Thanks for posting. I have the less loved 1500 Midget, but the concepts are the same. Right now I have no real problems with the car, but I drive it about 7 months per year, so problems will come in due course.
These type gearboxes originate from the Austin A30 from 1951 which was designed by Austin & used later in the Morris Minor (1952), A40 Farina (1958) & Austin Healey Sprite (1958) & M G Midget (1961)
I am a about to rebuild my 1275 transmission. Would it be possible to share the link for the video in normal video camera speed? Want to make sure I do not miss a step. Your videos are excellent and encouraging. Thank you.
Great videos - thanks. One issue I'm having. I cannot remove the c-clip off the input shaft bearing retainer. It sits in a machined groove and all of my attempts to open the clip only serve to snug it up along the outside lip of the groove, without any "daylight" between the clip and the retainer. Cannot get a tool in anywhere when the clip is open. How did you solve that problem?
the large C clip is sitting in the bearing itself (it has a groove in it). the size of the input shaft end means it has to go into the case to be removed so you have the take the clip off the bearing to be able to knock the input shaft through. i was using small screwdrivers, metal pointed scribes and thin blades to open the clip and then get under it to lever it up. i guess it could be corroded into the bearing which could make life hard. another approach you could try is tapping the input shaft out the wrong way as far as it will go (use heat on case if necessary) to move the clip a small amount away from the case making it easier to remove as it wouldnt be lodged hard up against the case. good luck and let me know how you get on.
Understand. I have a gearbox which jumps out of first at high revs so similar problem. Every cause is different but I would be looking to check the condition of 3 things here. Firstly check the condition of the gears themselves, any damage, broken teeth, excessive wear in the problem gear should be replaced. Next check the Baulk rings (synchro rings) for wear. look online for the dimension between gears and if excessive replace these. Finally check the selector rods. the balls and springs hold the rods in place and hence the gears in place. If these are worn or damaged they wont hold the gears in place properly. Hope that helps and gives you a place to start looking
Thanks for posting this. I’m gonna have a go at the rib case from my A40 farina note that the mysteries have been unlocked a little 🙂
Glad I could help

Apologies, the original videos are deleted now
This will be great when we need to dig into our camaro transmission
Thanks for watching
Thank you very much. I am from sri lanka
You are welcome
What literature did you use as reference for how to take it apart and the various tolerance specs etc?
A Haynes manual and 30 years of automotive engineering experience 😁👍 thanks for watching . Hope you find it useful
