    Amos is actually smart. He basically is a nuclear engineer/mechanic. He is also smart to know what he lacks emotionally and uses people to keep himself on the right path.

    I think Krisjen is in the wrong here. She's operating from a standpoint of fear rather than pragmatism. Her fear is well founded but she thinks she can control colonisation through the rings by banning it for anyone except powerful corporations and that simply won't work. I'm not 100% on Gao's side either, uncontrolled access _is_ dangerous, but restricting access isn't going to work when there are so many people wanting the risk and adventure over whatever hardship they've been in.

      Avasarala hasn't banned colonisation. She has postponed it until scientific exploration can prove it is safe. And not just safe for the people who go there, but safe in terms of not triggering the destruction of the entire solar system and humanity with it.

      Yeah, I'm kinda disheartened that Meg (and understandably, so many others) take Avisarala's side here. If I were one of the billions on Earth, unable to even get a job despite working hard for it, I would absolutely vote Nancy Gao. Colonies be damned, we need to focus on Earth and her people. Not the greed of its corporations and the bloodthirst of its militaries. That said, I get it. I love Avisarala too. And she really is the best option here. It's just that most voters on Earth wouldn't know it.

      @@writershard5065 they both have valid points, but I think Avasarala is operating out of a sensible abundance of caution. Having seen first-hand Earth's biosphere nearly destroyed by proto-Eros and then knowing that the entire solar system nearly got wiped out by the ring station, she's understandably concerned about blindly going out to former protomolecule worlds using their gates. It's not the worry of what may happen to the people who go, it is the worry that our entire species may be exterminated. Jobs and opportunities pale in comparison to a species-wide existential threat.

    I'm not sure if Amos is on the autism spectrum. I think he has shown in the past, that he is very aware of social cues, but sometimes he just doesn't give a f@ck about them. It is certainly possible though, but personally I think it has more to do with childhood trauma.
    However, he is aromantic (it has been confirmed by Ty Franck, one of the writers).

    The difficult part is that Murtry is partially right about everything so far (apart from jumping to conclusions and instantly killing belters).
    We saw that someone DID blow up the landing pad and killed 23 of his crew and the belters were the only ones on the planet as far as he knows.
    The guy he shot last episode DID indeed threaten him and his crew indirectly.
    And the guys they killed at the end of this episode actually were conspiring to take him out so he basically felt like he had to do something about it (even tho that something shouldn't have been instantly shooting them).
    So WHY he did what he did is understandable, just the HOW he did it is morally wrong and he probably did it because it's quick and easy and he just enjoys having a reason to do it.

    Amos doesn't care about the Belters, neither does he see himself as subverting Murtry's second in command, Wei.
    He's there, he's enjoying the experience of a largely uninhabited world, and he'll drink their booze, but he won't care if they die, and with Wei, they're drinking buddies and they're doin' it, but I don't think he sees it as any more than that.
    Wes Chatham, who plays Amos, took his notes on the character from The Churn, Amos' background short story to a psychologist and asked what sort of conditions would make someone like this, and used the information they told him to inform his character. He is probably somewhere on the spectrum, but he's also extremely calculating, observant and constantly on the lookout for danger given the awful past he's hinted at.

      Yeah, she seem to confuse Amos with Holden's sense of activism.

    • @MegMageReacts
      @MegMageReacts  2 місяці тому +2

      “He won’t care if they die” ??? Then why is he standing up to Murray? What about his friendship with Prax? To say he doesn’t care does a huge disservice to him.

    • @remliqa
      @remliqa 2 місяці тому

      @@MegMageReacts I would have replied 7 day also but unable to for obvious reason. Amos only cares for the life of people who are directly tied to him. Prax shared this at first because of his importance to the mission but later this evolved due to Amos past and his soft spot to children, again this tied to Amos' past and is personal to him. In short , Prax is a friend, not some random Belter . Right now Martsy is a threat to him , his team and the chance of theri mission success , just like Semi on Eros.
      Again, Amso isn''t Holden who is an antivist and genuine hero , nor is he like Alex or Naomi who have aspiration for a cause greater ten them, be it the idea of Mars or great Belter Nation, Amos is loyal to his tribe and tribe only. Right now that tribe is The Rocinante.

    amos isn't morally grey. he's a sociopath lol. he's just like murtry except murtry doesn't have a holden and naomi to guide him. amos would be just like murtry if naomi and holden died and amos had to lead and protect. he'd do it the only way how, at the end of a gun. he'd try to do what naomi and holden would do, but he wouldn't be very successful at it.

    • @AngeloBarovierSD

      Clinical diagnoses of sociopathy run in a gradient of severity. It’s not a binary assessment, nor is it an automatic indication of morality.
      TLDR: Morty and Amos are not just like one another.

    To be fair to Murtry, tha last guys he killed were Belter terrorist who was planning to attack and kill them. Sure he could have taken them into custody or something, but that doesn't change that these were violent terrorist Murthy just executed .
