But I also think the first fight is way more interesting because it's not him fighting a random monster, he's fighting one of our main villains. And it allows her to be defeated, we get a card, but we don't kill a main villain, we've just established her as a fighter, and I feel like there's already a bit of a rivalry here because she got defeated against Gotchard. It doesn't seem like this will be a thing all the time which I'm a little disappointed about, but it could repetitive."

My THEORY about why Hopper1 and Steamliner chose Hotaru is because of his father. The show mentioned there was another Gotchard years ago, and I think that’s his dad, whose face we haven’t seen yet.
Hopper1 chooses him after he saves the girl sure, but it’s also after he gives her his full name. So I think the twist is going to be that Hopper1 heard that our protagonist’s last name is the same as Gotchard’s last user, and chose because of that. Hopefully that means Hotaru will actually have to prove himself later on.

@@crowravencorvenrow This show is about alchemy so his dad could easily have some alchemy nonsense going on that helps him live over 120 years.
I more interested in the villians, as they are named after the Greek Fates. Clotho, who creates the string of fate, Lachesis who measures the string, and Atropos who cuts the string.
I like the main character cuz it's a innocent average kid that just falls into this crazy world. And maybe he'll feel that he's not worthy cuz he's nothing special like an alchemist but just him being heroic will be enough to be gotchard. Also I feel like that be my reaction if someone told me I was a Kamen rider now "well I guess this is what I'm doing now" 😂
While he gained the belt too quickly I think his test of worthiness will be part of this first arc, the theme is cool, suit is amazing, theme goes HARD and in truth I am excited for this one. Also Hopper 1 is the best.

I kinda don’t get a lotta this criticism.. the character’s whole deal is he’s looking for the thing that makes him who he is; his “gotcha.” So him being led around a bit in this episode makes a certain amount of sense. Also, if he “found his gotcha” within 20 minutes of him being introduced, what are we doin for the rest of the season? I think a lotta people got this weird energy they’re bringing to this show because Geats just ended and they’re all tryin to act like they’ve never seen a pilot episode for a year-long season of a show before.

Anyway, I thought the first ep. was solid enough. Villain intro was sick, seeing all the chemy being used was also pretty cool, (hoping Hotaro will be able to learn how to properly use the chemy like that guy did)
Hotaro was aight. He isn't Ace by a long shot, but I heard he was supposed to be just some regular guy lol
Found it interesting we see a fight scene of one of the main villains, Hopper 1 and Steamliner were cool (although I originally thought they would actually speak but ah well, gives me a semi Pokemon feel to them)
While this episode didn't wow me like Geats', it still leaves room for more episodes and I hope things pick up and get greater as time goes on

Personally, I like this episode and the way it sets up our main kamen rider. It's one thing for a kamen rider to have their Kamen rider moment and become a kamen rider but as established with Hotaro, he's still deciding what he wants to be when he grows up and just screams "Gotcha". He's just following the wishes of other people rather than actually having a goal he himself wants. So him just becoming a kamen rider because someone told him to would fit in this case because that's just what someone told him to do.
If I have to guess, the main theme of this story will be about a coming of age story with alchemy as the background for it. It will be about Hotaro discovering to be a kamen rider and later on his future goal beyond alchemy.
It's kinda annoying how they must have the suit debut in the first episode. I really, really wish they gave more time to develop the main characters before they get a chance to transform. Thinking back, it's kinda mindboggling how they didn't even have Faiz fight in the first episode and ended on his henshin.
Or in Ryuki where it's just the blank form till the second episode.
Back in the early stages of Heisei, they made stories to appeal to the J-drama audience, which didn't do well since having a J-drama superhero shows it something that many Japanese audience don't want.
Plus, the series is supposed to be a huge toy commercial
@@phantomwolf203 Or, even in Kuuga, with all of the versions of the character- Riku, Yusuke Godai and Onodera, and White #2 from the novel- start out in the white colored Growing Form, also known to the police in the series as Unidentified Lifeform #2, while the red colored Mighty Form being designated Unidentified Lifeform #4, yes, Kuuga’s first two forms were literally considered two completely separate beings.
Well, early Heisei is a far cry of what Rider is now. One isn't inherently better, mind you, just different. You got to remember Kamen Rider is still a kids show at heart, even Kuuga was and other similar more "mature" seasons (which also have them transform in the first ep). Faiz is more an outlier if anything. Gotchard especially is, seemingly, more light hearted like Fourze, so it makes sense just letting him just transform immediately.

I enjoyed it enough, especially the fights and the Gotchard suit (love the sheen on it). The Steamhopper Fever is amazing when he dissipates into steam and reforms for the kick.
Granted I wish this first episode could've been split up into two to let the concepts and things they're setting up get time to breathe.
3:03 But they did, Hopper1 picked him because of his kind heart and him wanting to help out, that caused Hopper1 to call out SteamLiner and when he was hanging in the clip your showing, he made the proclamation that he wouldn't leave Rinne to fight alone despite him having nothing to do with this or even be able to help her, that's what actually sealed the deal for both the Chemies and when SteamLiner decided to bring him to Fuga.
On the other hand while Rinne is qualified to fight but that doesn't mean she would be qualified to be a Kamen Rider because in this show the point isn't just to fight Chemies but to also to get along with them, her first instinct was to straight up attack SteamLiner why trying to understand why he was doing it.
Yes he was going through a group of people, but one they got out of the way and two you can see the tracks forming over people without touching them so it could be that he can choose not have mass when coming into contact into things like humans. Could also be that SteamLiner was looking for someone that would focus on saving people instead of attack him.
Ontop of all that, they also had Houtarou say he felt a something in his heart when looking at Hopper1 meaning he can resonate with Chemies.
4:00 to me i thought the scene where he names the belt as the 'Gotchard' belt and him being 'Kamen Rider Gotchard' was that moment, as if in the moment if took this path of Kamen Rider , he can find his 'Gotcha'
6:50 while the belt has a 'Hopper Hopper' sound, Steamliner seems more Boost like with more sounds like 'Greatliner' and ' Gigaliner' etc

But Steamliner is just MOOD. The Chemy is menacing and unhinged.

I like his suit it's so shiny and I also like his ability to turn into fog ,I hope they will keep it and he will use it more often in the battle to dodge attack,go through objects and surprise attacks,because then he will be the 1st rider who has this cool ability in his base form

My theory is that the alchemists don’t like the Chemies that’s why Lean wasn’t chosen. Also, Hotaro said that he has the ability to sense Chemies (he said he felt excitement when holding Hopper 1), maybe that’s a reason he was chosen.
Also you didn't notice the parallel between Hotaru and Rin?
Rin's fate was decided beforehand by her duty as an alchemist.
Hotaru's fate was decided for him by becoming a(n alchemist) Kamen Rider.
The series is based on Alchemy, which is the theme of turning one thing into another. There's practically no way they aren't going to change their futures.
Also I think it was decided when Hopper1 saw Hotaru's lunch. Hotaru likes to mix things, which again ties into the alchemic theme of the show. So when Hopper1 saw that this dude was just naturally inclined to mix things together casually, I think that was the moment.

I'm just thrilled my first Sentai-basis assertion about Gotchard was correct.
I feel like a lot of the problems I have with the rush to establish Hotaru as Kamen Rider is that he doesn't have a reason to be in this conflict, other than he was chosen. I feel like the tone would have been different if he was already apart of the alchemists but as like a failing student, that way Hotaru would already know about the Chemys and the Kamen Rider Prophesy, so he wouldn't feel so out of place in this world.

Hopper1 seemed to approve of Hotaro a bit from his kindness, so he called SteamLiner over to see. That's when Rinne got involved and he had to protect her from SteamLiner. I feel like SteamLiner was going about looking for their friend, sensed them in Hotaro's possession and wanted them back, but when Hopper1 explained he was like: "Alright. Now boarding, one Hotaro Ichinose!"
Hotaro and Rinne are gonna be a great Rider/Support duo.
As for Wild Mode, that seems to be the actual form of the Rider and the humanoid form allows him to learn how to wield the power.
Didn't that alchemist who gave him driver said that he was choosen since he can hear and feel chemies like in kingohger when he was the only one who could talk to shugods

Because that old man was dying and wishing to find the right person faster otherwise he would die and the belt would be on the wrong hand. Like he said if the driver on the wrong hand it would be a weapon to destory the world. I feel bad for the old man dying just to make sure he got the actual person to be trust.

I feel like the belt is the kamen rider equivalent of the philosopher stone, so maybe it has some untapped power that opens a door of darkness
I enjoyed this episode more than most. Hopefully it will get better so that everyone else can enjoy it as much as I did.
I think Hotaru will come into his own as the series goes on. I remember back when Geats first episode aired that fans were pretty hyped for Ace but didn't really care about Keiwa wasn't really on anyone's radar until later. Personally, I prefer an underdog to someone that's already naturally talented. It makes their development a lot more fulfilling. It's kind of like with Joey Wheeler from Yugioh. He started out as a terrible duelist, but through experience he became quite the threat and rose to #3 amongst the pros. :)
I find it funny that im the only one who likes the wild forms they're pretty cool and i enjoy when riders have two forms

I think that Hotaro works as the mc because he doesn't know what he wants to do in the future which is relatable.
I really do hope Rin manages to be the secondary rider because it really would be cool to have her buttheads with Hotaru from the start instead of it being like "Oh she has a classmate that could be her friend/brother that is the rival rider and we'll have to wait a while before she riders" like MANY Rider seasons
I think the Premiere was interesting and definitely has me intrigued.

One of the goals of the Lucky Clover and Smart Brain in Faiz was to aquire the belts of Faiz, Kaixa, and Delta for the Orphonoc King. I doubt Gotchard is going to take inspiration from that but its a fun coincidence.
Hopper 1 and Steamliner didn't choose Hotaro because he saved Rin. Hopper 1 already chose him after like 2 mins of "talking" and then called Steamliner to them which is why Steamliner was driving through those people, Hopper 1 called him. Fuuga handed Hotaro the driver because he sent Hopper 1 and Steamliner to fine a worthy wielder and they like he asked they brought back Hotaro so he didn't need to vet Hotaro because he trusted the chemies with a task and they accomplished that so he handed Hotaro the driver and then magicked the knowledge of the driver into Hotaro's head because "there is no time to explain" which isn't far from the truth because as soon as he gives Hotaro the driver the sisters show up and attack them.
The villians are the most intriguing to me at the moment

Okay so I'm gonna be honest, not the biggest fan of hotaro's character but it still makes sense. It's far too soon to just have another tsukasa or ace anyways lmao. I hope they don't use that sentai (private lobby)henshin every time 😂 didn't think it looked good in saber either. The suit looks amazing and I love the Greek theming. The henshin jingle is like the perfect length and seeing how the actual henshin works on screen was really cool. They really knocked it out of the park with the "catch em all concept" but I'm curious if they will all basically be like hopper1 where all they do is say their names (like are we going the poke route or the digi route I'm genuinely curious) I also really like antagonists as they remind of like clay dolls or homonculi(though the outfits remind me of Garo), this kr series is definitely giving me heavy anime vibes but hopefully they can stick the landing Overall i don't mind the back to basics feel and it was a pretty good 1st ep

Episode 1 felt weird in some places, but I am happy I stuck with it. Personally, I am happy with this series so far.

I think Kamen Rider gotcard ep 1 was good and the whole episode. I was saying hopper was so freaking adorable I liked the episode so much I didn’t watch it with subtitles lol but I need to lol btw I love your videos:)
Even if it’s the first episode, there’s room for improvement. Now sure how the gimmick will be handled with 102 (or more) cards.
Pretty sure Fuga referred to Hotarou as "chosen by fate", which is why he has the driver and not whatsherface. So it doesn't really matter that he isn't as heroic or competent, the plot literally demands he be the hero. And considering he was willing to jump into battle the second he got the driver, I'd say he is qualified. Also, I'm not sure how Fuga "dying" is tonal whiplash. Like, he was in this life or death battle and it resumed after he passed off the driver. Showed Hotarou the stakes and probably helped spur him into action since he knows what these villains are capable of.
I dunno, man. It feels like so many of the criticisms of Gotchard are just nitpicks and people not willing to give it a chance cause it "isn't like Geats". I remember the same thing happening to Drive after Gaim. Its frustrating.
Gotchard is a pretty good series for now. Hopper1 is so adorbs
Since this is the first season where Keiichi Hasegawa is the lead writer, I'm expecting it to be a slow-burn story, so I'll put aside my gripes with the pilot episode.
That being said, I fully expect some Ultraman Nexus or SSSS Gridman levels of mindfuckery as the series goes on.

The wild forms are definitely weird, though I generally prefer them over the revice remixes simply because those were weirder

I read it that the Chemies last wrecked havoc on earth 120 years ago and the existence of Gotchard before now is neither here nor there. It is possible that someone else used the cards, but maybe they had a different base form and dude simply picked hopper and steamliner out of his own bias

I can't remember where I heard this but apparently both Houtarou and Rinne are main characters. Houtarou is the rider and Rinne supports him. Similar to Ikki/Vice or Shoutarou/Philip.

I kinda want to think gotchard is like kuuga (despite me watching the first two episodes) since both have visions of the riders of past and they start as the wrong form then the right form like with kuuga growing to mighty and gotchard with wild steamhopper to the actual suit steamhopper

I actually like a lot of aspect of Kamen Rider Gotchard... except the Kamen Rider itself.
I like the suit, driver and the cards. They all looks cool. The wild form looks neat especially from what I saw in Geats Summer Movie. I also like the concept of Chemie creatures and its relation to the Villain and Gotchard Driver, like strange creatures combined with a human create a superpower being is fun, especially since it's not an exclusive power to Gotchard or the villain, both side can do that! Or the Villain itself, the fact that they actually went to the field and fight themselves and not just raise some random human sacrifice as pawn raise my eyebrows in positive way. Even the Alchemy Academy itself was intriguing, while not explored in this episode it's still make me curious about the rule of their "alchemy" power.
But man... the main rider... I just can't. Hotarou is plain as ****. I just don't like main character with no motivation. That gacha bit at the first few minutes are not even giving him a sort of gambler personality; he like it just because I guess, because he did no gamble at all. Also, the way he became the chosen one? Bruh. Kidnapped, get responsibility dump by a random old man, and suddenly receive "knowledge" of the transformation with a flick of a ring. He's not a Kamen Rider, he's a protagonist of a third rate gacha game! Which is ironic.
No motivation to be a Kamen Rider except because an old man dump the responsibility to him, no heroic personality (or even one except that he's an airhead with no motivation), or even actual heroic moment... overall my score for the first episode is "What a Waste of Main Character for a Great Concept"/10.

To be honest, it’s a mixed bag, I love the concept of an alchemy based Kamen Rider, because i watched the OVA version of Fullmetal Alchemist when i was an adolescent kid, and I love that, but the first henshin was a bit bizarre, and i don’t fully understand the rules of using the gotchardriver, and if its possible to mix and match chemie ride cards, as long as the chemie rating adds up to 10
Keep in mind, this is the first episode, so there is a probability that gotchard might be the rise or downfall of the Rewia era
would say that just like the majority of people, I prefer Geats Premier as compared to Gotchard Premier. I also like that the Chemys are like pokemon like creatures, and their categories are like pokemon types, not to mention that the Blank Ride Chemy Cards are like pokeballs. I also totally agree with you that in the Premier, Rinne really seems like she's going to be the one chosen to be Gotchard instead of Houtarou just because she had more knowledge about the Chemys and she's an Alchemist as well. Fuga seems to me, at the moment, like the mentor or father figure like character, but later on, get killed. Houtarou is something. It is still early for me to say anything, so yeah, but I I am still excited to see what surprises Gotchard has in store for the future

I mean hotaro did give batta 1 food and batta 1 then called steam will listen to his homie but it would have been cool to see steam and hopper 1 fight over on who should be gotchard batta 1s reason being childish and steam being more adult but still the episode is fine and plus I think steam is blind so yeah as long as he's happy I guess
