When she said before and after, i misunderstood it to mean that she would show us the effectiveness after the prong collar is removed. I have never seen how this has affected a dog's behavior after the collar is removed. Anyone have any answers to this? Thanks!
Its worth a shot... My bully is a tough girl. She can run into corner of cabinets head first playing with her toys and it wont even faze her. I think she can take a little prong collar Discomfort training.. Currently She can pull quite well at 14weeks/ 30lbs. It wont be any fun when shes 12-18months and 80lbs.
My dog Fletcher was on a prong collar before we got him, and every second of his life he lived in never-ending fear. The collar was kept on him all day and night, and he was pinched if he ever did a single thing imperfectly. He was only obedient because he knew he would get pinched for even the smallest mistake. Once we got him and took the collar off, he became a sweet, lovable dog who knew we'd always love him no matter what he did.
Well the dogs previous owners were not using it correctly. They are not meant to be kept on. Only used for walks or taking them outside for bathroom breaks. If uses appropriately and correctly they are safe. When left on all the time, it will rub the skin, dig into the skin and cause sores, and even behavior issues like you said when left on. That is why it is a training tool. Not a fashion statement. Some people are so cruel.
Soooo..... Are people training their dogs because they want the dogs to be extensions of their selves? Or because they want their dogs to be able to function well with others?
So you havent actually taught the dog anything apart from not being able to pull when that collar is on. Expecting a dog to be in heel position on walks, unless they're very short is just cruel.
Leo Tully i have two very well behaved shepherd husky mixes and havent needed to use prong collars on either. Ive seen a few trainers who understand how to train with prong/ecollars and not fuck up the relationship with the dog or cause all kinds of reactivity issues. This is not one of them. If the dog has to wear a prong collar for the rest of its life, it has learned nothing and is only doing something to avoid discomfort, not to please you. Moreover, large dogs like bully breeds can become used to these collars and will pull just as hard with them on. The trainer in this video and you are the idiots who try to give people easy fixes and produce dangerous, reactive dogs. Prong collars shouldnt be used on many extra large breeds as they are much more sensitive to punishment. It isnt remotely necessary for achieving strict discipline and definitely shouldnt be used by the average lazy dog owner who doesnt know what they're doing.
Leo Tully prong collars are more effective and faster because it causes a force or a slight pain. which the dog does not like. i dont like prong collars cause it doesnt create a relationship with u or ur dog. your just showing ur dog that if u go too far u will feel pain or a pinch instead of, if you go too far you are not pleasing me and will not get my affection through out the walk if you keep doing this, that is what you want from your dog, you want your dog to respect you only, not to respect a prong collar, the dog is only walking next to you cause of the prong collar and is not walking next to you because it respects you and loves you, the dog just doesnt want to get hurt. think about this, your parents pinch you everytime you walk too far from them as a kid, you only stay with them cause you dont want to get hurt. but u see another kid getting a reward, like candy, everytime they stay by their parents, and if they go too far the parents will say, " your not getting your reward if you keep doing that." the kid u see has a better relationship with their parents unlike you because ur just doing what ur parents want because you dont want to get hurt while the other kid is building a strong bond between parents while knowing that going too far can be dangerous and that you are doing something good by walking close to ur parents( reward). if i were u id pick the child who gets no pinches if they walk too far.
Joy Kata I agree that prong collars are way over used and most of the time absolutely not necessary but I think the example you used with the parents and the child should show us that the most important thing in raising a child and/or training a dog is balance and fairness. If you raise your child in the way you are proposing you will most likely end up with a bit of a brat on your hands, not always, but often. I can say that from personal experience. But if you raise a child with only punishment you will also end up with an unbalanced person who thinks the world is against them. Being a parent and/or a dog owner is not all about receiving the dogs/child's love and making them love you as much as possible (that would be extremely selfish), it should be about helping create a happy, balanced and fulfilled life for that dog/child. Sometimes this takes correcting the dog or child. I've been and elementary teacher for many years and work at a shelter rehabilitating dogs and I can say from personal experience that no two kids or dogs are the same. Some need more praise or rewards and some need more direction and corrections. If a prong collar needs to be used after trying other methods in order for that dog to go on to live a happy, healthy life with a home and love instead of spending the rest of its life on a cold shelter floor I think we can all agree that's a pretty great trade-off. I agree that many people are just lazy dog owners and trainers though and I'm almost positive that I could have absolutely trained this dog to walk nicely on a leash without a prong collar. But I think in times like these we should be careful about saying one thing or the other is always and completely wrong with no place in the world. Just my 2 cents...
you should stop using prong collars. they don't teach them anything except that walks are not fun. i use genital leads with training dogs, they are not painful at all.
RexxyKitty O3O My dog has a great time during walks, wearing a prong collar. He's a huge and very strong pitbull. Unfortunately people like you don't understand the need of such collars for our potentially dangerous animals. Have you ever rode a horse? If so, did you notice that piece of steal that is in the horse's mouth (the bit)? That is to keep the horse (another potentially dangerous animal) under control. Responsible dog owners understand the difference between alpha and beta. Alpha dogs always bite the necks of beta dogs when the beta isn't acting properly. Dogs are not supposed to be masters over man.
Yeah but the dog isn't supposed to pull in the first place. If the dog is pulling and there's no consequence for it pulling he/she is going to think its fine to pull on the leash when the reality is they're not supposed to pull on the leash. That's why you use these collars ( or something better) to let them know they're not supposed to pull. and of course when they don't pull, give them praise and treats so they know what they're doing is good.
TLDR: The physics of prong collars proves they are a source of pain hence why they work. Read on to see more. What is the difference between a normal collar and a prong collar? Regular collar is flat so it distributes force over a larger surface area reducing the apparent force of a tug making it more comfortable thereby causing a dog to be more likely to pull because the negative of pulling is reduced by the mechanical disadvantage of a conventional collar. Prong collars are designed with points instead of a flat surface in contact with the dog's neck. This increases force on the dogs neck by focusing any pull into tiny points which will press into the dogs neck creating the desired behavior. This will increase mechanical advantage of the user allowing for easy corrections. Which is good right? Yes and no. If the goal is to control the dog by any means necessary yes this product is effective and powerful. If the goal is to train your dog in a humane manner without pain it is completely useless. Reason being a small tug on this collar as demonstrated in your video will amplify the force placed on the Dog's neck causing discomfort and compliance just like a vigorous tug on a conventional collar would in the same scenario. People say that a prong collar is useless I say not quite. But a user of a prong collar cannot defend their position by saying it doesn't cause pain or that it isn't a patch or a quick fix. Because it is using pain to create a desired behavior and it is shown time and again pain is not a motivator. In summary: A patch can be used to save a sinking ship but don't expect one to make a boat seaworthy.
rat488 flat collars (regular) can kill dogs by crushing their windpipe which i have had happened and it is horrifying to watch. Prongs are overall safer.
The difference is that the prong collar will pinch the skin. Not enough to hurt the dog in a way that will permanently cause damage. Have you ever given a dogg a vaccine shot on their neck? That skin is tough, you have to force the needle through. Those prongs arent doing any lasting damage unless left on permanently which isnt what they are used for. A flat collar or choker chain will squeeze the neck and collapse the trachea. While many dogs can easily be trained on a leash, not all can. If someone were to adopt a dog from a kill shelter and they could not get their dog to stop pulling I would much rather them get a prong then send the dog back.
@@Zireling I agree with everything exept that dog skin is thinner than human skin, I just dont want people to get a false sense for dog skin, but yea a few corrections here and there with a prong collar will not penetrate or cause lasting damage, but no one should be dragging with a prong collar, ive seen this before
Also Yes sometimes you do need to disipline with a little discomfort, police officers have pain complianace, kids now a days need to be smacked in the booty they are too wild and disrespectfull, imagine if cops asked criminals to comply niceley hahahaha its simple behave bad get a correction like a speeding ticket, be good and lawfully and you are rewarded with an uneventfull drive home
This was REALLY REALLY helpful for seeing the effectiveness on a small dog. I'm definitely going to get this collar TODAY!

Lol if I were you hun I’d just turn comments off in prong related videos... all these drop kicks with no idea give me a fucking headache 🙄
I'm new to your channel. Really helpful video. How would you describe your training style. Thanks in advance.

Prong collars are only really meant for walks. I mean, they're less dangerous than a dog slipping out and getting run over or mauled.

You're stupid. Prong collars are a very effective training tool. Idiot like you end up with dead or dumb dogs.

Jill Baffone lol yea i wasnt sure how to word it haha.
you should stop using prong collars. they don't teach them anything except that walks are not fun. i use genital leads with training dogs, they are not painful at all.
wow, that must be a really long genital lead...
sorry, I had to...
sorry i usually love jokes and witty comebacks but i simply don't get this one
i don't mean to be rude its just that walks are supposed to be fun

My dog loves walks and has a hard time containing his excitement when he see the prong collar. Idk what youre talking about
He isn't pulling because it hurts him,he has no choice!

Dilraj Shergill no ot digs into their neck
Well ofcourse... When you were a kid you didn't left the classroom not because it was "your desition" but because you were force not to.
ThunderTheTherian TTT it doesnt dig into the neck
ThunderTheTherian TTT I put a prong around my neck and it does not hurt what’s so ever.
