Thank you for sharing your video, great job catching truly impressive specimens. We have been chasing after them, but so far no luck catching anything over two pounds. After seeing your video we are inspired to go after them again.
Enjoyed the video.....I grew up in England in the 70's...the perch we used to catch were all tiny....heard that there had been some disease that wiped alot of them out and stunted the growth back then.....great fun as a kid though...caught my biggest of about pound and a half.... whilst trying to catch carp on the surface....I was fishing a huge lobworm a foot under a float......I live in Canada now...no perch here ....keep up the good work!!
Thanks for the kind comments and for taking the time to post, glad you enjoyed it! Haha... I think many anglers grew up catching small Perch, they normally seem to make an appearance in small streams and lakes. Hope your fishing in Canada is going well and that you're catching a few :-) Tight lines, cheers Chris.
from all the videos on here i really enjoy watching yours. i will tell you why. you dont sit under top end gear nor do you sit and talk about top end gear. you represent the average angler. i praise you for that. majority of videos these days focus on sales as oppose to fun and love of this beautiful sport. thank you.
Thanks for the kind comments and for taking the time to post them, they're really appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the video and the channel. Hope your fishing is going well, cheers Chris.
made up for you.. always nice to come away from the bank having achieved a P.B, for any species really, the biggest perch I've caught, a tad over 2lbs, was in Clatteringshaws loch, in the Galloway forest. also today, I've watched you fishing through the ice on another vid, and as always , very enjoyable ..by the way, I'm after a 4 1/2 lb Tench!!!!!!!! thats my present ambition, take care, keep em coming..Tez.G, North Wales.
I had a 1lb 12oz perch a good few years back in a fen drain just on 4lb line straight through to a size 16 baited with small eisenia worm, knew it was a good fish, was a surprise it was as big
Nice, really nice some lovely Perch there. I'm hoping to find some fisheries near me that have good Perch in. Congrats on smashing your PB in this video not once but twice.
gratz on ur PB! a little tip to get the backfin up easy . just press outside of the gills of the fish on both sides and he/she will bring it right up! :)
Great video, chaps. Just discovered your videos on here. Really enjoying them. Is that a TXL specialist float rod? What length? The link just says Greys Specialist. I'm interested as thinking about getting one for perch fishing as well as general commercial carping on waggled etc. What other type of fishing do you use it for? Thanks.
First of all thanks for the kind comments, glad you are enjoying the video's! :-) I believe the rods Steve was using (I think they were the TX) have now been discontinued, I think they've been replaced by the TXL Specialist Twin Tip or TXL Specimen. We use them for all specimen fishing really, they make excellent Tench and Bream rods - the 1.25lb test curve. Hope that helps a little. Cheers Chris.
Hi steve Quick question mate. How are you accurately casting to the same spot every time on the float rod? Have you marked the line or just guessing? I'm having no luck ledgering for perch so going to swith to the float rod. Cheers
I am moving to Preston area from Northern Michigan.I am looking forward to fishing the canals for them and Zander using crank baits on light tackle. I don't see many people doing that in the videos I have researched. I also like to fish slip floats. A 2+ lb fish on light gear is a lot of fun.
+David Mergatroid From Michigan to Preston? That's some change.... if you're to fish on the Lancaster canal(which goes from Preston to just near Kendal) you'd be better fishing the spots in the countryside rather than near the city centre as the parts near the city centre are full of rubbish and pollution. There are also many lakes like the one on this video that you can fish on within a 20 mile radius of Preston, so you will be spoilt for choice. I don't live far from Preston so if you need any info on places to go then give me a shout. As for Zander, you won't catch any near this way and will have to visit the midlands or south of the country, but the canal near Preston is full of pike(so make sure to use a wire trace if jigging incase you hook one of these) and perch.
Hello from across the Pond! I fish for perch in Lake Erie, and some of those JP get REALLY jumbo. Which is nice, since it's a lovely fish to have with chips. It doesn't take a lot to make a meal. Anyway, some techniques and strategies work no matter where you live; the right bait, the right time, and patience to get that elusive fish. I'm really enjoying your videos and looking forward to perusing more of your channel :-)
Hi Samantha Maetz nice to hear from you, from so far away!! Thanks for the kind comments and glad you are enjoying the video's! :-) Hope your fishing is going well and that you are catching a few!!! Tight lines, cheers Chris.
Saw a kid catch a 4lb Perch once on carp gear fishing with boilies. Couldn't believe my eyes, worst thing was he was only about 10 years old so when I told him it was a fish of a lifetime he just looked at me blankly, prob thinking it was tiny compared to the carp he was catching.
Cheers +dgriffy04 glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment. Andy is a very nice chap indeed! Hope your fishing is going well, tight lines, cheers Chris.
Great vid. I fished the same lake, same swim, same method this weekend ... all these years later, and didn’t have a so much as a bite. The weed in there now is shocking. Every reel in drags an armful of weed in. Such a shame as the perch are likely still there. Any ideas how to fish the weed?
Thats a shame David! We haven't fished there for years, so it might be that the perch aren't there anymore. Perhaps try popping a worm off the bottom, small live bait or even some lures and jigs and cover as much water as you can?
Russell Stacey thanks, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! Haha... I know what you mean, won't be too far away now and will be here before we know it! :-)
@@FromTheWatersEdgeTV You probably won't believe this, but in 2011 I had a 5lb 1oz perch from a quarry pit near me. ( Can't give the location ) I put the photo on Facebook and someone from Angling Times contacted me so it was in there. Not long after my friend had a 4lb 2oz when he was fishing a small dog biscuit on a feeder set up! I've had 3lb, 4lb and 4lb 8oz perch from there too. Biggest this year is a 3lb and had 2lb and 2lb 8oz recently.
Thanks Sam James glad you enjoyed the video! :-) The stop knot is nothing to do with casting distance, it's used as the water is so deep. It'd be hard to cast a conventional float set up if you wanted to fish on the bottom at 13ft. The float would be set at longer than the rod, you see.
I understand haha, I was hinting at how Steve said cashing distance and how he said snop dot hehe, I'd love to catch a perch of that size so I'm gonna try for one
congrats on your pb!!!!! i went for perch yesterday and to my surprise i caught a 3 lbs barbel on red maggot!!! it was about two feet from my peg under the shade of an overhanging tree!!!!!
Great video mate, thank you for posting. Lovely fish, sadly a goal I will never achieve due to only trout fishing now but fantastic to see you catching them!
Thanks +johnwelander glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to comment! The Perch are an impressive fish, even more so when they get big! Hope your Trout fishing has been going well, tight lines, cheers Chris.

Nice video mate well done. Not my kind of fishing as I'm a lure man but got to love a nice perch, awesome creatures. Congrat's on a super pb. Check out my videos for more big perch action.
Thanks River Piker glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment! I'll be sure to head over to your channel and to watch your videos. Hope your fishing is going well. Cheers Chris.
Hi there, great videos, went through a couple last week as we went as a family for a fish for our fathers year anniversary since he passed away. I had to learn a few knots and so on! Lost two perch at the weekend, I'm no pro, but what causes that? I was using a wide gape hook size 12 - rod bent over bringing it in and then slips off. Could it be the hook? Then the third time the line was bitten clean just above the hook. No pro as I said just love the buzz of it all. What is a good hook for the pleasure fisherman who dreams big! Thanks J
Hi Jonathan Bacon it could be the hook, however sometimes it just happens! It's just part of fishing :-) If the line was bitten off, then that could have been a Pike! Sometimes there'll grab your smaller fish on the way in! Hook wise it depends what you are fishing for, there's so many different makes and models on the market!

Hi Dan, luckily the lake we fished wasn't too snaggy, so it was ok. If it was snaggy I guess you could use a small lead or perhaps even a nice streamlined olivette. Cheers
They weren't cooked, just normal prawns from a supermarket. Certainly catch Perch and normally avoid a few nuisance species that you'd pick up if you were using maggots and worms etc
Thank you for sharing your video, great job catching truly impressive specimens. We have been chasing after them, but so far no luck catching anything over two pounds. After seeing your video we are inspired to go after them again.

Hiya. Where abouts was you fishing please :)
It was Shallowbrook lakes in Norfolk Carla.
Nice fish get the frying pan ready nothing like fresh perch here in usa those would be monsters...
Cheers mate, we don't each the fish over in the UK, just fish for them for sport. :-) Cheers Chris.
Your gonna get snagged with all those weights
Hi Dan, luckily the lake we fished wasn't too snaggy, so it was ok. If it was snaggy I guess you could use a small lead or perhaps even a nice streamlined olivette. Cheers
I caught a 3lb er on sweet corn during a match
Nice one Adam, thats a clonker! On sweetcorn too...! :-O
Caught a 4 pound 2oz perch
Nice one +tyler wilde :-)

Geeez, wish our reddies got that big!!
Haha! :-)
Dead borin
Using cooked prawns? Interesting....
They weren't cooked, just normal prawns from a supermarket. Certainly catch Perch and normally avoid a few nuisance species that you'd pick up if you were using maggots and worms etc
catching a dead fisch?? lol
What? Stick to goal keeping mate. 👍😅😅
snop dot
Stop not? Drop Shot? Or Snop Dot?
Snot Drop?
