  • I visited Auschwitz Birkenau Concentration Camp & Death Camp.
This in-depth tour reveals the harrowing conditions endured by prisoners, featuring real footage of the barracks where they slept, personal belongings left behind, and haunting images of camp members, some of whom survived just a few days.
As a travel blogger I take you on an emotional and educational tour behind the scenes through Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps.
You'll also gain a rare look inside a gas chamber and see the ovens used in these atrocities. This video is not just a historical exploration but a vital reminder of the past to ensure such horrific acts are never repeated.
Join me as we uncover the truths of these infamous camps and honour the memory of those who suffered.
Auschwitz, the notorious Nazi concentration and extermination camp, stands as a grim testament to the horrors of the Holocaust. Located in Poland, Auschwitz was operational from 1940 to 1945 and became the epicenter of the Nazi regime's genocide against Jews, along with other targeted groups such as Romani people, Poles, Soviet POWs, and disabled individuals. The complex consisted of Auschwitz I (the main camp), Auschwitz II-Birkenau (the extermination camp), and Auschwitz III-Monowitz (a labor camp).
Over 1.1 million people were murdered at Auschwitz, with gas chambers, forced labor, starvation, medical experiments, and brutal executions contributing to the unimaginable suffering. Liberation by Soviet forces in January 1945 unveiled the extent of the atrocities, leaving an indelible mark on history and human conscience. Auschwitz remains a powerful symbol of the dangers of unchecked hatred, intolerance, and totalitarianism.

When I was in 6 th grade, 1975, my class took a week long tour to the concentration camps. I was mortified that someone could do such atrocities. We lived in a small village out side of sembach air force base. They say the first german family you met are considered for grand parents. Every day they invited me to their house for tea and cookies. They were such lovely people. Their names were Maryann and Charley BUCHOLTZ. I REMEMBER THE DAY I SAW NUMBERS STAMPED ON THEIR ARMS. I HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT. WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT HER and Charley were the only survivors of their families. They were together from 13 years old. They had to have been in their 70's when I met them. They gave me a book called the diary of Ann frank. she told me that was pretty much how they survived. Heart breaking to think these things were done. I think of the often, that was 50 years ago. I wish I had more time with them. They were such strong people.

3:30 I went to AUSCHWITZ many years ago. I was fine until I got to the room full of small children's shoes. Then, I lost it.
      it.
You cannot imagine how many rooms full of items belonged to the prisoners who were murdered. It really puts in perspective the enormity of what was done by the Germans. The gold and silver taken in jewelry and fillings were unaccounted for as they were stolen to finance Hitler's madness.. I am very interested to know if the sign above the entrance, "work will set you free," was replaced since the original was stolen. Bless all the victims who died here. You will not be forgotten.

My friend, you are a star. I tripped over this video when looking for further info on WWII, as it is an interest of mine from the point of keeping the knowledge of what happened - both in Europe and the Pacific - alive.
Being that both my wife and I had grandparents and great-uncles that fought in that war, we grew up hearing about it first hand. The specifics were kept minimal because the relatives that fought were obviously still heavily traumatised, but the campaigns and the deeds were spoken of in a way that we've now pretty much lost for ever as each WWII survivor passes away. Speaking for myself, I also attended a primary school (in the mid-to-late 1970s) with a number of teachers who were veterans. Anzac Day was not so much a remembrance DAY as much as April itself was a remembrance MONTH, so WWII has always held a place in my heart for the people who fought so we could live the life we do.
Imagine running out on a field and aiming a rifle at a bloke who you are told is your enemy, yet - except for the uniform he wears - he could be someone you attended school with, or their father....and you are told you must fire your rifle at them "for the good of your country", yet you find it hard to be angry at them, but you fire your gun because you know that if you don't, he will fire his gun at you and YOU will die.... Yeah. No bloody way do I want to see the world do that to itself again.....yet it keeps happening. In smaller wars, sure, but wars are wars and people die. REAL people DIE.
I have always wanted to travel to the different significant locations to see for myself the true scale of the planned decimation / annihilation - but not just in Germany or by Hitler's (ultimate) hand. Old Stalin was quite the blood-thirsty dictator and although not as famously as Hitler, was responsible for the deaths of several million himself - both during the civil wars and with the different plans, edicts and his general sadistic nature. Don't get me wrong - I despise these two zealots and their fanatics, but again, seeing where it happened for one's self - as you did - adds a new dimension to the knowledge that is available.
I've always known what happened, when it happened and how. Through documentaries I learned how they got away with it for so long, hiding it from the rest of the world and the additional players in the mix.....some of which - under Himmler and Heydrich - took their autonomy to levels that I doubt even Hitler knew about. However, being in the place that it happened would add a whole new level of meaning.
It was difficult to be there - that was plainly obvious. My reaction would likely be very similar to yours and I would leave wanting to write to each and every political leader in every country to tell them to put their guns down and find a way through conflict that does not involve violence. Heck, I have that feeling right now and have done for years! The world is a frightening place, my friend, when you know that people are capable of barbarism of the extent of Auschwitz / Birkenau....and supposedly in the "modern age" of mid-20th century. We've come far since then in some ways, but in others we see that we have still such a long way to go....
    All the best.

If you are interested in such topics, also check out Witold Pilecki. I have never known a greater hero than him. He got to Auschwitz as a volunteer. For 3 years, he created a spy network in the camp and reported German crimes. He then escaped from the camp and gave reports to the Polish underground state. They passed on information about the Holocaust to the Allies. As we know, they ignored this message and did nothing. After Germany's capitulation, he continued fighting, this time against the Soviet Union. Captured by communists in the Polish People's Republic, on his last visit he said to his wife: "I can't live any longer. Auschwitz was a play." Which was supposed to refer to the torture methods used by the communists. Shortly afterwards, he was murdered with a shot to the back of the head for "betrayal of the homeland". This was the fate of most Polish patriots who did not decide to leave the country. To this day, it is not known where his body is. The communists wanted him to end up in the dustbin of history. 50 years of Russian occupation failed to erase it. His good name was restored in free Poland.

The expression on your face changed so much as you entered the various buildings and saw for yourself the clothing, shoes, suitcases and the photos of those that lost their lives through torture and death of these poor souls. I could feel your angst through your voice and facial expressions.

Thank you for doing this. I knew someone who was a survivor, he was a Polish political prisoner. He was at Auschwitz for 2 years. It had been his dream to have had his story told on the big screen. He told me the way he survived which he paid attention to when a person was going to die overnight and he would take either their wooden shoes or their leather boots depending on the time of year. Also they would give prisoners potatoes to eat. For some reason they would peel the potatoes before they ate them Marian Sczsepanski would gather up the peelings and eat that. He said there were more vitamins in the peelings. He was an atheist he was also a type 2 diabetic. His blood sugar was always over 400 and he would never listen to the doctors. Unfortunately he died of a diabetic coma. The Honolulu star has a great article on him even has the original when it was taken Rudolf Hoess released him probably thinking he might be a spy. He went on to help with the Warsaw uprising and many other revolts against the Nazis. He showed me pictures of a couple of places that you showed here including a whipping spot they left him there for 3 days after he got beat. Thank you for all you do

I am in tears watching this. My 15 year old son is currently learning about WWII and will be travelling to Poland and Germany with his school next year for his GCSE’s. It’s so incredibly important that the next generation and any future generations after that to understand further what a horrific impact the Nazi’s made to all of their victims and to ensure that it never happens again. He will have the opportunity to not only visit the concentration camps and other historical sites but he will also meet with a holocaust survivor. I have stressed to him how lucky he is and what an incredibly sacred experience it be to hear a survivors life story in their own words. I want him to absorb as much as he possibly can, so he can ensure that he can keep their voice alive for many years to come.
Multiple times during this video I had to pause it and wipe my tears. You have honestly connected to your audience thoughts and emotions with your delivery of this utterly solemn message. I was overcome with so many mixed emotions and I genuinely haven’t felt so saddened and completely overwhelmed as well as feeling hatred and anger towards the vile SS.
It’s so important to be willing to learn and grow from many past events in history, even when it can at times make us feel uncomfortable. We have to step out of our comfort zones to ensure that it will never be repeated again.

Great tour. To this day I think of the holocaust. I’m 64 yo & I can remember being in 5th grade and my social studies teacher read aloud The Diary of Anne Frank. At the end of the book I so distinctly remember how I felt when she read that Anne died in a concentration camp. I was a young girl & hadn’t heard about or studied WWII yet. I cannot begin to know the suffering of families being ripped apart as if the Jewish people were animals stuffed in train cars & had to relieve themselves right where they stood & not knowing where they were going or how long it would take. The horrific depravity of those guards, camps & having the ladies strip down in the freezing cold naked. It wasn’t enough that they were going to be killed, but they had to go down even more to ensure horror and embarrassment and stripping of their complete dignity before they’re going to be killed. and the beatings they endured on the beating racks. I’m not Jewish but, I could not believe humanity could sink so low and this never leaves my mind all these years later. Thank you again for sharing your work with us!

We celebrated Hanukah one year. I also got to meet someone who survived the holocaust, at one of the church meeting things. He had his numbers still. It’s such a sad and horrible thing that these people went through. I hope that their souls are at rest. And that history does not repeat itself.

You did such an informative video and every student in high school should be made to see it. It is very educational and heartbreaking but it needs to be seen, I think all aspects of history should be taught - the good, the bad and the ugly. No sugar-coating or glossing over of the subject matter should be done. It is so sad and it makes me mad about how cruel people can be and it has not changed. Fantastic Job.

Thank you for going to Auschwits-Birkenau to educate yourself and your followers. I lost half my family due to the second WW. 23 members, oldest was 43, youngest where just 3 months old, a twin. When they arrived at Sobibor, which is another death camp, most of them lived no longer than a few hours. The twins where send to Mengele, what happened to them is clear they died, but of what kind of treatment is unsure. The adults and young adults where all murdered. The only person of this family surviving, was my Jewish grandmother, her Catholic husband, one aunt and my mother. They survived in hiding, my grandfather was part of the Dutch Resistance. Thank you for treating this subject with utmost respect.

Having spent many years, reading all about the horrors of the Holocaust, and remembering newspapers that my late Mother had saved from WW2, from when she was only just a teenager but realised the importance of those reports. Listening to the emotion in your voice broke me, yet again. How anyone can suggest this isn't true or real defies all logic. Thank you for going and seeing the truth. @@BigDsDaily You're welcome. Where I grew up there was a family who'd lost all their overseas relations in one or other of the lesser known death camps - did you know there were over 30 concentration/death camps in total, including at least one on British territory, Alderney, one of the Channel Islands? This family, later on when I was about 10, had an elderly friend come and live with them as he could no longer care for himself - and this man was a survivor of Dachau camp, with a tattoo on his inner arm. He never spoke of his time there, but his eyes betrayed the pain he'd suffered and the horror he'd witnessed. Despite it all, he was gentle, kind and gave the best hugs.
