Yeah, WWE's hegemony has done some really goofy shit and it puts a bad taste in the mouth of anyone who wants to see wrestling for the first time. If they had more stable, well known competition in the States, then they wouldn't have gotten this cocky.
The wwe killed the business when they started to listen to the hardcore fans. The casual fans are the majority and therefore will always be the most profitable and prioritised part of the audience however the casual fanbase has gotten progressively smaller so the hardcore fans have a more prominent role than ever. They are the ones who put over these midget jabronis that come up from nxt and now plague the roster. These people aren’t superstars, they will never draw and the majority of fans don’t wont to see them. However thanks to triple h they are front and centre. The wwe needs more superstars who look the part and they need to produce more soap opera type tv. 20 minute matches between vanilla midgets does absolutely nothing.

In recent years I’ve appreciated Jim’s perspective on Kenny’s style and the Indy style as a whole while also respecting Kenny and what modern wrestling has done for the sport. I see exactly what Jim hates about Kenny’s matches and character but also what makes his matches and character attractive and special. What I wish is that Jim would take a longer look at NJPW because I think he’d appreciate people like Okada, Ishii, Jay White, Shibata, and Takagi.

It's been almost 30 years since the last time I saw kenny but I remember him as being a genuinely nice person who was always kind and would give you the shirt off his back, he lived a few houses away from me when I was a kid and was in my first/second grade classes, and before anyone calls me a liar I have class photos to prove it.
I'm sure that if jim were to actually sit down and spend a little time with him he'd actually come to like the real person behind the character he despises so much and his opinion would change.

A lot of music snobs hate Steve Vai because they think that his style of "tehcnolodic" (his term not mine) neo-classical shred guitar is "boring and overdone" but if you sit down and actually listen too his work (especially the entire Passion and Warfare album) you'll hear some beautifully layered complex and deeply moving compositions.
Personally I find WWE's product to be mind numbing (I haven't watched more than an hour of RAW in several months) and I haven't really watched much AEW so I can't say one way or the other if its good or not but the few times I have watched its been when his matches were on and the only thing I thought of was that I was happy for him because he was able to follow his passion and get where he got.

He is recognized by almost the entire industry as one of the best. Numerous current wrestlers have also said as much, even if they don't like his attitude. Wrestling is unique to the individual. Hes a bit lackluster in the character department. He wrestles great matches but Im not invested in his character as I am to Cody,Hangman,Pac- I watch&enjoy his matches for the entertainment value. Kenny is kind of just there as a character- he comes across as just another guy to me.
@Anthony Cruz um, you should really check out his matched against Okada, Ishii, Tetsuya Naito etc. in the G1 climax. They're all less than 30 minutes because they have to be (G1 has a 30 minute time limit) and they're phenomenal matches.

I am from Winnipeg and saw Kenny/Tyson a lot in bars wrestling and he did the stupid shit. It was annoying more than funny. It was like going to a magic show see the illusions and then at the end some athletic dick would come out and explain it all and show it and have this facial expression like, "fuck wrestling" He was always either the main event or high mid card in the bar scenes, but ruined the aurora of the business, but yet half the fans liked his shit (8 out of 16 at the show). I get Corny on Omega and agree.

If Cornette played some more video games or watched a bit more DBZ/HnK he would understand how amazing Kenny is. Kenny basically operates like he is the best boss fight of all time.
Most wrestlers only telegraph a finisher but quite a few of Kenny's moveset are telegraphed which allows the move to be subverted/countered in a way that generates lots of suspense. Expressing "THAT'S IT!!" before attempting the Buckle Bomb, Tapping a beat on the mat before performing The Terminator (Tope con Hilo).
Moves where he always tries to do 3 in a row like the Snap Dragon Suplex or Polish Hammer allow the literary rule of 3 to be used, where the first 2 will often hit but the 3rd will usually be evaded (but sometimes he counters their counter back into it the 3rd one for a huge payoff).
Some of Kenny moves are linked together such as the Basement Dropkick -> Kotaro Crusher or the Nip-up Rolling Senton -> Moonsault, which allows for his plans to be thwarted during the sequence to clearly indicate that he has lost control of his opponent.
Kenny has 2 running styles to visibly indicate whether he is in control of his own momentum or not, if he gets irish whipped he will be out of control but if he rebounds twice you will see him transition back into his intensified running style.
Kotaro Crusher even has a special rule on it where super gymnastic guys like Jack Evans and Pac are totally immune to it (Pac handspringed out of it, Jack Evans break-danced out of it). This is why Kenny Omega can be the best wrestling performer of all time in terms of self contained storytelling within an individual match.

One of the big problems with Wrestling in this era is we know too much about their personal lives. All these podcasts, streams, social media apps and everything has turned wrestlers from people who took their character as serious as anything else and protected them always into one's who, well, don't. It has killed that part of the enjoyment for me, and it's a huge part.

I usually think claims of “exposing the business” are stupid, but that was seriously a throw-away promo that publicly stated Taker’s name and the fact that he has a family, for what may have been the first time ever breaking Taker’s kayfabe on tv. I don’t know what they were thinking. If you want to make things personal to set up a feud, you don’t just humanize your larger-than-life character. That’s like John Cena doing a promo against The Fiend and saying “By the way, The Fiend’s name is Windham Rotunda and he has kids”. It’s ridiculous.
@@jacobgriffin3579 They actually did that once before when Taker's wife at the time, Sarah, came out and did a promo calling him Mark and blahblahblah. To be fair, though, that was during his biker gimmick days when they were trying to humanize him more for....reasons?
