Honestly this is your best from the series in the OBX, you captured the people, land and sea brilliantly. I have so enjoyed all the other videos but to me this particular one you have outdone yourself! Your street photos are fantastic, not the easiest to capture but well worth documenting.
16:00 Since you love the OB, Myrtle Beach SC has a hotel where the whole parking lot has turned purple. Not to mention our beachfront state parks (Huntington specifically) is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been! Absolutely worth the visit, and it's crazy affordable out here
Theres an entire highway of purple streetlights in the Raleigh area of NC, used to pass it going to the airport all the time! Its on the triangle expressway, US 1 near Raleigh Durham
The Outer Banks is my family's vacation spot each September for the past 12 years so I feel the vibes so hard when you drop an OBX video. I usually dont shoot film, but I'm taking my film camera this year and attempting to get some shots that look half as good as yours. Also side note my local Giant Eagle has purple lights and I've always wondered why lol.
Almost went to OBX this past week but had to postpone due to some car repairs. Taking this as yet another sign I need to experience this place. Great video once again 🤌🏻 5:32 loved this one so much.
I had a friend who ran the ferry Captain Hart my dad would spend this vacation at the outer banks with his camera and when he died I got two closets full of slides and his Canon AE-1 and a couple of lens his Kodachrome slides have never faded in over 40 years
I use 35mm Voigtlander Color Skopar, Nokton Classic MC, and Summicron. Well, that Color Skopar is one of the sharpest and the most contrast M lenses I’ve used. So I sold the Nokton, keep the Summicron and Skopar.
I've seen purple streetlights in Custer, SD. Was a few months ago though, not sure if they've been fixed. Tons of landscape photography opportunity in that area regardless.
I drove from Chicagoland area to Green Bay last fall. On highway 43 there was a few rows of the purple street lights. Not sure where on the drive but honestly it’s a nice, eerie drive to make if you like that sort of thing. You should visit door county, a lot of beautiful things to see up there, especially in the fall right before the off season. Like always, amazing videos!
We've got a bunch of purple streetlights in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area of NC. Not sure where you typically fly into for the OBX but if it's RDU, we're about 20 min away from the airport.
Purple lights here in Panama City Beach FL. I didn't know that's why they turn purple. Pretty cool. I haven't shot them, but I have thought about it. I love the way they look!
Love the Outer Banks. We try to stop there on our way back to New Jersey from Florida whenever we go down there. We only seem to get there in the off season; it’s got an interesting feel at that time. You got some beautiful shots there. Looking forward to seeing what you do with Wildwood. It’s my favorite town on the Jersey Shore. I live at the northern tip of the Jersey Shore and my main project for the past several years has been photographing resort towns in the off season. Which doesn’t mean I stop during the summer, just that it’s different. Wildwood is the best; they have the greatest concentration of mid-century architecture on the east coast, and they take its preservation seriously. Which means that when a motel gets torn down to be replaced by condos, they make sure the sign gets moved to the visitor center. But hey, there’s still a lot of cool motels in Wildwood.
The purple streetlight thing is super interesting, I had no idea. I always thought lights I found like that were done on purpose in support of one of our state colleges, K-State... I think my parents probably told me that when I was younger lol. If you're ever in the Kansas City area they're not super hard to find, there's at least a few scattered all over the metro, as well as Lawrence, which is about 30 minutes outside of KCK.
Not too far up in Oakland there is a parking lot outside the Lake Merritt BART station where every single street lamp (maybe 5-10 poles) has gone purple. Between 8th and 9th street between Oak and Fallon. I snapped a phone pic if you wanna see what it’s like
Willem, I am extremely eager to buy your upcoming photo book with all of your excellent picstures of LA freeways, etc. Will you give us a release date heads up when the time comes? I want to make sure I'm ready to buy. I'm very concerned it will go out of stock quickly which is good for you but bad for me if I miss the announcement :(
It's so frustrating. And if do go on holidays with my "normal" friends they get frustrated because I'm looking and composing for 10-15 mins. Or don't want to move because it's a good spot. But it is understandable.
City of phoenix bought a ton of those LED lights and you can find them failed in a lot of places here in phoenix. there are some streets that the whole street is lit up purple because all of them have failed. next time i go location scouting i'll get some cross streets here in phoenix
#stillwatching. Don't know if they count or not but they have those blue LEDS at the train stations on the LIRR(you were close) from Manhattan next time you out here. Great Job.
Funny it's kinda interesting there is a whole parking lot here in Colorado springs and literally all the lights are that weird purple color... I thought it was supposed to be like that 😅
You're welcome, Willem ;) Honestly I'm quite stunned by the fact that so few people watch videos like this in their 100% entirety. I mean, judging by my own video stats it's a bit of a knife in the gut seeing the steep drop-off in viewer count after the first few minutes, but perhaps it's just that my videos suck in comparison to yours, haha! 😂 Anyhoo, fantastic episode as always! Very inspiring. Cheers
This man loves going to the outer banks
Yes, this man really outer banks
I do huh
I live in NC and he goes more than I do haha
It’s a very special place ❤
honestly i really loved the fireworks pictures. the light explosions are so fun and unique!
16:06 The Purple lights, you can find tons of them here in Vancouver, BC.
We have quite a few down in the Seattle area too. Nice too look at, but they kill my night vision while driving.
The stunner at 32:08. Willem is a model!!
Honestly this is your best from the series in the OBX, you captured the people, land and sea brilliantly. I have so enjoyed all the other videos but to me this particular one you have outdone yourself! Your street photos are fantastic, not the easiest to capture but well worth documenting.
there's a stretch of purple streetlights along the 163 in san diego near the intersection with the 8. the scenic route!
You are for real the biggest inspiration to create videos! Love the vibe so much.
16:39 there’s so many purple streetlights in Charlotte! I thought I was losing my mind one night and then I realized it was intentional 🫠
I love the human element you’ve brought into your work. Good lookin wv

There are 2 purple lights currently in Alcoa TN between Maryville and the Airport - One is by itself on a side road and looks incredible.

You know it's a good day when Willem posts! Happy Labor Day to everyone (:
Another willem video! Time to pour some coffee and enjoy the vibes
Willem back with another banger of a video!
Thanks for sharing this video! Great shots and storytelling in here. I know it takes lots of work, you’ve done well!

Rad Peter cameo, his work out on the coast is great, been following him for a while.
The Pizza Hut boxes shot is awesome!
I've seen purple streetlights in Custer, SD. Was a few months ago though, not sure if they've been fixed. Tons of landscape photography opportunity in that area regardless.
Literally gasped, would absolutely love a to own HUGE print of 3:47
Beautiful shot. Reminds me of Massimo Vitali's work, italian photographer.
Des Plaines IL has a whole road full of purple lights. Right across a retro hot dog joint called Rand Red Hots

What a picturesque summer you had Willem.

Pittsburg, Kansas. Right in the middle of a beautiful neighborhood there are purple lights. I never knew why they were that color.
You should check out Topsail Island while your down there. One of my favorite vacation spots ever.
Hey Willem- there are SO many of these purple street lights where my grandpa lives, in Chandler, AZ! Pretty much filled with them
The purple streetlight thing is super interesting, I had no idea. I always thought lights I found like that were done on purpose in support of one of our state colleges, K-State... I think the purple lights project is one of my favorites.
We have quite a few purple lights here in Bakersfield, CA!
Seeing your project about the purple street lamps, Connecticut’s highways (I91, 84) are littered with them right now!!
There's a purple light in downtown Austin TX! Always assumed there was a specific use for the color
You should do a photo book of this like "The Americans".
If you come to Florida, there’s TONSSS of purple street lights around the Tampa and Orlando areas
Hope you get to check out other sites in NC, the state is gorgeous and certain towns have that lost in time patina throughout it.
Lots of purple lights in Albuquerque!
Mooie en interessante film Willem ❤❤

Come to Atlanta, those busted purple lights are about the only ones I see
"Pristine beaches", proceeds to drive through them.
Down here near Clemson, SC I've seen a bunch of the failing LEDs. Matter of fact, there is one right across the street from me.
#stillwatching.
Don't know if they count or not but they have those blue LEDS at the train stations on the LIRR(you were close) from Manhattan next time you out here.
Great Job.
Bellissime photos!!! 😍
Come to Vancouver (Canada), we got purple street lights all over the place.

Absolute ton of those street lights in Pflugerville (suburb outside of Austin TX)
Purple Street light for a Whole parking lot at Vermont (sadly away from LA) in front of Middlebury's Shaw's Grocery Store.
Basically the whole parking lot will be purple, illuminated by about over 20 of such lights.
A ton of the purple lights in south Florida.
In El Paso, Texas there is a street full of the purple street lights.
Was sick meeting you this time around🤙🏼

Love your videos! can I ask what type of microphone you use to record videos at home?
There is a whole road of purple LED street lights where I live and was very confused why. Now I know. If you’re ever in Scotland you can go wild
The idea of traveling anywhere in the country to take a picture of a street light is very funny to me.
We have those purple streetlights scattered throughout Minnesota and you’re always welcome to come through my studio in Minneapolis 🤝
