    Pike Fishing With Deadbaits - Rigs, Tips & Tactics
    For the latest episode we try something a little different, as we head out in search of Pike. Now what Steve knows about Pike fishing can be written on the back of a postage stamp, so we teamed up with From The Waters Edge regular, good friend and Piking pirate Jack Mills.
    Heading out afloat on Jack's own boat, we spend the day picking his brains about all things Pike related and of course try to catch few fish along the way.
    At this time of year Pike fishing with static deadbaits is one of the most popular ways to target these hard fighting predators, so it seemed a good place to start.
    To find out exactly how we got on and to see if we managed to land a fish or two, you can check out the latest episode from the waters edge.
    As usual we hope you enjoy it and any comments and feedback are very much appreciated.
    Tight Lines

    I'm a French Fisherman and i really appreciate the modern approach of pike fishing in the Uk. You guys are brilliant . Here in France not so many people know how to fish with dead baits for pikes , even less with Sardines or Mackerels .. And the most amazing feat i have seen of a French fisherman is catching Pikes of 20 inches round the neck , in shallow waters , with a line ending by a thin wire in the shape of a fox snare , and attached to an old bamboo stick !!

    My personal favourite deadbait is lamprey... tough skinned & low cross-section for casting & very bloody... I also usually inject with oil too.
    Re. the rig... I almost always pop up my baits as I get a much more positive take & am not bothered by crayfish.
    A 2oz running lead & a 12" trace... I use the plastic ball from a guinness can as a float... 😎👍☘🍺
    Mick Brown was my video mentor ... 😏
    PB is 28lbs.. 🤗

    Hi Guys, mint video, really enjoyed watching it, especially Jacks, set up, different to mine, will definitely be trying out the float. Wondered if you had any tips on night fishing for Pike? Its really popular this time of year and we get a lot of success during the day using the dead bait same as you guys but is there anything you would recommend to do differently at night? I've watched a few videos of a guy night fishing for pike in December successfully but he's pretty useless at telling you what he's doing to catch them. Cheers in advance and once again, great video!

    Having fished for decades and thinking of hiring a boat on the broads do they have a canopy and if not what happens if it rains and the boat fills with water? If it pours first thing for example would it then be a case of having to spend the rest of the day in wellies on a wet bottom boat?

    • @FromTheWatersEdgeTV
      @FromTheWatersEdgeTV  Рік тому

      I'm not too sure Amy, some do, some don't. Normally you just have to bail them out if it rains that hard.

    Nice vid, subscribed! Quick one if you have a sec, I'm new to dead baiting, I went yesterday, and I used that egg weight that you've used but I couldn't use it properly as the braid was too thick to go through that little rubber bit that connects on to the top of the weight. I bodged it in the end - but how do you guys do it? To me it looks like you could only get mono or trace through the weight. But you have your main braided line, going through the weight and then tied to a swivel - from there you have your wire trace. What am I doing wrong?! The braid parts and wont go through. Cheers.

    • @FromTheWatersEdgeTV
      @FromTheWatersEdgeTV  8 років тому

      Cheers +winchuni22 glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm not 100% sure, but I'd guess its because you aren't getting a clean enough cut on your braid, as it should pass through quite easily, unless you are using 100lb+ braid! If you don't get a clean cut on it when you try and thread it through the fibres on the braid will get caught on the wall of the tubing on the egg sinker. If you use some braid scissors it should do the trick, or perhaps try threading it with an Diamond Eye Elastic Threader (what match anglers use to thread there pole elastic). I think both those things should help! Cheers Chris.

    • @winchuni22
      @winchuni22 8 років тому

      Hi Chris, thanks for the reply. I'll have a go with the elastic threader. I did cut the braid with ESG braid scissors cleanly but the hole is too small and the braid then frays. The top of the weight bit is probably less than a mill, mill tops. Strange. Braid I am using is a bit thick, but its only 28lbs. Oh well!

    What kind of fish is the dead bite ? From sea or from rivers?
    And which is the name of the fish deadbait?

    • @FromTheWatersEdgeTV
      @FromTheWatersEdgeTV  8 років тому

      A deadbait is just the name for any dead fish that you'd use for bait. We use both freshwater and saltwater deadbaits for Pike. Things like Mackerel, Hearring etc from saltwater and Roach and Skimmers from freshwater.
