeks). He told me he was going to overnight some documents that needed to be signed and returned so we could get the title out of limbo. Today, I completed the documents and overnighted them to Tesla. Will have to see where it goes from here. Keep your chin up! We feel your pain.

Plain and simple, Tesla is not a used car company. I've had the exact same issues with CPO purchasing from Tesla - and still don't have a title for the vehicle I purchased on Oct. 3rd. That being said, Tesla needs to partner with a company like CarMax to manage its CPO fleet. Have Tesla-certified repair-workers in each CarMax facility, reconditioning cars and making them available for pickup / delivery accordingly. The infrastructure is there, and they know how to manage the location of a vehicle.
I test drove a Model X and had plans to buy it, but videos like yours and many others where it appears on the most 10 unreliable vehicles list, etc. has given me great pause. Thanks for posting.
Fubar... when I went to the showroom in DC, I found the salespeople to be very nice but utterly incompetent. I loved the cars but walked out without purchasing as I had zero confidence in what they were saying regarding pricing and tax subsidies. Turns out I was right, which made me question everything about Tesla. Still haven’t purchased one.
Your car is being used all this time by somebody employed at a Tesla dealership while on a waiting list for a new car. You will never see the car until his is ready. Bank on it.

I have one question. If you're at the pick up location and they say we thought it was here. How is this an answer? All Teslas have GPS location, they could do a find my tesla and tell you exactly where it is?
The “Its a new company” excuses isn’t valid anymore. The S came out in 2012. If anything, it’s easier to sell online than a dealership, but they skip all the basic steps like having pictures.

So I’m not the only one getting yanked around by Tesla. I took delivery of a Model 3 2 weeks ago and didn’t even get a temp tag and no one seems to know where the title is. So i have an electric lawn ornament! Having waited as long as you have I would have gone ballistic by now. I’m starting to think this was a mistake.
I dont understand how you guys get cars in the states with no title. It's like buying a car from someone in canada and not getting the ownership and being able to do nothing about it. Yet we can go to our ministry of transport with a bill of sale and still make it change over.
if it makes you feel any better engineering explained got his car within 48 hours of ordering online. With major paint defects and the typical shoddy quality of all tesla products.
I also purchased a used Model X from Tesla in January of 2019. I received the car, but I'm not sure they do much to certify anything on the vehicles. I love my Tesla, but we have had to have three service stops to replace things that were broken before we even got the car and should have been fixed before selling it as a premium used car.

I always had interest in a Tesla. But, with all these “rare” issues, I gave up on Tesla.
Making me wary of them, too. I was interested in finally upgrading my Corolla, but this is a little much. Never had an issue with Toyota, and Toyota’s have a spare tire, which Tesla does not. Maybe after a few years, Tesla will get their shit straight.

Actual customer here. They’ve bent over backwards for me to make sure I’m happy with my Model S. How they treat Rich isn’t surprising, and I’m sure it doesn’t surprise Rich but it gets him a ton of UA-cam engagement from faux outrage.

The DIY rebuild and repair scene is going to come to a head at some point if they plan to continue manufacturing and selling cars and I hope that Tesla sees that trying to destroy it rather than work with it is just going to make it worse when, inevitably, shit hits the fan with people wanting to repair their cars without having to deal with Tesla's BS. There is a reason that car manufacturer's have developed the repair and sales system that exists today. Sure it may not be the most efficient or ideal, but at least it provides the customer with a relatively pleasant experience and things actually get done because there is a different party interested in each different aspect. Anyone who says buying a car is horrible because of the "haggling" and "car dealership experience" hasn't bought a car in the last ten years, because in reality the dealership isn't that bad.

I wouldn’t touch a Tesla dealership or website with a 10ft pole & this cements the way I feel. I was treated like a king when I bought my used $60k Porsche (not CPO) from a dealership 6hrs away. Threw a fully refundable deposit on it & they had a it sitting with a red bow on it when I got there & the paperwork was ready to go. They even gave me $100 worth of free stuff from the shop. Tesla will not be selling cars in another 10yrs.
They could have just lent you any one of the Model 3's gathering dust in parking lots around California.

In the USA tesla sells as much as mercedes and more than BMW new despite only offering 3 models, world wide they are still a bit lackluster, but still. Tesla is no longer a start up. 2019 should sell well over half a million cars, if not there has been a major failure in the production ramp up. with the Chinese gigafactory and new models to be released, Tesla has a chance to up it's sells exponentially. eventually sells will Plato of course, but as is they are selling enough to be considered a major car company and should be held to the same standards as one.
They started in like 2007, in terms of automotive companies they're quite new compared to Ford or Nissan, but yeah it's still no excuse if they're pushing out so many cars a week

We have a model 3 and I can say from experience that dealing with Tesla over email is a nightmare. We waited MONTHS for snow tires and never got them. We were lied to countless time or they flat never responded. I’m very happy you have this platform to share you’re experience because this bullshit needs to stop.

Seriously. My 3 was delivered without EAP enabled even though I optioned it and it was on the window sticker. Took 2 weeks to get them to flip the switch OTA. Shared my experience with other owners and they were just like "wow, 2 weeks? that was fast."

Tesla is by far one of the most fun cars I have ever driven, BUT, in all honesty, their Customer Support and their customer loyalty is toxic. Most of them dont give a damn about elons mission, and frankly if your not buying a few teslas from them, they dont care about you much. I placed my order for the Rivian R1T and am looking forward to a change. I think as more car companies offer electric, Tesla will die if they keep up with these antics. especially since they wont have the benefit of the tax credits soon.

I've bought 3 certified pre-owned cars from the manufacturer (Mercedes W211 E320, BMW F01 7 series, BMW F10 M5) all were available to be picked up same week. All were in perfect as new condition when I got them (any stone chips taken care of, wheels re-finished etc by default)
The fact that Tesla pretend that they are doing you a favour to compensate you for waiting over 2 months by fixing some wheel scuffs and some paintwork is an absolute joke.
Additionally, when you are buying something like a 7 series, BMW will loan you anything you want while you are waiting for your car to be prepared, right there and then, you don't have to wait a day or travel across the country to a different dealership
My brother bought a new Model 3 last year. Everything was set up and worked out ahead of time, just a matter of confirming the condition of his trade in, financing insurance etc, all is ready come on over. They flipped the script, wouldn’t honor what they agreed to, just a bad experience overall. Naturally he walked out. He did not have to have this car, he wanted it. Unbeknownst to the “service center” or whatever they call them, my brother worked for Tesla at a fairly high level a few years back. He knows some people. He emailed Elon’s chief of staff, whom he knows personally. Explained the situation, expressed his frustration and frankly disgust at how he was treated. Somebody got the ass chewing of a lifetime I’m guessing, he got his car, got all the things that were originally agreed to plus another $1000 off. On top of numerous apologies... ended well but Jesus, do you not want to sell cars?
I guess they lack selection and training of the employees, this isn't a high end issue, just on the low end, I bet It has been happening a lot compared to other car manufacturers, They really need to set up some proper training and selection before they recruit anyone...

I am having almost the same awful experience with Tesla Customer service.
I have ordered on March 30th a used model S 85D.
A week after completing everything on My Tesla account I actually had to call them to get some info on who was in charge of me.
They gave me a name and somebody else called me to asked questions on things that I already fulfilled on line, like financing, trade-in, pickup location.
After that they let me rot for weeks without any answer to any emails asking for estimated delivery date and reason why it was taking so long.
I even went to the delivery center to ask what was going on and there was any other persons that I could reach to to make things happen.
They put a note on the file saying that I passed by wondering and gave me the email of the manager (no phone numbers available).

I posted a really bad review on Google maps.
They got back to me by email after another couple of weeks not even apologizing, just telling me that the car would be ready to pickup at the end of the week.
I am scheduled for delivery tomorrow May 10th, 6 weeks after order. Considering that the sales persons at the Tesla showroom told me 3 days to a week because the used car I picked was local.
I am now just hoping that the delivery will indeed happen tomorrow... I might just give them a call to make sure ;-)

Clearly nobody can do anything alone. The people that were hired to work at engineering are great people, have made great cars and rockets. However, it is clear that the people that work with logistics aren't as competent and since it is a new enterprise, they are not well organized and lack training and discipline.

But Elon is more than just Tesla and yeah, true, they aren't planning everything carefully, maybe because they lack the experience of other car makers that have had a century to refine their work. Elon is a great man, he is humble enough to admit his mistakes and work hard to fix them, but the people who work for him (let's not generalize, most probably not all) are too proud of everything they do, to the point of arrogance. Arrogance can blind people and so they won't admit their mistakes, or so it seems to me.
Clearly if you buy a new Tesla car, you get the privileged attention and you don't have to wait much if you pay for the more expensive ones. However, it seems the ones who purchase used Teslas are out of luck. I can see this changing for the better, patience, and make them notice their errors.

Do not take delivery of the car unless they reimburse you for all your expenses including insurance to get the car.
Tesla wouldn't care, they would take that 2,500 non refundable deposit and relist the car.
I have purchased 2 cars via their CPO program and each time it has been difficult. The first time I purchased a car online which had 15K miles when It arrived 9 weeks later it had over 16K miles. This last time (Dec 2018) I purchased a car which I knew I needed to pickup out of state. I flew in, picked up the car and they gave me a temporary tag for the state I was in; nothing for my states registration. I went to the DMV to register the car with the Bill of Sale and got into a who's on first loop with regards to where the title was located. Flash forward 5 weeks and someone from Tesla calls me about getting the car registered (I had been to the DMV 3 times in that 5 weeks). He told me he was going to overnight some documents that needed to be signed and returned so we could get the title out of limbo. Today, I completed the documents and overnighted them to Tesla. Will have to see where it goes from here. Keep your chin up! We feel your pain.

Horror story time please!
Plain and simple, Tesla is not a used car company. I've had the exact same issues with CPO purchasing from Tesla - and still don't have a title for the vehicle I purchased on Oct. 3rd. That being said, Tesla needs to partner with a company like CarMax to manage its CPO fleet. Have Tesla-certified repair-workers in each CarMax facility, reconditioning cars and making them available for pickup / delivery accordingly. The infrastructure is there, and they know how to manage the location of a vehicle.
But Tesla does not want a third party being involved in selling their cars as it would degrade the experience...

Fubar... when I went to the showroom in DC, I found the salespeople to be very nice but utterly incompetent. I loved the cars but walked out without purchasing as I had zero confidence in what they were saying regarding pricing and tax subsidies. Turns out I was right, which made me question everything about Tesla. Still haven’t purchased one.
Your car is being used all this time by somebody employed at a Tesla dealership while on a waiting list for a new car. You will never see the car until his is ready. Bank on it.

I have one question. If you're at the pick up location and they say we thought it was here. How is this an answer? All Teslas have GPS location, they could do a find my tesla and tell you exactly where it is?
The “Its a new company” excuses isn’t valid anymore. The S came out in 2012. If anything, it’s easier to sell online than a dealership, but they skip all the basic steps like having pictures.

So I’m not the only one getting yanked around by Tesla. I took delivery of a Model 3 2 weeks ago and didn’t even get a temp tag and no one seems to know where the title is. So i have an electric lawn ornament! Having waited as long as you have I would have gone ballistic by now. I’m starting to think this was a mistake.

I dont understand how you guys get cars in the states with no title. It's like buying a car from someone in canada and not getting the ownership and being able to do nothing about it. Yet we can go to our ministry of transport with a bill of sale and still make it change over.

I also purchased a used Model X from Tesla in January of 2019. I received the car, but I'm not sure they do much to certify anything on the vehicles. I love my Tesla, but we have had to have three service stops to replace things that were broken before we even got the car and should have been fixed before selling it as a premium used car.
