My father recently passed and left me a very fine example of a 1976 Tr6. Your channel is going to be something I refrence often to keep this machine tip top. Love it. He would have done this "experiment" you set up 100% I have to say that as a person with an affinity for aircraft, this vehicle is suprising in many ways in its similarity to say... something like an old school cessna. Its really quite beautiful. My apologies for the edits, but id like to add that My Tr6 is white same as yours same interior, only difference is that unfortunately I dont live in the UK and therefore dont have the fuel injected model... (My Dad was also not impressed about that hehe)
First time i see ignition adjust with vacuum gauge , but the first time must be the one ...🤗
Thanks for the great videos. I am thinking of buying a TR6 as a retirement project car and as part of doing "due diligence" before I fork out all that money (and to help me to make a good choice of vehicle) I have been looking for all the issues and challenges I might encounter with a TR6 to make sure there is nothing I wouldnt want to have to deal with and to help me with what to watch out for. A very helpful video series (and nothing yet that has put me off). If anything, the more I am learning about the TR6 the more I am thinking it is the right car for me. Thankyou.
A fun exciting drive .
Honest review but you've also experienced the journey to get there which is in the memory bank. I'm sure the car is improved. I'm looking at buying a TR6 and your channel is very enlightening.
Stopped after your I could put the money into a bank and earn 5%. Mate your driving and enjoying the car, you’ll hardly be doing that with cash lying in the bank. Another useless video with some bloke talking for the sake of listening to his own voice
Thankyou your vedio
thanks for watching
Good driving mate. Id say a quicker start off the green light should give you a few tenths of a second of more. I sensed a delayed reaction off the light.
Yep although remember the clock only starts when you break the beam . You can go anytime after the light goes green. Biggest challenge is not spinning up where you can lose seconds but got a plan next year to deal with that… stay tuned…
@@mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349 That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!
its british , theres a big clue
Thanks for watching
The biggest problem is it seems to want to drive on the wrong side of the road.
lol, the left side is always the right side :-)
Only eleven? When I got out of the service I considered a TR250 on a dealer lot. It hardly started and when it ran it was rough and seemed ill. I passed for a used reliable Porsche 914 2.0 (If you ignore the fuel injection) I always wish that somehow I could have owned the TR250 but I'm sure it would have broken my heart.
Thanks for watching
I believe engine oil and fork oil/hydraulic oil are measured using a different scale and they have different properties, so a 30 weight engine oil is not equal to a 30 weight fork or hydraulic oil. There is a lot of misinformation about this online. I personally would not use engine oil in these dampers despite what I have read online and in the owners manual.
Thanks for watching
The most upsetting part of this video was probably the camera wind buffeting.
The limitations of an iPhone and basic go pro for amateur video production I’m afraid .
Great video, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
My 1st car back in 1970 was a 1961 Wolsley 1500 which I modified, fitting wide wheels and radial tyres together with double anti roll bar on the front and single on the rear. I was still dissatisfied with the rather soft suspension so pumped out the old oil from the lever arm shockers and refilled with 90w oil - what a difference. The car handled so much better and rode better too. I had the car five years and then passed it on to a friend and those shocks were still working fine years later.
thanks for watching. good tips
Buy a Miata and put the TR6 badge on it, if you must.
thanks for watching
I had a spitfire 1300 and then a TR6 1972, the spitfire was a much better car, light, nimble, light clutch and a lot for fun….however the TR looked better. I say to this day that the spit was a sports car and the TR was a tractor.
great input. thanks for watching
People complain about modern 911 speedsters and cayman spyders having bad soft top roof designs. If the designers had free rein for these cars, they would’ve never had roofs at all just the 1st gen viper. On another note, this video is awesome, Im a young mechanic at a vintage racing shop in NorCal and work on a couple MGB race cars, alfas, and a tr6 street car among some other historical race cars and by far the mgb’s are just sharp when they’re dialed in. If you end up at Sonoma raceway, go to huffaker Motorsports and ask for Sam.
I can picture the braziers burning and all the staff stood around on strike.
Yep , strong unions , crap leadership and a lack of investment killed the UK car industry many years ago . Thanks for watching
Well done, good season all round. Looking forward to next years adventures.
Thanks and thanks for watching 👍
o bopught my 1976 tr 6 brand new i still have it i love it. over the years it has had the normal new paint new interior new soft top. i also bought mine with the hard top. this year i rebuilt the suspension for the 3 rd time. lol all the latest and greatest lol the engine is no longer stock race cams weber carbs but i have driven that old car from here in washington state to the east coast more than once.. it is a blast to drive. i also installed electric power steering, as far as seat go the original ones suck. he is right. i had mine rebuilt and they are great. i take my german shepard with me she loves it.. roll bar. i have had no rust issues but i keep it in a climate controlled garage. i dunno my heater works fine. but i rarely drive it in the winter. they do not do well in the snow and ice. lol i love my old girl, i treat her good een has a heated car cover. and one major plus is no damn computers
Thanks for watching
Congratulations!
Thank you Emma!
Thankyou Emma!
Great results.
Thankyou Ralph!
Congrats on the Southern championship. Looking forward to the next challenge. 👍🍾🏆
Thankyou Robert.
Congratulations Martin on the Southern championship. Hopefully I’ll be out for more rounds next year.
Thankyou. Yes will try and get out a bit more next year
Greatings from France 🇫🇷
Bonjour. merci d'avoir regarde
Another cracking video. Congrats on the result. Interested to see where you came in the national championship.
Thanks Ben. As id only done 6 and not 8 i ended up about 17th overall nationally.
I uses to have a really nice 128hp 1380 mini, shame the transmission took the engine out. I am now thinking building a nice midget to autocross, how do you like racing yours?
wicked cars! i think the trick is really getting the suspension setup well to do what you want then even being down on a bit of power you get to experience what these cars will really do and the grin that goes with it
@mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349 I used to work on classic British cars, and midgets were definitely my favorite to drive on the street
Bit weird when the image was reversed and the number plate was backwards and suddenly the RHD drive car was LHD!
yeah. worked out how to mirror reverse the iphone camera now so later video dont do this
Had two TR6's back in the 70's, both CP versions, sadly neither of them still around today. My first, VDB 443K rusted out completley in less than 6 years. The second, WAK 519K lasted a lot longer as with experience you know where to rust proof (it was a really low mileage car when I bought it). I still love them to this day and yours looksa really good example, especially the shut lines, a credit to you. However, I changed direction and found that they can never match up with the finest British sports car ever produced, made from March 1964 to March 1973. Take a bow the Lotus Elan. Great videos, I look back with nostaglia and really fond memories.... thanks Mark
thanks for the memories Mark and thanks for watching
No problem to adjust the metering on a PI car, as long as the metering unit is set up correctly for the vacuum your car delivers with a specific cam. At least the ramp angle set up behind the rectangular plastic cover has to be set up right and the vacuum springs has to be correct for the cam, which you better leave to specialists. As long as this is set up right, the adjustment on the top metering screw package can be done by yourself as long as a Lamda-Sensor with AFR gauge is installed. So, you can adjust the fuel mixture by a different procedure compared to carbs, but as soon as you know what does what, it is even simpler and much easier to adjust fuel mixture than on carbs with different needles and springs to try out.
great advice. thanks
I can give you a million and a half reasons why I loved my 6
Yep, loads of reasons to love these great cars. The list is long . Thanks for watching
Hi. Can you tell me where you got the lowered springs from. Thanks
You can get them from Peter may engineering 👍
They weren't built for Winters. A friend bought a TR6 as a his very first brand new car. Shortly after the very short warranty expired and a couple of New England winters the frame snapped in half. Weird it was looking at a fairly new car sagging behind the doors and touching the ground. He could not afford the repair and his hard earned good credit was ruined. I bought a 240z.
Thanks for watching
I´ve come to nr 6. I´m enjoying every minute of it. I was a proud owner of a 1959 11 year old MGA "in my time" for a few years. Hoow I miss that car... I love watching theeese vintage car videos. Thanks for good work... at nr 7 now 🙂
Glad you’re enjoying them. Thanks for watching
Start first time wow
Well not strictly first time but it didn’t need much to get it to run. It did take time to settle down though and run right
You are a very clever guy
Thankyou and thanks for watching
I just bought a TR6 and haven’t brought it home yet. 1974 so apparently it has overdrive. Super cool
Overdrive is brilliant 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, just wait till you try taking gate and the esses in the wet! then Wiscombe gets really interesting. Hopefully see you at Combe
Thanks Ian, yes i can see how it might focus the mind somewhat...... maybe next year :-)
My first sports car was a nearly new (1980) MG Midget - it was only 3 years old and it was fun. Many years later I bought a very old TR6 and it had issues, but it was nearly 20 years old but it was double the fun. I have also owned a TR3A and several Series II Land-rovers. Equally fun. Never made money on any Classic Car. I'm sorry you're obsessed with money and have forgotten about the fun factor. Classic cars just don't seem to be your thing?
yep, money is only one factor and as you say not the overriding one with classic cars. you have to have a love of mechanics, spanners and problem solving to really enjoy what classic cars have to offer, oh year and the driving is fun aswell. thanks for watching
You forgot the weak differentioal mounting .
Very true. Thanks for watching
I was on start that day ☺️ and started you off ☺️ we also help keep Wiscombe as it is. A good weekend had by all 😉 even the TR’s It’s the Wiscombe Wimps that look after the day and the hill over the year.
Thankyou for all your help on the day and to all the wiscombe wimps . It really is a great venue and a true credit to you all . Thanks for watching
Which seats are in your lovely tr6?
They are mark 1 Mazda mx5 (Miata) seats
A TR6 would be great with the SD1 2600 OHC
Very true 👍
A re-uploaded video?
Yes. Updated. Had to sort out a copyright issue 🤦🏻♂️
Background music loud enough?
LOL, yes learnt that along time ago. for around 18 months videos dont have music
I have been a long-time owner of TR6s. They are the only classics for me. Your analysis is good. And even thinking about the reasons not to like a TR6 there are plenty of similar reasons not to buy other classics. Look after it and it will look after you.
thanks for watching
I ordered one today but I went for a smaller size one. Next job poly bushes
good luck. thanks for watching
Hi I've got my metering unit away and have decided to copy your idea if you don't mind and also put a baffle plate in the alloy rocker cover. The only thing is my catch tank won't be as fancy as yours a credit to you. Regards Kevin
All the best. Mine came off eBay and wasn’t particularly expensive
