- Masterboard or Collage Backgrounds can help you use up orphan ephemera. They are fun to make and if they turn out to be spectacular; keep the original and make copies to use again and again.

We would like to thank John Deley and the 41 Players for the use of their music - "Dixie Outlandish (Sting)" - for our intro and outtake.
What a great idea to use up scraps and stamps in a different way 🐞
I thought those little tapes I made out of the vintage book margins were fabulous. Just the right amount of yellowing. And so useful to add to projects.
All 4 cards are delightful!! So fun to watch you create them 😍
Thanks Betty!
Love your cards. These must have taken a really long time to create. I am always looking for ways to use up scraps including ephemera. These are totally different from my usual designs so they’re good to have in my saved videos. Thank you for sharing.
G'day Julia... making collages reminds me of my school days and pasting pics from old magazines using Perkins paste that came in a pink container with a white lid that had a firm plastic thingameegig under the lid to scoop out the glue. From memory the glue was white and had a really thick almost solid consistency, and you ended up with thick blobs of glue on your project! It was not the easiest of glues to use, and I doubt that they would make Perkins paste anymore... I wonder why???!!!
Your collage turned out lovely, and a wonderful background for your cards, and as always, your cards are colourful and beautiful.
Julia, I don't have any ephemera in my craft studio as I usually make the feature myself to pop onto the card. In the past I have had a love hate relationship with ephemera, and unlike you I always seemed to struggle with them.
Happy crafting my friend.
God's blessings, love and hugs from me...down under! 🙃🩷💐
Hey Gloria - I'm glad I could temp you down memory lane a bit. I remember those old white pastes, but not the name of ours. I remember it had a very distinct smell though. And I've heard of people with pica eating paste. Funny the things we think of when memory lane takes hold! God's blessings coming back to you from the northern hemisphere, in another season!
Oh Julia, I never would have thought to copy my scratch /testing paper😃 Genius! Im going to start doing that before i toss them😉
I have started a masterboard file. It can really save you some time and icky glue ups. After all, the base collage is pretty similar from one to the next. I added some gray ink shading to some of the top layers, so when it copies it really looks layered up.
I have way too much dsp, so i dont take time to get creative. I have organized my scraps by color, both solid and varied prints. This will make it easier to try this technique. Thank you for sharing!!
Love your cards, you’re so creative! I have a box of Nuvo drops ( approx 25+)packed away somewhere and you’ve inspired me to pull them out and start using them again. I’m great at collecting paper crafting stuff just not very talented in finding ways to use them. I’m determined to change that this year, more doing and no more buying. Lol 🤞❤
I just started using mine again too. They really add a nice touch at the end if you can set them somewhere and leave them alone LOL!!!
These cards are really cute. I generally like to make my own ephemera and that’s probably why I have so much ready made of it in my stash. I need to try using it up and this idea helps get my creative juices flowing! Thank you!
You are so welcome Judy! Ephemera is a lot of fun to make. It's easier to make than use up I think...
I have been fascinated with the master board concept. I have been watching UA-cam videos. I too thought it would be great to then cut up for cards. I have all of those script and other stamps. So now I take a deep dive.😊❤
Good for you Carolyn! I find when I'm doing collage, if I stay on the perpendiculars it usually turns out really well.
Love all 4 of your cards, they are beautiful!!
Thanks Helen! I appreciate you!!
Girl, you have some serious mojo going on to know me so well 😂. I discovered you several years ago when I was looking for ways to use up my card-making scrapes, which has led to my new foray into collage art. What perfect timing for this video. Just as it was years ago ❤
Thanks Maribeth! I am so glad this video is useful for you. Keep on crafting and creating!
Julia, I love the master board/collage you created, and the cards are so pretty. Not sure I could have put my cards together so quickly. I tend to over think my layouts way too much.
Thanks for all the tips you included in this video. ❤
LOL - Gigi that's the power of video edit! The original video was 1 hour and 20 minutes. I whittled it down to under 30 so we wouldn't have to watch me trying to figure out what to do with stuff! It's not you, I do it too!!!
@
Oh, that’s good to know. I feel a bit better now! Lol
AWESOME master board and cards!!! LOVE that you used the images from the Stampin' Up grid paper!!! FYI, I reach for your 1/4 inch layers for A2 base cards all the time. I hope you have a GREAT week!!!
Thanks Kathleen. I think that grid paper is definitely underutilized in collage. And I'm so glad that 1/4 inch chart is helpful. I frequently drag it out when I get down below the 2nd layer. It's a brain saver.
You have such lovely ideas. These turned out beautiful.
Thanks so much Julie!
Pretty cards. Stay warm!!
Thank you! I am hiding from the snow in my studio.
I enjoyed the video - the cards are gorgeous!
Thank you so much Sharon, I appreciate the compliment!
More great cards!
Thanks Paula!
Thank you for making this video! This looks like alot of fun and something I will definitely try once I’m back in my craft studio again. I love how all of your cards turned out! Paper Wishes has some fabulous papers and ephemera pieces and now I know what to do with some of them that I’ve collected over the years!
I am so glad I can inspire you to use your supplies in a new way Maureen! This is especially useful for using up those odds and ends.
I have had,a lot of odds and ends left over from kits but I've been working at using them up in recent years. It feels great to get to that point where you finally use them up or decide to toss the last bits! Thanks for the inspiration Julia!
You are so very welcome! I am really trying to get stuff used or moved along. I have too much paper and too many stamps. It's a struggle...
Love these, they’re beautiful!
Thank you, I was delighted to use up as many of the die cuts as I did.
Some really good ideas there! Thanks. And cough cough I have quite a few sticker (peel off) sheets .... Along with everything else. Great idea to use a magazine page as the base
Thanks Julie. Get those stickers out and put them to use!
Beautiful cards
Thanks Susan!
Looks like fun!!!
You're right Barbara, and relaxing. The process it just kind of mindless and you can listen to music or a good book.
These are really pretty cards! I have a bunch of ephemera unused. I don’t know if I can ever use it up, but I definitely need to try! When you move from one house to another, you begin to realize how much stuff you actually have, more than enough to last my lifetime if I never buy another thing (fat chance!).
That's exactly where I am Susan!! It's really a bit overwhelming. But, I am approaching it one project at a time. I keep my donation box under my desk, and I have my mystery pack drawer filling up again, to pass things along. So there is hope.
Thank you for the videoJulia, your master board turned out great, but your cards are fantastic the added black strip really made your cards pop.
I just made some master boards this morning and I didn't make cards with them yet but I'm glad I saw this video
because you just gave me some ideas what to do with them.
Oh that's wonderful! I finished another collage piece this morning that I kept to make copies of. On one of them I smooshed some additional color on and used a die cut focal. It turned out great too.
@@SeniorSusieStamps I like the idea of making copies of the master board background.
Love the cards! Thanks for sharing the inspiration! I’m gonna do this when I get going! I have some artful card kits too! ❤
@ I do to, I've started a file now and realize there are backgrounds I've made in the past and used, that I wish I could copy and use again.
@ There are several more of those to go through when I have time. Hope your mojo comes back sooner!!
