I found myself putting the volume up in order not to miss anything:) Getting supplies first thing tomorrow, can't wait to try it! Your process is absolutely amazing!
Absolutely stunning results Dan! I think what intrigues me most is your patience and the thought process you employ in determining the next step. Be well!
my cats woke me at four and so I started to watch some of your videos. I found your way of monoprinting so cool, that I tried it with my 4th graders at school today. Wow!!! The kids loved it. Thank you!!!!
Your method of monoprinting is so unique and so inspirational. It is a very accessible method and certainly open ended in possibilities. I love watching you work -- it's soothing and relaxing. Thank you for sharing all of this!
I just came into this for my first time and my eyes, my heart, my soul my everything are falling in love with this. You are awesome, not selfish, you even show us colors and all materials and steps by steps you take. Oh my gosh this is stunning!! Congratulations such much talent👍👍👍👏👏👏🫰Thanks for sharing!!
I liked seeing different ways to create masks, and the transfer of the dark lines and shapes by tracing and then using the back to paint it. The final application of the pale grey-green was perfect. Before it seemed that the dark areas were taking over. This gave me lots of ideas, thanks.
Love your work . I had a board and blue tape a piece of watercolor paper already with gesso on it, no oils, but I had acrylics no plastic but I used the wrapper that they put cereal in and my old seam roller from when I wall papered.I was bound and determined to try this out. Lets just say I'm a work in progress. Lol. Main thing I'm learning, not giving up and having fun! Thankyou!
Thanks for this fabulous video!!! It’s so exciting watching your process... I am an art student and learning so much from your videos Dan, Thankyou for all your posts.
An amazing piece of work, I was fascinated every step of the way. Than you Dan; you have reignited my creative drive. I can't waite to try some of the techniques you demonstrated.
.thanks, hope its ok to share this: . . aftter watching this, I sat up and made a "mobile" version, containing the materials/tools, for when I go somewhere with lots of time and nothing to do! A cardbord tube with the paper wrapped on the outside and everything else inside the tube!
Thank you so much Dan for this amazing video. I followed the steps as much as possible ( I watched it first,) but my piece turned out to be a fiasco. It wasn't too bad until i tried the black part. Then, everything went south.😅 Will try again but it takes more time, skill, and thought than I was expecting.
Keep practicing and you will get there. A good tip is to use some scrap paper for the first paint transfer then you will remove any excess paint. Build the layers slowly apply very thin.
Hi Dan, I love this piece and really enjoyed watching you create it. How do you store all your completed works pls? Obviously I know some of the pieces are sold but I'd be interested to know how you store the others - you must have accumulated a large body of work.... Thanks as always for posting this amazing video.....
Good question! Martin, thanks for asking, I will leave this one about a week to completely dry, do not use any extra heat to speed this up, never put near a radiator or use a hairdryer, just leave to dry naturally (which in the cold damp British climate takes a while) Once completely dry, wrap in tissue paper and store in a vertical folder (never store flat) Glad you enjoyed the demo.
Dan what.a superb technique very beautiful and very little investment thank you so much for showing. Let me tell you a little bit about me and where I am in my trip as a naive artist. By the way if I am bugging you I will understand no or short response. So I am a 78 naive artist, changing my style from abstract expressionism to minimalism, less is more type. The people I have been studying Cy Twombly, Bridget Riley, Brice Marden, Miro, last years of Braque Matisse Le corcusiere, you get the idea. But the change is not coming along very well. After watching your process: I thought this technique is superb to create Monos. But here is the main question: can it be used to create plates that can be passed through a press? That is other wise to make the transfers on to paper can it be cooper, steel, aluminium, lino. I would make the mono using 3 plates plate1, the multi colors, plate 2 the blacks, 3 the white or off whites. A question on the technique what look like thin plastique to transfer the colors, looks very resistance takes lots of abuse: what type is it. Dan thank you for reopening my path to abstract expressionism and for the time you impart to my questions. Kindest regards emile michel.
Thank you, I try my best to respond to all the comments and feedback that I get. I think if someone takes time to ask a question or make a positive comment about the videos it is important to take time to reply. With all of my videos I really want to provide inspiration and encourage anyone, regardless of their ability to just have a go, it is important that they don't need to work with anything too expensive or complex, I want viewers to try out the techniques with what they could find around them or encourage them to recycle waste products when possible, I wanted to try and bring art techniques that seem out of reach. I don't have access to a printing press at the moment but I am sure that the techniques I experiment with could be improved with some additions. I get many comments from those who have tried out these techniques and it has had a very positive outcome for many and sent them off on their various creative journeys. The plastic you see me use is just a recycled plastic bag. Hope this reply is OK, and i wish you luck with all your creative efforts.
Thank you very much for taking the time to write. I am very impressed by the superb art pieces your technique, at least in your case, can create. As I said in my comment I am trying to find minimalism style, however your technique and your examples have opened a new door to abstract expressionism and I am going to go through it. Thank you so much. I like your compositions especially the middle one of the 3 BW vedio. your approach to controlling the negative space is remarkable. Regards emile michel.
Hi Dan I've been enjoying watching your techniques - thank you. Any chance you can tell me what type of piper you are using - the lighter crinkly type and also what you use around the frame area. Cheers
The paint transfer sheet is just very thin plastic, try recycled bags or bin liners or even freezer food bags. The frame is made from thin card that has been covered with parcel tape. Hope this helps.
Check description This is oil paint, all colours are listed in the description. You can work with acrylic paint but it's difficult because it dries too fast.
For this one I am using an A2 sheet of smooth card which is 300gsm. The flat surface works better with this technique You can spray the paper with a primer if needed. (I didn't)
A good heavyweight smooth cartridge paper or card would be ideal (200gsm) You can use a mixedmedia paper but you need a smooth surface for this technique.
I like everyone else was completely blown away by your stunning images. And I can't wait to try my hand with this process.
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed the demo.
AND I love the final result of this print -- it is rich in colour and depth. 👏👏👏👏🙌
Thank you

Omg. I totally asked myself why had I never made a reusable border frame. Brilliant. What did you make it out of? Please share.
Ha ha yes indeed! Why does all the obvious stuff have to be pointed out to us! 🤣
On a previous video I think he mentioned using card with packing tape
@@rachaelayers5591 Thank you Rachael...I'm a Rachel too!
Veo aqui mucha tecnica e inspiracion pero poco arte. Quisiera ver toda esta tecnica en arte figurativo.

what do you use for the transfer paper?
This is a sheet of thin plastic
Hi Dan ...please let me know if you are using Oil paint or acrylic? I just love your videos.
You can try this technique with acrylic or oil paint, this demo uses oil paint.
Grat👍👍👍
Hi Dan I've been enjoying watching your techniques - thank you. Any chance you can tell me what type of piper you are using - the lighter crinkly type and also what you use around the frame area. Cheers
The paint transfer sheet is just very thin plastic, try recycled bags or bin liners or even freezer food bags. The frame is made from thin card that has been covered with parcel tape. Hope this helps.
Could you use acrylic paints for this rather than oils...possibly with a fluid retarder?
You can, I have yet to try this but will hopefully film a video of this process.
This was certainly a bright spot on a grey , rainy morning . Did you gesso your paper ? I'm thinking of trying this technique over gold gesso.
Not with this one. I used a heavyweight smooth card (300gsm)
Absolutely gorgeous!!!!! What kind of plastic paper is that ... that you use? ❤️
It is plastic that I use for the paint transfer sheet.
OMGGGG Dan! I love watching you and your finished work is incredible!! Can I ask what type of paper you used for this project?
I work on a heavyweight 250gsm smooth card for this technique as this seems to work best. Glad you enjoyed the demo.
YAAAAAAAS!!!!!
Absolutely wonderful work. What is the kind of paper that you use for the monoprint?
I use a thick smooth card (250gsm) The paint transfer sheet is thin plastic (recycled bag) Thanks for watching.
I take it you are using oil paint. I use acrylic which fries so fast!
pourquoi utiliser du film plutot que du papier papier alu bravo pour vos oeuvres
Merci. J'utilise le film plastique car on peut obtenir beaucoup de texture et de variété de marques, c'est aussi un peu plus aléatoire ce que j'aime
What are the plastic sheets called? so I can buy some ❤
They are just very thin plastic, try bin liners or carrier bags.
HI FROM ARGENTINA! AMAZING! WHAT PAPER DO YOU USE? THANK YOU!
300gsm heavyweight smooth card (cartridge paper would also work)
is that wax paper you are using, Dan?
I use plastic sheets to use for the oil paint transfer. Try recycled bags such as freezer bags or bin liners
Please, acrylic or oil colors ? Thanks.
Check description This is oil paint, all colours are listed in the description. You can work with acrylic paint but it's difficult because it dries too fast.
What kind of paper are you applying the paint to? Is it tissue paper?
Its PLASTIC
Do you need anything to fix it at the end?
No because the layers of paint are so thin, there is no need to apply a varnish or fixative.
Hello..! A good work like always. What kind of paper you use for these work..!?
For this one I worked on 300gsm smooth card. Glad you enjoyed this demo.
@@DanTirels Thanks, and good work..!
You did it again! Love it! What paper size and weight did you use? Gracias
For this one I am using an A2 sheet of smooth card which is 300gsm. The flat surface works better with this technique You can spray the paper with a primer if needed. (I didn't)
what paper do you reccomend?
A good heavyweight smooth cartridge paper or card would be ideal (200gsm) You can use a mixedmedia paper but you need a smooth surface for this technique.
Love this Dan,can I ask what paper is it you use, looks like fine carrier bags
That is exactly what I use for the paint transfer sheets. Use them over and over, no waste. (and no brushes to clean)

Do you used oil ink?
I have yet to try this.
