- As I was out prospecting on the rivers of Vancouver island I came across a famous fossil hunting FREAK! Skippy the Fossil Freak. Skippy is well know in the area for his outrageous antic, but also his knowledge of local fossils. I was honored to be invited on a trip up the river looking for fossil and being taught the ropes of Vancouver island fossil hunting. And call it beginners luck, but one of the first fossils I pulled out was..... Yes.... An dinosaur. Well a Dinosaur bone. Skippy got VERY excited. I had no idea what I had just found.
I always thought it was hard doing videos with Pioneer Pauly because of his energy level. Well Skippy takes it to a new level of CRAZY! Check out the video and watch the FREAKY adventure.

@@mattyadar0872 Plesiosaurs lived at the same time as dinosaurs, but their ancestors branched off over 200 million years ago, before either plesiosaurs or dinosaurs even existed.
I’m from the uk we have quite a bit of plesiosaur vertebrae also full skeletons it’s mainly from the Jurassic coast Whitby museum has a full skeleton on display

If you are up for trying alternative medicines there is a great deal of ways to help people with even the severest PTSD. Psylocibin from Magic Mushrooms are now being used in many countries in the World and the success rate is phenomenal. Also MDMA. I know in some counties in the US they are illegal and are in Europe mostly but in some places you can be prescribed such things and in a controlled way. I hope you get rid of your PTSD man... All the best to you mate.

Dan seeing this video just shows how beautiful Canada really is. Here in Mississippi our water and creeks/rivers are not even close to being that clear. When Living in a place your whole life you don’t seam to see the beauty in your own landscape
IKR? I always wondered as a teenager *why* people would be tourists and come to my small B.C. community from around the country & world. Vancouver was a 12 hour drive/2 hour flight away from my old hometown and WAY more fun than ,my hometown to my teenage brain. Now at 56 l see why people visit here.
The small creeks are clear but our main Fraser river is nasty. With a lot of bacteria
Mark Twain said he drank Mississippi River water with an inch of mud on the bottom of the glass , yech . They were tough bunch back then .
The Mississippi is a beautiful place, just a lot more silt in it and it is mostly slow, but historically it is an amazing river. That being said, time away allows you to appreciate other places and when you get back you may see her in a different light. I grew up on Vancouver Island, been away too long! Hope you and yours are well.
First gold prospecting, mineral collection and now fossil hunting this is excellent work keep it up and on the Dino bone you’ll need sand blasters and a paleotech engraver or pressure tool to try and take the rock off

I was hunting out of Jordan, Mt. for big game on my birthday, and went a ways down wind from my friends to have a b-day joint. Sat on a big red rock (sandstone) and soon realized I'd sat on the head of a tyrannosaurus of which I recovered its lower right jaw tip which I still have.
This video was AMAZING, the energy alone. Love how Dan isn't scared to not be right, learn new stuff everyday and share it with us!! Much appreciated!!
Finding fossels is just neat. Gold is bold but fossils tell a story, possibly more valuable. Skippy is a character indeed.

My fave video you've made Dan! I'm living on van island myself. You should go check out the fossils and geology at Muir Creek up past Sooke. It has 30 million year old fossils everywhere and interesting fracture lines left from earthquakes.

I was born and raised in Courtenay, Dan.. I too know where you are in the video.. I hunted fossils back.. oh.. in the late 50s and 60s.. When I left for University, I donated my fossils and arrowheads to the museum.. I spent many years in Victoria, ---family, business, work-- But now I am back in Nanaimo, I will definitely be getting back into fossil hunting... along with gold panning and more detecting.. I hope one day to meet up with you and have a good visit
Very cool finds Dan! I am a 2nd generation rockhound. My father was a rock, gem, mineral and fossil collector all of his life, and passed his passion and knowledge for this fun hobby to me! Now, in my 50s, I have ALL kinds of neat rocks from around the world, from rare gems and fossils to pretty pebbles, displayed about my home, inside and out!

You have taught me so much about gold prospecting! I have family that live in your area of BC and I have been there a few times (Vancouver, Okanagan (sp?) I love that you change up topics of your vids and excited to see one on fossils. Here in Mississippi we have awesome fossils but very little gems or gold! My county is awash in Late Cretaceous period fossils of sea and land creatures. Once, I found a gorgeous mosasaur tooth less than 10 miles from my house. Also, a Axis C1 Mastodon vertebra less than 5 miles away!

It is amazing seeing the beautiful water, and the sounds..... I live in Arizona, we are having a great Monsoon season so far.... but to see how clear and amazing that stream is..... reminds me that I live in the desert.... just makes my mouth water.... beautiful... thank you for the little sip of goodness!!

I grew up in Campbell river and frequented the exact spot you were in. No one believes me when I say that there are enough fossils there, that you can just pick em up off the ground. Love it.

Wow Dan, to find a ghost shrimp! Un-seen by another human ever! other than your first glimse/lick! For millions of years..... astounding. I have done this, and found fossils in my land - England. Considering we only have a minute selection of possible fossils that have ever been; and may unlikely remain. This is very ever exciting..... your guide looks like alot of fun to be with. I love Skippy. I was just in Comox collecting Dallasite.
The last time I was on that river I found a very large clam like shell base that's 500mm by 700mm and was missing around 60%.
I also found a rather large coporlite and tons of shells that look like they were laid down yesterday

Just found me a lovely boulder with some bone with a joint and a few feather impressions both large and small. Carried it for 8 miles in my hands.

It’s funny you put this video up. On Sunday I was out on a creek prospecting in Australia where I live and came across a fossil of I don’t know what yet. So much detail in it, it was the last thing I ever expected to find.
My dream fossil find would be an opalised crab/belemnite/ammonite from aus.. never going to happen but a man can dream
