I just picked up Sidar! I’m glad you guys put the cards you’re using up on the screen so I can read them. As a new player to magic being able to pause and read a card and then see how it’s played is invaluable.

Last week, my friends finally successfully baited me back into Magic by teaching me how to play Commander. Today, I went to my LGS and picked up the Cavalry Charge and Call for Backup precons. Came across this video as I was looking for video guides on how to play both.This channel and all 4 of you gentleman have a new fan, follower, and subscriber after this video, definitely looking forward to more! And I am even more excited now to playtest both precons with my friends tomorrow :)

@@TheChadMagic Thank you kindly! Apologies for the late reply, but the games I played with my buddies were all INSANE. I went 0-2 with Call for Backup but that's because all the +1/+1 counters resulted in me being deemed the imminent threat so everyone teamed up to take me out first xD but then I ran it back with Cavalry Charge and won 3 straight games even with my buddies all running different decks each game hahahaha.

I think the cavalry charge is the strongest imo! I’ve finally managed to play them all now, I think Christian probably just didn’t draw the finisher that he needed!
Finally found MOM precon gameplay with Kasla. Almost every other channel featured the exact same matchup, benching her. Thank you! It was a delightful game.

Man, what a turn at the end there! A great game all around. everyone got to do something swingy, but I think the real winner here is planechase. Turns out Doubling Season is a good card.
Still, the fact that a precon can have turns like that is definitely a testament to how strong they've become. Looking forward to the next one!

great game! i myself play the sidar jabari precon, and watching sidar come swinging out the gate back at ant after that heavy hit made me smile! definitely a strong deck to look out for, with or without the plane chase!

not gonna lie, i was rooting for christian, since he was playing what i bought.
i enjoyed the politicking, and passing around the active plane was a great idea -- usually we just put in on the center of the table. i will try and do the same in my own playgroup. here's hoping for future channel growth!

pretty sure on the turn bright palm was played vesuva would have made a copy while the legend rule would have made 1 of them be sacrificed the backup trigger would still happen from it entering the batterfield so could have done 2 bright palm triggers
To be fair we realised this at the time, however I missed the trigger and I didn't want to take it back. Still a really fun deck to play.

Great game! Unfortunately those precons got a bit of a bad rep for some reason, but I've seen them do fun stuff several times now and this was definitely an amazing showing!
The precons are really good! I suspect the lack of love is because they are explicitly designed for planechase with a few cards in them that only work in that type of game

Complete newbie to MTG in general. Played a commander game with friends who love MTG and now I am watching videos to get a better understanding of MTG in general and the mechanics around Commander.
Can anyone explain though. Can treasure and clue tokens attack ?
Are they not just artifacts ?
I must admit I got lost in Louis' last turn and how he was able to pull all that off and primarily what killed Christian ?
I know I have a load to learn but if someone can break this down for me, that would be amazing.

It's been a long time since we filmed this game so the details are mega hazy I'm afraid but if there were any significant rules errors made, you will probably find them pointed out and addressed in other comments. I will however do my best to answer your questions 😊
Treasures and Clues cannot attack, they are artifacts with activated abilities to gain life or make mana. However, there are cards in Magic that can turn your artifacts into creatures (sometimes for a limited period of time and other times indefinitely) - there's a good chance a card like that may have been played in this deck as this set contained weird tricks like that!
Luis's last turn was very complicated - essentially he had Academy Manufactor out which meant, if he ever made a Treasure, Clue or Food artifact, he would instead make one of each of those. He also had Hedron Detonator in play that deals 1 damage to an opponent every time you make an artifact. Combine this with the effect that doubled your token production (Treasure, Clue and Food are tokens) and Luis's ability to make large amounts of Treasure (I can't remember what he had that did this) then he was easily able to deal loads of damage to everybody and win! When he said 300,000 damage at Christian, he was just joking! Christian died in the same way as Ant and I did!

I must have missed Hedron Detonator's ability when I was watching it.
That now makes more sense, the artifacts are not 'attacking' but just dealing damage.
And each time one of those named artifacts is created it also creates the other 2 and they also double due to the planechase.
Dealing damage for each artifact cast this way.
What a turn !
Still a lot to learn but loving every second of it.

Yeah, you're right. Realised straight after filming. Happens to the best of us, especially when playing a new commander straight out the box. Hope you still enjoyed the episode! 😅

How do you all feel about the Growing Threat precon? It was the only one not featured today, it definitely has an interesting new mechanic.
new mechanic, but not so cool cards inside.. for me. i will definitly build a phyrexian tribal deck with some incubte, but less artifacts
I think I agree with Elohim above! Christian and I both liked how the decks looked but there just wasn’t a really cool reprint inside to push us into getting it! I think it will be powerful though with real potential for fun combat trickery

Remember. Bright palms effect of giving to that creature the double tokens happens until the end of turn of when she is summoned. It's not an every turn effect
Correct, but bright palm still has the ability herself when she attacks.
Luis careful with your words and remember…Christian is the threat…playing the deck I want!!!

Great game but they kept misplaying bright-palm she clearly says until end of turn you have to keep blinking her for that effect.
Hi! And thanks for the comment! Bright Palms ability also triggers when Bright Palm attacks! So when Ants commander attacked, he was able to double up counters! Hope that clears things up 😊

The cutthroat negotiators seem to be making too many treasures? 4 nonland cards shown = 4 treasures, doubled to 8 because of the Planechase. Am i missing something?
He was counting both of them to make more so the game wouldn't have ended with that win

I've got a question. Why dit he make 16 treasures of of cutthrought negotiator should it be 8 ( 4 doubled because of the planes ) ? Cutthrouth doesn't double it himself because those are separate abbilities.
The ability gained by backup only lasts till end of turn. You wouldn’t of been able to make the 9/9 an 18/18 since it didn’t have the backup ability anymore
Hi there, I was careful to make sure that bright palm attacked to ensure that doubling trigger. As you were correct to point out, the backup ability was only till the end of turn, but luckily bright palm can attack and trigger the effect again and again. It's ability was brilliant

How did the ending combo work? I didn't understand too many artifacts
Hi and thanks for the comment! Luis had played Hedron Detonator (does one damage to any opponent when an artifact enters under your control) and Academy Manufactor (when you create a treasure, clue or food, you instead create one of each). This meant that, together with the plane that was in play, if he created any of the three artifact types mentioned above, he would actually have 6 artifacts enter (so 6 damage).
He then goes to combat, attacking with both the OG and the copy Cutthroat Negotiator (when you attack, each opponent reveals top card of library, you make a treasure for each non land then each opponent draws a card). Because of the copy, this happens twice. He got 5 nonland hits off of this I think so loads of treasures, clues and foods entered - loads of damage.
He then uses his clues to draw cards, draws Brass's Bounty (make a treasure for each land you control) and wipes us out!
Hope that clears it up :)
