Amahoro taking a shower, Zoo Antwerp 13 Aug 2020

Only eastern lowland gorilla outside of Africa. She lives with a family of western lowland gorillas. They also have a nice outside area with grass. They can choose where they want to be about 23 hours a day.

She's been using this 'stool' for ages. Now it was a shower stool, most of the time it's a drinking stool ;-)

Amahoro will stay single forever. She does mate with Matadi when she has her stop week (she's on birth control). Amahoro is the only eastern lowland gorilla outside of Africa. The other 2 females (both having kids with Matadi now) are western lowland gorillas.

Isn't she a Grauer's gorilla, they are a sub species close to extinction. The video Saving Baby Lulingu tells the story of them.

Like the subtitle says: she's an eastern lowland gorilla yes (aka grauer gorilla). Of the 4 species they're not as close to extinction as two other species. The cross river gorillas (an western gorilla) are the most endangered; only 250 to 300 left in the wild. Then there are the mountain gorillas (an eastern gorilla); only appr. 1,004 of them left in the wild. Then you have the grauer aka eastern lowland gorilla (the other eastern gorilla); there are around 3,800 left in the wild. The western lowland gorilla (the other western gorilla) is the least endangered, but still endangered! There are appr. 361,900 left in the wild.
