When I was studying for my Security + it seemed like the world just did not want me to finish it. It took a lot for me to get the study material and really put the effort in and just as soon as I was in a groove and feeling optimistic everything blew up. In the few months that I spend studying I lost a relative, got in a car accident, had my computer fail on me twice (first time the CPU cooler died, second time the CPU died which resulted in my having to rebuild the entire thing) and then after everything started to settle down I ended up breaking my ankle. That ended up being a blessing in disguise since being put of of work for a while really made me get my act together and finish the thing. Now I'm finally transitioning from my terrible manual labor job into the career I've wanted for years. Moral of the story is that life likes to throw things at you just as you really start to take things seriously. Don't like it stop you.
And as far as I understand, that's just for the exam. All the study material, test exams, lab "equipment", books and so forth is on top of that, so, not very cheap and frankly beyond my reach at this moment. I'd like to do it very much though and hope I will one day.
