  • CQB is always fun to break down, especially with how nuanced it can get. But you do tend to pick up on certain techniques that are maybe a bit TOO nuanced lol

Already being said by official sources that this was a video showing fresh recruits training. 17th is the Special Forces branch of Italian Air Forces, but a lot of people that pass the tests to get into it actually come from totally different specialties (Italian Air Force is not mainly infantry oriented), so they do a lot of shooting/tactical training from zero. Once they complete around 2 years of training they’re pretty good, but at the beginning you’ll find people that never touched a gun in their lifetime ⚔️

Nice video, as an Italian, I'm happy to see an Italian SF. In this case, it's the 17th Wing Raiders, the Air Force special forces as you well mentioned in the video. If I may, I'd like to add a couple of pieces of information that were mentioned in an Italian video commenting on the demonstration to provide a bit more context. Everything that's being done are real protocols. Then each scenario has its rules, and there are various techniques, but everything that was done exists and has its reasons. They were very conservative, meaning they took their time, cautiously, but this is often how it's done because life is precious.
They are students, so still in training.
At 4:05, the others don't follow because they would only be in the way, as if there were an emergency and they had to backtrack, there would be people in the way.
Later, he does the "nope" with the head and the rest of the team asks for the green light to proceed. As soon as they have the go-ahead, they move forward quickly, and proceed.
At 5:11, the last man holds the outer sector, and on the left, one watches the little mountain. Probably they don't have external security (that's why even when they take the hostage, they always exit cautiously, checking every corner again).
At 5:39, he's attached to the wall. He performed a breaching operation so he's not the most suitable person to enter second. He's also used to throw a flash or any maneuver that prevents you from being ready immediately because to enter, operators must be as fast as possible. It's non-verbal communication to tell the others to enter. Indeed, he'll be the last man to enter.
At 6:34, they remove their weapons, move away, unload, check that the target is dead, etc. This will be done for every terrorist.
At 7:24, the first operator presses against the wall to see as much as possible in his blind spot. He then executes a central step and before firing, says "drop the weapon." Again, the operator who had pressed against the wall enters last.
At 8:40, the squeeze arrives at the first operator on the right, who signals that he wants to enter with the movement of his weapon and is answered by the operator on the left, opening the gate and getting into air ready position. So, the gate open signal = you can enter.
At 8:53, as soon as they enter, they perform a strong wall. 2 operators go to clear the killed target, and the other two secure the doors.
At 10:16, an operator shouts "ace = ammunition casualty equipment." It's a request, a check control by the whole team on the team's status: that everyone has the necessary equipment, ammunition, no injuries, etc. Again, the operator behind the door will enter last.
At 11:30, there are two doors, obviously the priority is the open one. At 11:40, "short room" is shouted, meaning the room is small and doesn't need more operators.
At 12:20, once the threat is neutralized, they deal with the "sierra," i.e., someone who is not an active threat but could be one. So, any person we don't know inside a building. Every check is done in pairs, whether it's environmental (hatches, cabinets, etc.), of the dead or the sierra. If you're alone, you simply wait for someone to arrive (as the operator who checks the sierra does at the beginning).
At 13:50, she's handcuffed in front because she was cooperative, and it's also a signal to communicate it to the other operators. Otherwise, if she hadn't been cooperative, she would have been handcuffed behind. Meanwhile, they're requesting authorization to go to the exit point.
At 16:43, upon reaching the exit point, they communicate their presence to avoid "blue on blue" in case there's a team outside who, seeing men exiting without notice, might mistake them for others.

The difference to low ready is, that it is utter bullshit and has zero advantage compared to a standard ready position. Not what is the difference between low ready to high ready. Please read its important if I know that a soldier can read! Why does he do that out in the open when the enemy is likely over some hill or behind cover probably shouldering their gun at +15m distance away and could probably fire +10 shots accurately while he can probably only do 2 or 3 shots like that and then lose correct sight picture, especially since its an urban place there is civilians. Out of every shooter in the world alive today, would you pick this man to shoot a hostage taker who has your family in front of him? Or has 3 or 2 hostage takers in the room with your family in it? I don’t want to be the rotten egg.
But there is something I did not see. And some of the most important aspects of CQB.
SPEED….. SURPRISE…and VIOLENCE of ACTION. Train how you fight. The movements are too slow.
