    Had a 1974 for 11 years in North America never drove it in the winter season "salted roads" ! After not needing nor wanting to go over 80mph often did removed the air dam which did keep the front end from floating at and above that speed but often the dam bottomed out upon too steep inclines or descent found with some parking lots or drive ways. One quite noticeable improvement both to the ride and handling was I stiffened the body by replacing all those production cost saving screws fasteners used on all four fenders with machined thread fasteners with each bolt having two flat washers and a lock washer also placing a firm rubber gasket cut from old motorcycles tubes between the two surfaces being the fender and the inner chassis. Mint ! made this car far better feeling and sound denting than what it was just off the show room floor. Thanks for your presentation !

    I've been enjoying your videos for years now. So nicely done. You inspired me to start recording some commentary for my in-car race videos, but I've not edited any in yet. Have you considered trying some wheel to wheel racing? You definitely have the skill for it, and there is a great Sprite-Midget race series in the UK.

    If you have only ever driven and experienced modern day motor vehicle technology, any car from the bygone era of the TR6 or before is bound to be a disappointment by comparison. The whole pleasure of owning and driving a car like the TR6 is for the nostalgia of experiencing - and enjoying - old car technology, with all of its inherent shortcomings. The basic nature of the build of these cars means they can mostly be maintained on a DIY basis with an ordinary set of tools and the aid of a Haynes manual. But if that is not your thing, then don't go there.

    The smoothness in the 3rd run showed a big difference in the outcome. And by staying in second through the esses kept the revs up with no lost time and a better exit up the straight. 👍

    Okay I'm three quarters of the way through this explanation of buyers regret. In the decades between the Lotus Elise and the Triumph TR6, there existed a time when cheap production cars were all steel monocoque construction and modern Japanese or Italian dohc 16V engines with long production runs spanning decades found their way into millions of daily drivers, such as the Fiat/Lancia/Alfa twincam, the Toyota 4A-GE series and the Honda K20-24 series. These types of engines produce 200bhp na or 375bhp with forced induction, off 2 litres/ 4-cylinders reliably. The bog standard Elise, requires modification to make it track legal, Lotus built these in limited numbers (Elise Cup). If you wanted to be competitive in a naturally aspirated 2-litre production car and you wanted to win hillclimbs, you could run an Elise Cup or a Toyota MR2, for the balance and power to weight and all the rest, and neither would be as quick as a similarly modified Fiat X1/9. I recommend you buy a Delta Integrale and move to a mountainous region 😄

    Hi, very useful - thanks very much for posting. When you balanced the throttle bodies with the airflow meter did you increase the revs by adjusting the main throttle stop (and not the idle bypass setting screw?) For throttle body setting it would make sense to me that the idle bypass is taken out of the equation, so screwed shut. Thanks in advance for your opinion / advice. Cheers!

    • @mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349
      @mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349 21 день тому

      Yes. You are right. Used the throttle cable adjustment to set the revs about 1500-2000 to balance them taking into account the play in the inter throttle body linkages

    I dont really agree the point, that this classic will not rise in price. Especially very soon, when everyone hates those teslas, cars like the light and racecar-sounding TR6 will be very popular. I‘m from germany and on a sunny sunday you see many classics driven around, but there are not many cars around, that attract so much positive attention like the TR6. Everybody, boys and girls, women and men, they turn around and smile. There is something about this car, I think its the sheer beauty of the TR6 itselve in combination with the almost 60‘s F1 sound. Long story short, even most of the classic 911s dont get as much attention in the street, so buy one! You will not regret it!

    I own a 69 this man doesn't know much as far as the drivetrain when I had my American Muscle Cars we ran 411 posi rear up to a 512 a lot of torque and they would rev up real hi which gave the car the sound you want it you didn't buy it for gas economy nor did I buy my TR6 for gas economy it wasn't talked about in 1969 it was considered just a fun car to drive with a nice sound and mine has that and that's due set a 373 posi rear that's completely independent like a Corvette and at 65 mph the car sounded real nice it wasn't meant to be a convertible Mercedes with all the are dampening stuff they put in the fabric insulation for the floors if you notice on the TR6 you pull a carpet up there's nothing except metal it was a basic sports car and you need to keep maintenance on them all the time I take it with mine every time I use it but that's the fun of it use an old equipment my timing lights my son diagnostic machines that I haven't had to use in 30 years and on top of it if an EMP ever hits my car will run and as far as the clutch being heavy he should have felt my clutch in my Plymouth Satellite 440 six pack 440 six pack 68 the thing was a beast and the clutch was like pressing down on 50 lb of Rock but it was a cable truck non hydraulic nothing to break but the cable or the throwout bearing I don't know this guy what his problem is with the gearbox mine is tight as a Bitch for a 69 was complete independent suspension which only came in the Chevy Corvette in America so when you went around a nice corner at 60/70 and it went pretty good for 120 horsepower and I have no mechanical issues Little Things like the windshield wipers aren't the greatest but considering the car is 55 years old all original including paint I have no wiring issues add God forbid there is one the books that I have on this car from the previous owner he was a guy that was a freak with maintenance he's got every washer he ever replaced gave me 12 new brand new Redline tires backup Master cylinders backup carburetors with manifold and every screw that is supposed to be on this car is on it and was only in the rain once in 59 years no rust anywhere to be found complete beautiful yellow jasmine undercarriage belly and honestly I had a 1970 Datsun 240Z that maybe was a little faster butt handling wise the TR6 would hold its own

    The dash layout can be very different on early TR6s, like a friends 1970 model. Mostly the same controls, but in different places. In his car, the left hand stalk is off, side lights, then headlamps. The dip/mainbeam is a floor switch, just to the left of the clutch. It also doesn't have a volt-meter, it has an amp-meter. Wiper switches are different too and a number of other details.

    Nice presentation: the drive shaft issue is similar to the stag..One of the stag owners solved the issue using CV joints. I am trying to recall details from a quarter century old solution however I think the man used Toyota cv joints however, I suspect that anything from any vehicle with similar torque and BHP would suffice.

      It relieved the crank case pressure for sure so was helpful in not sending oil fumes back through the induction system, but the underlying cause was the engine needed a rebuild which is now done (see other videos)

      The engine was assembled and balanced by the builder. the flywheel was done separately by the engine builder so theoretically was fully balanced on assembly
