I’ve had most of my smaller kitchen appliances for over 20 years (I’m turning 40 this december): my blender, toaster, electric wisk etc. Also our microwave. I love reading and buy a lot because I like to read books my library don’t have. I did put a Kindle on my wishlist for my birthday. I do prefer ”real” books but I guess I can have the best of both worlds 😊
I realized the other day that my sleeping bag I pulled out for my son’s scout camp out was 20 years old. I am only in my early 30s so was surprised when I realized I have had it longer than I lived without it.
Stainless steel pots and pans, JA Henkels knife block, 100 piece china set... all gifted for my wedding... 13 years ago! The first two are used on a daily basis. The china gets used frequently though not daily.
@@catharinabra A word of caution: For a while my husband and I both had kindles and stopped buying real books. The research shows that you do not absorb what you read on a device the same way, or as well, as you absorb from a hard copy book (absolutely disturbing that tablets are being used in schools instead of textbooks now). Not everything needs to be "minimalist." It is better for children's literacy too when there are a variety of actual books available for their little hands to pick up and explore.
I have a hoodie that's about 28 years old. I've tried to replace it but can't find anything it's equal. And I have a ribbon plant that's 12 years old. For me that's a small miracle. That plant you have propagated from a 100-year-old family original is so very cool.
I have a basic dark green Land's End cashmere cardigan I purchased around the year 2000, that I still wear. It was in storage for some period of time, but it's still in great condition, and it's perfect in the winter. Most of my clothes last longer than expected. At home, I wear my old/not-to-be-seen-outside Tshirts and bottoms, which keeps all my other clothes nice for a long time. I had a pair of jeans for 20 years that got a lot of usage; I lost a bunch of weight and donated those jeans. Donated a LOT of clothes in the last 20 months as I lost 6 sizes! I have a Vitamix I purchased in 1994 (I need to sell it, since I replaced it with a newer model). I've had my Instant Pot for 9 years, cookware for 2 decades, plates I purchased in 1994. So many things!
Love all of these! Believe it or not my oldest possession that I still use often is a fleece robe my grandmother bought me when I was 9 years old. She got a super large size that dragged on the floor when I was a lot younger but fit perfectly as I grew up. She’s been gone now but I have so many memories of wearing it as a child on a sick day from school to most recently having it on when I found out I was pregnant 🥲 I’ve had it for over 25 years and it’s basically an heirloom at this point!
Thank you so much for this, Ashley! What a mindset shift! I've always gone with cheap and multiple. The idea of, even for gifts, using our money for things which won't need replacing means better things for everyone and no one has to spend more time or money shopping! I can only imagine what I could do with the money we save from not continually shopping and replacing cheap stuff! This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear! And how cool about your husband's art--spectacular!
Didn't know u were still in your twenties.... 💚u have loving husband, a kid , a successful UA-cam career... U have achieved so much.... 💚 Im 20 and I hope by the time I am your age, I will be successful in life and a yt career.
I LOVED this video Ashlynne! One of my favorite items that I own is my $6.99 old sewing cabinet that I thrifted when I moved into my own home. It serves as my nightstand. It smells old. Has water stains. The cutest rattan front. I can just imagine all of the sewing projects that it has seen. I'm keeping it forever and just so in love with it!
What a beautiful video Ashlynne! I’m amazed that you have such incredibly beautiful pieces with a long life already at such a young age, and Christopher’s artwork is incredible! At twice your age and now a retired teacher, I have a treasure box of family memories and teaching mementos. I also have photo albums going back to great grandparents ❤ although that pic of you in red with the ladybug umbrella is priceless! I also have an embossed bible given to me from my Mother in love on my wedding day. I’m not a great chef, but I have some long standing items and sentimental things there too. My dad and my husband were carpenters at heart so I have some precious pieces from them. I could go on and on…❤😊
Not a minimalist yet ☺️ but decluttering and trying to get there 🍀🫶🏼 There are so many things I’ve owned for years! From an at least 25 y.o jeans jacket that my 22 y.o daughter now wears, to furniture, pans, cutlery, books and a fan that still works since I was in college about 30 yrs ago ☺️. I know the microwave from college still works bc it’s been passed on by a friend 😂
I have my dad’s Bulova watch and his Penn St ring. These will always be near and dear to me. Loved this video so much. Can’t believe you’re so young. Wow
That tradescantia is very nice and a variety I haven't seen. I believe it may be a tradescantia fluminensis. I have a variegated one but yours is a nice dark green with the characteristic beautiful purple undersides. Houseplants make great and inexpensive gifts for people, friends and co-workers. You can root them in cute containers like soda cans with the tops removed with one of those special can openers that leaves a blunt edge. Or soup cans, yogurt cups etc. Or you can get inexpensive small pots at the dollar tree. One of my favorite things to gift others.
For shoes, I have shoes from Adelisa & Co that I've had for years and years. I recently added a Nisolo pair of boots and flats and a pair of Thursday boots. I do have some leather boots that I've had for about 10 years, but the insides are disintegrating 😅 I do have a coat that I've had for 20 years now, and still looks new because I only wear it in the snow (which is not frequent here!).
Books, a strand of imitation pearls - 36" long, a print of a lighthouse, which I found out was one of my favorites on the oregon coast, several of my pots & pans, my favorite dishes in the kitchen.
absolutely keeping quality, dorable and versetile in different categories and memories ❤ ya books to re read too like poetry, gifted, few stones and a cristal.
My stainless set of pots and pans, the wood shelf my Grandpa made, pearl necklace from my wedding, family photos, and a pink dress I bought at Filene's in Poughkeepsie. Kathy B. P. S. I'm 65 and married for 31 years. My baby doll wearing my going home from the hospital clothes and a silver cup and old-style mini telephone.
I love the wood chest that Christopher made for you. I believe they have “no slam”hinges or something of that nature, that you can install so that there’s no chance of it closing down on Oliver one day.
I've had my KitchenAid stand mixer and the stainless steel measuring cups I got at Costco for more then 20 years. There's a stuffed leopard that I've had since I was a baby so over 50 years, a stool my grandfather made for me that's probably in the 45 to 50 year mark as well. And, the copy of Anne Frank's diary my mom bought me when I was 9 and we were visited the secret annex.
My favorite quality purchase is my Leaf razor. Best razor I’ve ever owned. And it’s beautiful, I got the gold chrome version and anyone who sees it wants one. Also so much easier for to use than a traditional safety razor, especially as a woman. I know because I used one for years before Leaf had a kickstarter, but it’s just as good for the planet. I love that it’s a lifetime purchase, and they will repair or replace it if it ever breaks. It’s completely plastic free, and you can use traditional double edged razor blades from any brand. I can buy 200 blades for the price of four disposable razor heads. They don’t force you into a subscription just to use their product. I recently bought their micro blading tool as well. It uses the same blades I already buy for my razor. I’m not affiliated with them in any way. I just think more women should buy it and have one quality razor for the rest of their lives.
question: how do you store stuffies (stuffed animals)? i have so many from my childhood that are hard to part with but i want a good place to store them.
Stuffed animals ((will)) break down and deteriorate over time. They retain odors, lose their shape, & lose their fabrication (become thread bare). It is best to let them go.
I kept a plastic storage tote bin of all of my childhood toys (Littlest pet shops, polly pockets, a couple high school musical Barbies, a couple dolls, and all of my webkinz) so nostalgic. they are all doing just fine in that bin! try to fit the most important ones to you all in one large bin! they will be protected in there. the coolest part is I am now married, pregnant with our first and she is a little girl! so happy that I kept that stuff. she is going to receive those things as it’s age appropriate and I feel like she will think it’s cool that they used to be her mom’s toys! lol at least that’s my hope.
I have a ruby cup from my grandma from 1904. I am named after her and it has Mary and 1904 engraved on it. She got it as a young girl at The World’s Fair. It’s precious to me.
Oh that’s true! I realized after this, they were plenty of other things that I’ve had for years that I didn’t mention too. Our iron, our vacuum, our cups and pans to name a few
Arent they confusing minimalist with conservative? Speaking for myself, I am not a minimalist but I do conserve some when needed to. Doesnt seem right to keep showing decluttering videos every day. That is more of a seasonal thing to do.
I'm so excited for Oliver that his dad is so talented and that you are displayed his artwork! My dad plays the guitar and used to paint; we had his paintings all over the living room and entryway, and my favourite memories despite our troubled relationship is listening to him play the guitar. He'd play on the couch and I'd sit there and watch him. Lots of wonderful memories coming up for Oliver!! As for items I've had for years, the most used is definitively my Kanken backpack. It has been with me for 10 years and counting, to university, the USA, Japan, all over Europe! I also wear my mother's old nightshirts from when she was pregnant with my sister back in 1985, and she also kindly gave me a wooden chest of drawers that she received from her mother when she first had my sister 39 years ago. It currently sits in my entryway and holds our tote bags, my running gear and beanies and scarves. Sentimental items are the best!
What is something that you’ve owned for YEARS? ✨
Planting.

oh my gosh, the paintings!!! I didn’t know Christopher painted them! he is incredibly talented!

Wow Christopher is so Talented- please let him know how beautiful and stunning his work is! Does he ever sell any of his work?
I always thought the Eiffel Tower was a photo!! 😮 Christopher is super tallented!! ❤

Aww that’s so sweet!! 🥹🥰
This was such a refreshing take on minimalism! I love how you focus on keeping things intentional and practical. 🥰

Wow!!! Chris's artwork is stunning!! What a beautiful home you both have created
My grandmother gave me my kitchen aid 10 years ago and my husband and I bought our vitamix blender about 9 years ago. Both still work amazingly!❤
Christopher is very talented. Beautiful art!!

"Didn't know you were still in your twenties"
Tell her she looks old without telling her she looks old. 🙃
@hugolias736 she don't look old... But to hear she was in 20s was a shock coz she has achieved so much

love your art pieces - especially the Eiffel tower and the sailing ship, so beautiful
New study showed black plastic utensils were made with banned toxic substances. May want to check on that favorite spatula.
I have my dad’s Bulova watch and his Penn St ring. These will always be near and dear to me. Loved this video so much. Can’t believe you’re so young. Wow
Love this! How do you wash/take care of your sweaters/clothing items that they last that long? Thank you very much.
Christopher is so talented!!! And the box he made is STILL beautiful! As a kid I stored my stuffed animal is a similar box, so just an idea :)
i love this video! i started watching your videos in 2020 and it has been so helpful on my minimalism journey! thank you, Ashlynne!
Oh that's so awesome!
Personal things from your spouse are big treasures in your life. I have a side table that my mum had when I was growing up ❤
Absolutely beautiful video! Thank you Ashlynne! I have owned similar items and your video reminded me i needed new salad aerving spoons :)
Oh I love that! Me too actually. We lost ours. 😅

Wow that's amazing!! I love that 🫶
I have clothes from more than 10 years ago, books from when I was a teen ( cat books mostly
I've had my iron for almost 50 years. Still does the job.
LOVE that!!

They make ottomans or poofs you can put the stuffed animals in and they become the stuffing. That way they are still there but not in sight.
@anniedoke i love this idea! and awww congratulations on your pregnancy! i hope the moment she plays with your toys is all you’ve ever dreamed. 😭🤍
I have a ruby cup from my grandma from 1904. I am named after her and it has Mary and 1904 engraved on it. She got it as a young girl at The World’s Fair. It’s precious to me.

*cries in weight fluctuations*
Grrat stuff Ashlynne!
I still have my 21 dress it’s 40 years old and can still wear it I used it as a maternity dress also
That’s so talented.
I have to have taps put on the heels to make them last.
Excited for Christmas?
👏👏👍💞😃😘
