Ditto that. I’ve seen that technique in videos but am not quite sure how to apply it…usually I just cut/shorten the new apex branch.
Agreed. I have two small Shimpaku that I am having a great deal of trouble learning how to style, and the apex is really quite confusing.
That tree is gonna look awesome when those pads fill up.

A magnificent juniper in all its glory. You really did a fine job on this, and not very often I watch a video clip twice in row. I don't think you neglected it at all, sometimes you gotta let them grow a bit wild to bring out the very best of it.

Any chance at some point you can describe "Shimpaku"? The foliage on this California Juniper look very similar to my 2 small Shimpaku. I am woindering if "Shimpaku" is a collective term for a type of scale juniper?
