At 68, I've been using Beat Saber for the same purpose - balance, coordination, reaction time, and aerobics all in one. Judging by how I've improved since I bought my Quest 3 VR headset (from terminally pathetic to expert mode sight-reading) I'm certain that it's helped all of these. Plus, it's huge fun and you can play by yourself. I understand this means missing the social interaction part, but for me the flexibility to grab a free hour to play whenever I want is what makes it work for me. I also ride a mountain bike a couple days a week so I can't discount the synergy between these activities for my overall athleticism.

@@KenOtwell thanks for sharing. Sounds like a cool way to do it! I should have mentioned in the video, I am still running and lifting to keep up the overall fitness. It is good when your activities help support each other.

I practice qigong. it is adaptable to those who are just beginning and requires no equipment or even a partner. However, like Taichi, it can be practiced in a group and can be used for strengthening, stretching or any physical goals. In addition, for qigong, the space requirements are minimal, so can be practiced anywhere, at any time of the day or night. P;us, it can be learned online from highly skilled teachers, Master and Grandmasters.

Im 76 years old and play ping pong and pickleball. Love both and find that the exhortations of delight when you make a great shot and the despair and disgust at missing an easy shot really enhance my mood. Lots of laughter too. Pickleball is a bit more dangerous but not if you play with people of your skill level. Also, I'm wondering about the benefit of drawing with pencil and paper. what does this contribute to hand/eye coordination real and propriocentric awareness and focus. I enjoy your content.

Hi thanks for sharing. Ping pong can be great fun! Though I need to take it less seriously! I would think that drawing would help with all the things that you mention. And I would think could be meditative. I did some drawing a long long time ago. One of the things I found was that I noticed the look of objects much more.

One things that has revolutionized ping pong recently is virtual reality. Eleven VR is a very impressive simulation of actual ping pong that you can play whenever and wherever you are against a computer opponent or millions of people around the world. The easiest way to try it is to use a Meta headset that you can pick up for fairly cheap and doesn't require a computer or console.

I haven't played table tennis in a few decades, but what I recall is a very dangerous sport that on nearly every serve devolves into accelerating bursts, change of direction, jumping, and diving...

@@JDEG100 when I was playing in jr high and high school my knees, elbows, and forearms were constantly bruised and scraped bloody from diving, I occasionally pulled and tore joint and muscle area, and I made hard floor contact on occasion to other parts of the body like my chin, back, shoulders, and head would receive trauma. I remember a lot of sliding into things after diving for the ball.

@@Doing_Time Maybe it was too much, but playing occasionally 2-3 times a week is safer.
In any case, I think that there are other sports and activities that will work in the same way, it is about finding what adapts to each person.

Makes sense. I recall that Pickleball was also ranked very high and is something that older people can do.

Hi Peter, thanks. I have never seen pickleball but it does seem that it would be good for longevity. I did see a video by Dr Daniel Amen which mentioned both of them for brain health. He preferred table tennis as it is faster.

You'll have a hard time avoiding then because basically any channel does that now... Maybe set your priorities to more important things.
