  • While Jimmy Valiant celebrates the success of his hit song, Jerry Lawler and Bill Dundee interupt his interview to suggest a concert featuring Lawler and Valiant together. Jimmy's response isn't very respectful and Dundee seems to be losing patience with the Boogie Woogie Man's baloney.
    Date: November 11, 1978

    Handsome Jimmy was my all time fave. He was one of, if not the first, to be synonymous with his music and get the big pop from the first note. The Boogie Woogie man was also one of the first to wrestle like a heel and still be way over, something Roddy Piper and later Stone Cold borrowed heavily from.

    @arkansoul 13 років тому +1

    @bubbaj232 I'm not saying he got it from Handsome Jimmy, but Jimmy gave those wild, fired up interviews before Randy Savage. Now, I saw the ICW, the promotion the Poffos owned in the late 70s-eraly 80s and Randy had the same swagger but Jimmy did it first. To answer your question. I don't know where the Macho Man got his inspiration. It's not easy being unique with soooo many wrestlers.

    @SLBURN50 - I agree that Jimmy Valiant was very influential. In Memphis, he absolutely captured the imagination of the fans, whom loved him unconditionally. But, yer right--I never hear anyone in the industry giving Jimmy much credit. In fact, it crawled all over me when, during a shoot, Ric Flair wouldn't honestly admit that the "Whooo!" came from Valiant. He gave some lame answer that was obvious BS.

    @PeeboTyson According to "To Be The Man", Flair got "WOOO" from Jerry Lee Lewis's song "Great Balls of Fire". He got the nickname "Nature Boy" from Buddy Rodgers who got it from a Nat King Cole song.

  • @arkansoul
    @arkansoul 13 років тому

    @bubbaj232 I didn't know that. I appreciate this new knowledge. I guess that's why when then ICW folded he and the Poffos came to Memphis. They both had similar voices so it makes sense. Thanks again...

    You are acting as if nobody in wrestling ever used another persons move before lol...This is from 78 right? Hogan didn't started using the leg drop until about 1983...point is everything is stolen...Valient didn't invent every move and character trait he used did he? No, everything is stolen and repackaged.

    @mamacornettesmoney I hear what you're saying, and I agree that Hogan built the majority of his character on bits that were around long before him, but I think there's something to be said for the fact that Hogan took it to the next level. Look at WM3, 93,000 people (still the largest indoor attendance record, I believe) and every one of them goes apes**t for Hogan. Originator? No. Master? It's hard to argue with the numbers.

    • @frankcabanski9409
      @frankcabanski9409 3 роки тому

      Yes. The greats made it their own. Valiant made what he copied his own. Flair made what he copied his own. Superstar Billy Graham did it, the Macho Man, Hulk Hogan. They took elements - put them together in different ways.

      Paul maybe was taking some drugs at the time. Jimmy Valiant was no more Charlie Brown than Dusty Rhodes was the Midnight Rider, Andre the Giant was the Giant Machine, or Hulk Hogan was Mr. America.

And look at all the wrestlers who stole from Jimmy. 1st. The Leg Drop. that was Jimmy Valiants ong before Hulk Hogan had it. Signature move my ass, Stolen move.
