Hands down one of the most incredible producers ever. Diary of a Madman ranks as one of the most sonically perfect albums ever. I was always curious how he and Randy put together Randys guitar sound on that masterpiece. Incredible distortion.

MIND BLOWING that Nick Menza's parts were an amalgamation of one take with no fills and then punching in for the fills. Incredible use of the technology. Also the story with simulating "Junior" Elefson's live on-stage positioning in the studio to get the right timing is incredible. On the video biography for Youthanasia Dave Mustaine said something to the effect of "They don't come any sharper than Max", and he wasn't joking! Those two Megadeth productions, Countdown and Youthanasia, are simply laser sharp and precise. Marty and Dave's playing is phenomenal, and then you combine Max's punch-ins on the digital platform, it explains how such complex material sounds so perfectly recorded.

Countdown To Extinction and Youthanasia are both my favorite Megadeth albums. And it's not just because of the music. Is REALLY because of the way Max Norman produced them. The proof is other songs that I love are; "99 WAYS TO DIE" and "ANGRY AGAIN". THANKS, MAX NORMAN! The other albums of the band are just OK. And I'm a BIG FAN of the band... I know the importance of MAX to the band. Without him, Megadeth is just 70% what they can be with Max.

Peace Sells , with its elementof jazz injected into it , as time passes by, will grow even more in stature, its unique (with KIMB also to a lesser degree) for its time. Honestly, Dave has more than one album, that as time goes by, could be considered in the greatest metal album of all time debate, think he did ok for himself after taking a boot in the ass from Metallica

Megadeth sounds fine without max but he brings a really cool sound to the band. Listen to sfsgsw, it sounded very good IMO. Also dystopia, endgame and United abominations sound great so..

Great GREAT observation about how superb Mustaine's lyrical composition is. The "tangled abstract fallacies" from Addicted to Chaos was one of my favorite phrases from the that track (one of my favorites of the entire band). Cheers Max!

Who on here remembers an obscure hard rock band from Canada that put out 2 albums only called, SEX? Their first album was called, SEX - "Self-Titled" (1970) and, SEX - "The End Of My Life" (1971) if you've heard of this band (which is a 3 piece, btw) you'll win a half eaten sandwich and a pack (1 pack) Quaker Oatmeal with your choice of Apple Cinnamon or Brown Sugar and Maple. It can help you live a better life.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Megadeth classics was essentially a Max Norman project. One has only to listen to everything they did with Max (Rust in peace (partially), CTE, Youthanasia), and realize who was the master of sound and melody there. What they did after firing Norman is a lot weaker to me (I personally have a hard time comparing Risk to CTE). Dan Huff and Bud Prager are great too (keep in mind that Huff took part in the recording of Whitesnake classics and how tracks like Crush'Em have stunning resemblense of Whitesnake riffing) ... but still, for me personally, the classic "Mega-Dave" only works in symbiosis with Norman. There are producer/performer combinations that work together better than usual (like Desmond Child and Bon Jovi).

Cmon man, peace sells is one of their masterpieces , killing is my business has great hooks , Chosen ones , killing, rattlehead, looking down the cross, all the catchy stuff from so far so good , Dave was then and is now and will be the brains behind Megadeth ,let's not get it twisted ,I've been following this guy since Metallica he was legendary status before Max or Marty for that matter, and the last two albums are on par again after the early 2000s which wasn't bad bad but not as good.as the earlier stuff. But Dave's the man he was THE guitar player in Metallica, James wasn't playing all the time and.he sharpened his chops at the feet of Dave Mustaine , same with Kerry King , who has said it in several interviews, Dave was a.couple of yrs older and little angrier considering his abusive childhood it all worked into the recipe ,he didn't need anyone writing his songs although he is easy to work.with not so much to live.with off the stage,

That was just Brutal.. In every sense. Never heard of Coney hatch before.. But watching this guy.. Andy get emasculated/doing it too himself.. Starting at 15 minutes and 45 seconds mark.. That was unpleasant to listen to.. Wow. It reminded me of Will Smith and Jada sitting at that table. After all these years.. I would not if I were him have participated in this podcast.. That was nasty and degrading.. To watch him talk about that.
I went and listened to that song he did vocals on.. Pretty good. Then I listened to the other lead vocal guy.. To be honest.. A bit over bearing.. Too strong. But that was just brutal to listen to this guy say Yeah.. They were right.. I wasn't good enough.. I conceded. Never should have conceded.. And then talk about it in a podcast. I stopped watching just after that.
Ok.. I just went back and listened to She's gone.. With the other guy on vocals. That other guy only has one tone.. There's something missing. Then I went back to Andy's song.. I think Andy is better.. More interesting. I think Andy should have stood up for himself back in the day.
Just got a second opinion on this. I asked my partner if she would listen to a snippet of two songs. I said.. Can you just listen to this.. She's gone. She did.. After a minute or so.. She went to Wrong side of town and listened for about a minute to the vocals. I then said. Which did you prefer.. Vocal wise.. She gave it some thought and said.. The second one.. Better tone.. Easier to listen to. For She's gone.. There is no tone.. No range in the vocals.. It's not interesting. With wrong side of town.. The vocals are interesting.. There's character there. That was one bad studio decision. Put your balls on a platter.

In other interviews he has highly praised Dave for his leadership and choice of band members and his ability to put his ego in check, so I'm sure there is always going to be things that may rub people the wrong way at that level when absolute perfection is attempting to be achieved by perfectionists
