The scene where Pearl and her husband reconnect made me sad, because there were a couple of younger people behind me that were laughing. I felt bad for laughing during some parts, but it was because I was uncomfortable, went with my husband who doesn't do arthouse and I knew he was regretting my movie choice, and I might have smoked a little before going to see it haha.
I love the cinematography, score, actors, and the location so much, this movie was very fun to watch at the theaters with my friends and I really am excited to watch the prequel and see Brittany snow and Jenna Ortega in more films they did so well.
I want to watch this a second time. It was certainly an experience. There was no part of me that expected any of the things I witnessed lol I was unsure how I felt when I left, but I think the very fact that I can’t stop thinking about this movie is a sign it was a good one. Sometimes things have to grow on me.
I really liked the movie. I do not like the trend of making older people look so decrepit in horror movies. I wish they just used an older couple. But everything else was great. It went differently than I was expecting from the trailer which I really loved.
Yeah, this. The fact that it was old age makeup was very distracting to me and did make me wonder if it was Mia Goth and her boyfriend (I don’t actually know who played the old man) in some kind of time loop.
I would like to think that was kind of the point though. I think they were trying to make a statement on how people in general view older people. I think If they didn’t exaggerate their decrepit appearance it wouldn’t get the point across as much as it does. But that’s just my take.
Yah that Landslide scene.. I was like omg am I going to cry rn? this movie is so sad. Also until sitting in the theater watching the movie I legit thought Martin Henderson was Owen Wilson and I was like what hilarious casting. Great movie glad you liked it!
I actually agree with you about the "old people" thing. First off, it feels too easy. Because it usually has something to do with their disabilities or their mental capabilities at that age. Which yes, leads to it feeling exploitative. I actually hate The Visit for numerous reasons but that's just one of them.
Fellow 30 year old here watching time fly by 🤣 I remember jamming to Kid Cudi a decade or so ago, and now Cudi pops back up and is starring in a horror movie. Never would have called that one! Can’t wait to see this one and Scott’s performance! Nice review!
the landslide scene made me cry and i actually really ended up loving it ! sitting through it was a little uncomfortable 🤣 but i really liked the message of movie and i thought it was just done really well 🥳
OMG thank you for letting me know about the post credits scene!! Also, I feel you so much on the “getting older” hitting so hard… it was an excellent movie!
First of all, happy belated birthday!! But I had a fun time watching this movie! I definitely think that one of the creepiest parts was the cinematography. There really wasn't many shots that were groundbreaking by any means (but the aerial shot of the pond really got me fidgeting in my chair lmao). But the lighting was done really well. The purposeful darkness upon Pearl's and Howard's faces really freaked me out, because I don't like not seeing something when I know it's there. But you were right, the acting, the score, the plot was all great! Definitely an easy re-watch
I’ve seen it twice now and I loved it even more the second watch! I brought different friends both times and they all loved it too. There’s definitely some underlying themes of aging and how our young beauty doesn’t last forever, which really hits home, THEN with the Landslide part, it was actually kind of sad and was trying not to get emotional at the theatre😅😭 Such a wild and fun time to see with people! Cant wait for Pearl!🥰🤩
I kind of felt the same stuff. I went into it with extremely high expectations. I definitely liked it when I walked out, but, the more I thought and read about it, the more I realized how much I was thinking about this movie. It’s very powerful in that way, and it has stuck with me in a way that has made me love it. I was genuinely uncomfortable and having a rising heartbeat during the last half of the movie. Also, I felt a bit terrible because my GF could not open her eyes for the rest of the movie after the first fairly gruesome death scene. The dance that accompanied that death really freaked her out, so I felt guilty for bringing her along with me. Overall, I would give this an 8 or 9/10. Really impactful and unique
That scene was so fucked up. My husband did not like the dance scene, but it was because he thought it was ridiculous. I definitely thought it added to the disturbing factor of that kill.
I’m so happy to hear you liked, I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen a lot of horror in theaters, but I wanted to see this for the cast alone, and I’m so glad I did. I loved it so much, I’ve never felt more in a horror movie, like I could feel my heart beat, the tension building was amazing!! I also loved it so much I actually bought an (overpriced, to me at least, I’m still new to collecting horror stuff, very new) t shirt from the a24 site, in 4 interest free payments of course because I’m not made of money lol haha
I saw this yesterday and absolutely love it. Especially the cast and direction. I loved Ti West and every member of the cast going into it and I love each one of them even more afterwards. Definitely my favorite of the year so far, maybe even the decade so far.
Okay im SO happy everyone is covering this movie, i was almost certain i was the only person who gave a fxxx about it. I saw a small promo of it in instagram like 5 months ago and i was sold on it. Nobody was talking about it, only like 2000 people followed the official instagram page. Im hyped that its hyped now!
Spoilers pls watch this movie. . . Maxine and Pearl being played by Mia Goth blew my mind after the film. I was so confused until I realized that's who Pearl was! And I had a strong empathetic/emotional pull towards her near the beginning in those lonesome sadder scenes and I was shocked to watch it unfold. Brittany Snows character being so friendly and normal with Pearl also gave me a similar warm feeling, though at that point I was expecting what happened a lil bit
one of my favorite parts of the movie is that without the horror parts, its a really heartwarming movie especially with all the characters. i also teared up at the landslide cover scene
Lmaoooo I’m dead at this comment becauase my entire theater burst into laughter at that scene and I thought the film was very clearly trying to be campy and cheesy, interesting to see others think differently lol!
ballads are always good especially in horror movies; to me it shows and tells how the characters usually wind up at the end of the picture. like a premonition
My husband and i recently watched the new spiderman and he teased me because i forgot there was going to be a post credits scene (which there ALWAYS is in marvel movies) so when we watched this in the theater yesterday i joked that there was a post credits scene and then we left. Had no idea there actually was one that i missed 😭
I just have to say I love this movie !! Mia goth was amazing!!! I’ve never seen her before or knew who she was but now I love her role obviously and will pay closer attention to her future performances. I can’t wait for the prequel. Mia was the star of this film that’s for sure!
I loved this movie! The more I thought about it the more I want to watch it again to see any tiny details I've missed. But for someone pushing 40 and seeing my life pass by without making much impact and relating a lot to the church mouse character, but never went out of my way to live a fulfilled life until my early 30's so yeah, by the end I walked out deeper into my existential crisis 😅
Been waiting for your review since I saw the movie 🙌 I personally did not like the movie at first but after kinda sitting and stewing on it I actually was able to appreciate it for what it is. As time goes on I find myself liking it more and more. I think it gives you an immediate uncomfortable vibe and it definitely got to me at first.
That's exactly how I felt about it! The vibe of the film in general was beautiful, but the scene that really got me was the "under the bed" scene. Disturbed, but I think that's what was intended.
Just saw the movie and absolutely loved it! And I'm usually not into slasher movies but this one has great characters that you actually care about that are played by great actors and I feel it made all the difference. I also really liked the aesthetic of the movie. As for your comment on ageism and if something is scary just because it's old people doing it, well for me anyway, I didn't think the killers were scary because they were old but because they were clearly deranged. As for the sex part, didn't think that was creepy at all. Old people have sex too and we will all end up there eventually so... All in all, would highly recommend this movie!
X is a decent film. I think I still prefer House of the Devil and The Innkeepers, but horror fans should definitely support Ti West and watch this at the cinema. The kills are ace!
I loved this movie, the evolution of the camera girl (who i thought would be the final girl) was interesting to see as well as the breakdown of her bf after kicking off our kill count, and the old person sex scene was both touching and incredibly uncomfortable to watch with my grandparents in theaters, overall really enjoyed this flick
X is a killer movie that takes horror tropes that have been used time and time again and turns them on their head. Ti West is tipping the hat to Brian Depalma, Michael Mann and Tobe Hooper,to name a few, with its beautiful execution. West does not let the movie slowly burn the viewer this time as it keeps you on edge throughout with almost perfect pacing. This is definitely one of his best.
I was so sad I didn't realize there was a post credits scene. I went with a friend and we were the only ones in the theater, and as soon as the credits started the janitor came and stood at the door and stared at us so we got uncomfy and left :(
I watched it last night, and I liked it. I wouldn't put it on the same level as Ari Aster, but I still enjoyed it. The gore didn't bother me because I've seen way worse; Pearl's sexual advances were more disturbing to me. One thing I really liked about X was the Easy Rider scene transitions where it jump cuts back and forth between scenes until the next scene officially begins.
I love Owen Campbell so I will watch anything with him in it but I'm especially excited for this one! Haven't seen it yet but glad to hear you liked it!
Same! That's why I watched this movie. I hate he hasn't gotten any love it feels like with this movie. My Heart Can't Beat Unless You Tell It Too was great as well!

I plan on watching it soon, I've recently subscribed to your channel. We have a little bit different taste in horror movies, but I respect your opinion. You're probably not too much into 80's horror, but there's a documentary on the subject called "In Search Of Darkness" . It covers pretty all of the horror movies of the 80's, I think it's a must see for all horror movie fans. Oh, and there's a part two of the movie also!☺️
I went on Friday to see it and loved it so much. I don't think I've ever been to an almost sold out slasher film where the whole audience was laughing for a large part of the movie. As soon as it's on DVD, I am buying it.
Such a good movie. When you rewatch you will definitely enjoy the landslide scene. There are great editing choices during it. The song mixed with the imagery gave me the feels. Glad you loved the movie!
My boyfriend cries when he hears landslide... and after he told me why I do to now because I never thought if what's actually being said in the song.. Anyways I'm glad you enjoy your bday! And I'm obsessed with your shirt! Loved this review. Going to try and get my bf to watch this movie and hopefully we'll like it as much as you did. We have loved all the movies you've recommended so thanks for having good taste♡
The aspect of this movie that I enjoyed most was the characterization of the main cast. I feel in any other movie, these characters would be annoying as all hell. Thinking back on how Rob Zombie writes horny people really makes me appreciate these characters more. They're all empathetic and caring people with a lot of depth. The character I loved the most was Maxine, I loved how much of a stone cold bitch she was. The whole climax of the movie, I was verbally cheering her on and grinning like an idiot, she was so fucking cool. She's in my top 3 final girls now, which are in no particular order; Stretch from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Maxine from X, and a tie between Nancy and Jessie from Nightmare on Elmstreet. Definitely getting this one on DVD when it comes out, holy shit
Not to mention Jenna was also in Studio 666! I randomly stumbled upon the movie when getting tix for Batman and never saw anything for it. So that was an unexpected surprise!
honestly thought you wore the ring shirt cause the guy who plays wayne was the same guy who was noah in the ring. absolutely loved this movie, i just saw it today! i went in knowing absolutely nothing about the plot and this hit every spot just right for me. i havent been this happy with a horror movie in awhile!
Loved the movie, I think a great lesson horror and slashers specifically could learn from it is MAKE THE AUDIENCE CARE ABOUT THE CHARACTERS BEFORE THEY START DYING!!!
It’s scary because we don’t expect the elderly to be this way, we mentally picture our grandparents or something, I don’t think it’s necessary because of the way they look. I think it’s all down to the viewer really and how we see things, I didn’t watch and think “oh creepy old people” I watched and thought what I mentioned earlier, which is also probably bad because it’s stereotyping, even if it’s sweet it still is 😂. Great video though! I’ll have to check out more.
X is a okay movie with good characters that are not stereotypical slasher movie victims with that said I was expecting more from this movie. The reviews I have seen didn't live up to the hype. 7/10
Oh gosh - I’m not surprised about Britney Snow since her character in pitch perfect was a confident/sex positive character and I’m even more excited now!!!
I was actually disappointed with this movie. I loved the videography, soundtrack, acting but the plot was just not it for me. I think it was all too predictable, not scary, and made me feel a little bored. I wish I liked it more because I love the 70s
Your Next is from Adam Wingard, but you almost had me there lol! I saw an early cut of X back in November and didn't think much of it, cause I'm not big on most of Ti West's stuff, but seeing the final cut was so much better. The original cut was full of people laughing at the old couple anytime they were on screen, especially at Pearl and it made the movie feel like it was also laughing at them, which really put a bad taste in my mouth. But the final cut really takes them seriously, IMO. They're not just scary cause they're old, they're scary cause they're a fucked up pair of people, who also happen to be decrepit lol I love the themes of desire and beauty and even though it is so referential, it does feel unique compared to a lot of horror right now. It feels like he took 9 years off from making horror so that he could really hone his skills and he came back swinging.
So this was a super helpful review. I'm not a big fan of A24. I knew this one was going to blow up, but I am actually a Ti West fan. You're Next is one of my favorite movies. Erin is by FAR, my favorite final girl. This definitely makes me think I might have to give this one a shot. I'm similar in my feelings on over the top sex/nudity in horror movies. I will definitely have to take a chance on 'X'.

I actually hate The Visit for numerous reasons but that's just one of them.
yes exactly!
Cant wait for Pearl!🥰🤩
what’s the landslide part? i’ve seen this film and don’t know what this means lol
@@boomerang-digital8514 the scene where Brittany Snow sings. The song is called Landslide by Fleetwood Mac lol
Can you please tell where to watch it for free
@@manashtiwari9334 just go to the theater, there is nowhere to watch it free
Okay im SO happy everyone is covering this movie, i was almost certain i was the only person who gave a fxxx about it. I saw a small promo of it in instagram like 5 months ago and i was sold on it. Nobody was talking about it, only like 2000 people followed the official instagram page. Im hyped that its hyped now!
I was probs one of those few thousand tbh.
Spoilers pls watch this movie.

I thought I was the only one
Same my best friend was like really you are crying
Lmaoooo I’m dead at this comment becauase my entire theater burst into laughter at that scene and I thought the film was very clearly trying to be campy and cheesy, interesting to see others think differently lol!
ballads are always good especially in horror movies; to me it shows and tells how the characters usually wind up at the end of the picture. like a premonition
where did you watch it?
I completely missed the credit scene for the preview! I’m so excited, thank you for letting us know!
I got to watch the trailer on UA-cam right before they removed it lmao
My husband and i recently watched the new spiderman and he teased me because i forgot there was going to be a post credits scene (which there ALWAYS is in marvel movies) so when we watched this in the theater yesterday i joked that there was a post credits scene and then we left. Had no idea there actually was one that i missed 😭
I just have to say I love this movie !! Mia goth was amazing!!! I’ve never seen her before or knew who she was but now I love her role obviously and will pay closer attention to her future performances. I can’t wait for the prequel. Mia was the star of this film that’s for sure!
i’m so happy you liked it!!😭😭😭 jenna did amazing and mia is A FINAL GIRL!😭
I loved this movie! The more I thought about it the more I want to watch it again to see any tiny details I've missed. But for someone pushing 40 and seeing my life pass by without making much impact and relating a lot to the church mouse character, but never went out of my way to live a fulfilled life until my early 30's so yeah, by the end I walked out deeper into my existential crisis 😅
Been waiting for your review since I saw the movie 🙌
I personally did not like the movie at first but after kinda sitting and stewing on it I actually was able to appreciate it for what it is.
@@charlene9489 yeah I could’ve done without that scene to be honest. 😅 Everything else was perfect.
Britney Snow absolutely did an excellent job !!!!
I love your top of The Ring, it looks so cool
I'm old (73) and maybe decrepit; but not particularly scary.
Mia Goth's performance(spoilers)...s are amazing. She blew me away.
X is a decent film. I think I still prefer House of the Devil and The Innkeepers, but horror fans should definitely support Ti West and watch this at the cinema. The kills are ace!
loved the movie and jenna's acting amazing as always, I need to watch x again
Jenna should have been the final girl.
I wanted her boyfriend to take revenge on her.
Instant Classic! Horror fans will be watching this 40 years from now!
Yes, I recognized the scene transition technique from Easy Rider & it worked wonderfully well in both movies.
Happy belated birthday Sarah!!! 🎂 🥳 🎉 💐 🎁 birthday twin. I was also born in 1990, and I will be turning 32 in August of this year as well. We are all growing up around here, and I am totally feel the same about time flying by nowadays. I love your movies reviews 👏🏻👌🏻
SPOILERS*
I totally thought the old man was going to have a heart attack during their love making scene. I thought the movie was setting that up the whole time lol
Oh, and there's a part two of the movie also!☺️
I just burnt myself trying to light this candles. 🕯 I really want to see this film.🎞 Thanks for the review.💛
Oh & sorry for your loss. Embrace that song even if it makes you cry because it connects you both x.
I went on Friday to see it and loved it so much. I don't think I've ever been to an almost sold out slasher film where the whole audience was laughing for a large part of the movie. As soon as it's on DVD, I am buying it.
I'm the same way - I love horror but was reluctant to watch due to my discomfort around sexual scenes and nudity. But I absolutely loved this movie
Tbh Justice for Bobby-Lynne. I liked her lol
Not to mention Jenna was also in Studio 666! I randomly stumbled upon the movie when getting tix for Batman and never saw anything for it. So that was an unexpected surprise!
I loved it more than I expected and Mia Goth did great as usual. I loved her in the Suspiria remake too. A nice homage to old school horror flicks.
honestly thought you wore the ring shirt cause the guy who plays wayne was the same guy who was noah in the ring. absolutely loved this movie, i just saw it today! i went in knowing absolutely nothing about the plot and this hit every spot just right for me. i havent been this happy with a horror movie in awhile!
fave character was the alligator
Loved the movie, I think a great lesson horror and slashers specifically could learn from it is MAKE THE AUDIENCE CARE ABOUT THE CHARACTERS BEFORE THEY START DYING!!!
Great review! I loved this movie so much too! Can't wait to see the prequel when it comes out!
My only real gripe with this film, is that it took a LONG time to get going. Otherwise, it was a nice entry in the retro-horror genre.
I can see that but I enjoyed the build up! reminiscent of Texas Chainsaw Massacre
@@PossessedbyHorror Yeah, I was definitely getting the TCM vibe, which is never a bad thing!
Absolutely loved this film! Exceeded my expectations.
Can't wait to see this tonight. Everyone raving about it has me so excited
I was expecting so much from it that when I saw it, I was a let down, it was pretty predictable for me, I really did wish I could've enjoyed it more.
I loved this movie SO much! I went in knowing absolutely nothing, only the title and that it was A24
I was actually disappointed with this movie. I loved the videography, soundtrack, acting but the plot was just not it for me. I think it was all too predictable, not scary, and made me feel a little bored. I wish I liked it more because I love the 70s
We love a queen that switches it up
I like that shirt. You usually sport all black (which I approve of) but it's cool to change it up every now and again!
Pearl looks very good and more disturbing type horror. almost like a jordan peele type thing. so excited for it
They literally sing landslide for 2 minutes in the middle of the movie haha. I thought the “something deeper” was pretty obvious. Great video!
I loved it, felt it was original creepy and satisfying. Something new!
Happy belated birthday!!!! 🎊🎉🎈❤ I enjoyed this movie a lot. I was really impressed with Brittany Snow. I've seen her in other things but she never stood out to me. You can see her growth as an actress in this film. Looking forward to seeing Pearl.
Adam Wingard directed You're Next
oops I know my bad
i thought you were going to skip this one because of its content- glad you enjoyed it!!
At first I was not interested at all by this movie, but you convinced me. Going to the theater tonight with my boyfriend to watch it!!
What did you think of it!
@@heatheraggus7501 Loved it, it’s very different. The filming is super nice and I liked the story. My boyfriend hated it, too much of a slow burner for him.
I loved X! Definitely recommend seeing it in the theater too because hearing everyone’s reactions made it so much more fun
We need more horror like this! (Can’t believe I didn’t stay for the post credits scene! I had no idea!)
I think they really underutilized Jenna Ortega, I wish she was used more in this movie, she's amazing.. but I think that's my only criticism
yeaaa when Maxine freed her from the basement and she was angry and ran out and got shot i was like welp that was stupid. i thought they were gonna team up
@@imParisthoee oh man, a team up final girls would've been awesome.. hated that they made her character an idiot at her last moments
I watched it on my 36th birthday yesterday! Totally agree with your beginning statement! 🤗🤗🤗😆😆😆
Was nervous about if it would be too much as well! But loved it!! So glad I saw it, the look of it was perfect. Makes sense that I'd like it so much because I'm a huge fan of You're Next too
I couldn’t agree more with you about X. When I left the theatre I was thinking it was alright and I gave it a 3.5 on letterboxd but the more I think about it I’d give it a 4/5. I honestly wanna see it again in theatres.
I'm dying to see this one - hopefully I can get to the cinema to see it before it leaves, but hard to do with a 2 month old 😅 really appreciated this was spoiler free as well, thanks Sarah!
Tell me about it.. I have a 2 year old and a 3 week year old.. I had to go to the theatre during their nap time.. I hope you get to see it.. it’s GREAT!
I wonder what the jump scare that she hated was? Im thinking it was when a certain object used to kill someone was removed from that person.... lol
Absolutely great review. Probably was gonna skip this one before watching this cos of the sex stuff but this convinced me otherwise.
It's strange timing that I've been in my feels about getting older and then I had sympathy for the old woman.
Watched it last night 👍 Absolutely awesome film.
Ankther great review! I love love loved this movie! I am so upset i didn’t stay for the after credits scene!!!
Jenna Ortega. From Disney Star to Scream Queen. Now that's Epic😎
i absolutely love X!! i’m so excited to watch it again. like you said, each character does such a great job! it made me sad to see any of them go :/
