lol, it's just a cheap $100 prop violin that's in the video. Layne's real (and very pricy lol) violin is safely at home for recordings 😄😄 as for the weird sound during the violin solo, that was Layne doing an inhale "woah" sound. Cesar is 34, he was born in 1990.
My understanding is that it took Layne a number of tries to successfully catch the violin and bow, so yeah, not going to do that with an expensive instrument.
Third base. Love it!! The noise was Layne on his beatbox recorded segment. They tried having him continue the beatboxing while he was playing the violin but it did not look good. He did that in the first cover they did with him on the violin, but it didn't work this time. They tried tossing the violin to him probably a dozen times. It was not Layne's "real" violin, but a cheap one. But, it was the only one they had on set, so they couldn't risk breaking it. They never could get it to work, so instead Layne held it, tossed it back to the handlers, then reversed the recording. Geoff and Layne were born in 1980, Cesar in 1990 (I think), J about the same time. I think Eli is a year or two older than Geoff and Layne.
This is my favourite Geoff arrangement. Fantastic version of the song. I think it was very ambitious to try and do this a capella, but Geoff nailed it. Very nice that they wore black (a nod to the "Black" album) - Eli also did the lighting - because they obviously do almost everything themselves being fully independent and all that! They did the entire intro to the song a capella too - which was also a risk, but personally I thought they did a great job. To the lady(?) that kept harping on about you having to do this one - Thank you 😉. A tough crowd this! 🌹🕊
Thank you guys. I always appreciate you doing VP. I did feel, at times, not everyone was totally engaged in the reaction but I still love you. At other times, the attention was palpable. This is one of my favourites by them.
This was the piece that Chicago and friends saw and prompted them to ask Voiceplay to sing in concert with them. Thought I’d throw it out there. Also I’d say an understatement of simplicity in the complexity of the arrangement lol, if that makes sense. This video is also where Layne got his nickname Violayne.
This one's tied with Hoist the Colours for my favorite VoicePlay cover. I've seen a lot of reactions to it, and it's not uncommon for folks to be apprehensive going in and perhaps need to warm up to it as they go along, but by the run up to the violin solo nearly everyone is won over. I love the respect they showed the original in the music itself, their serious treatment of it and the visuals calling back to the Black Album.
I love the original so I was worried I wouldn't be able to process this one but I loved it right away! So many cool things we're going on and having VioLayne make his appearance just put it over the top for me! Really enjoyed watching y'all for this one!! ❤
Cesar has said that he likes that the other members are older because he's learning about music before his time. Geoff especially loves older music. They do like to challenge themselves with songs like this, Dream On, and In The Air Tonight. If they felt it didn't work, they would not put it out. It has happened at least once.
Another good one, guys! Glad you appreciated the respect they gave the original - the appearance of 'Violayne' threw sooo many other reactors! I think it was a genius arrangement, and Eli got to show off his 'rock' tenor! 🤘😄
I think a lot of people were bemused when this came out. But Voiceplay exceeded expectations. I may be wrong, but I believe it is one of their most successful videos. The one TINY problem I have with it, is not enough solo time for Cesar. But he was covering the background vocals big time! Plus, who doesn't love it when Violayne shows up? That reminds me, have you done their "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" yet? Oh shoot, a spoiler! Bad Dravengal! River Song is going to be so mad at me! (It's a Doctor Who thing.) 💙
@@weaintraisedrightpodcast Cool! "Allons-y!" I believe you'll enjoy Lion, and I ain't lyin'! I think it's more proof Voiceplay needs their own show, like The Monkees. 💙
@@trishaurvan9439 I do too! SOOOOO MUCH! I suggested "Daydream Believer" when they were asking about shorts. That one still gets radio play. The other one people know is "I'm A Believer" since it was in Shrek. Though I think they should have used the original, personally. 💙
Overall, good reaction. This was a tricky song. It means a lot of things to a lot of people, and not always the same thing. I think it was a beautiful reimagining. Thank you for circling back over to Voiceplay. a lot of us found you because of them, so it’s nice to get our ticket punched on occasion.
I admit, as much as I adore Voiceplay, I was a bit nervous with this one when it came out. Shouldn't have been! I should have known they would knock it out of the park. I think part of the success of this arrangement is that they treated this song with such respect. They respected the original while putting their own spin on it and it really elevated it to something new. Great reaction, guys!
When Geoff isn't actually singing lyrics, he spends the song pretending he's a bass guitar - except when he occasionally forgets just how low a bass can go, and drops down below it's range!
I of course enjoyed your reaction to Voiceplay (like always) and im so glad that you all enjoyed it. But the four of you are a great group of goof balls and you had me cracking up towards the end of this video, y'all are great
lol, no, Layne did NOT catch that thing on the first try. The BTS is hysterical; he spent like an hour trying to catch that silly thing, and it hit the ground hard more times than it didn’t.
Funny thing is, Layne actually threw the violin and bow to 2 people to the side and then Geoff reversed the film. The violin is his cheap $100 violin. He has several beautiful more expensive violins at home. This video was given a new genre.... Metallicapella.
When I was younger, I didn't like Metallica. Maybe I didn't like Hetfield's voice. But after hearing this one by VoicePlay, I listened to some Metallica again, and I didn't reject it any more than I did 40 years ago.

Great job guys. Now it's time for Voice Play "Carry on My Wayward Son."
When watching that one, I have to remind myself it's Layne and not real drums...over and over! Jared and Jensen would love it! 💙
Layne's "drums" are incredible!
When you do get to that one, keep in mind the irony of Eli having the line: Though my mind could think, I still was a mad man
@@weaintraisedrightpodcast Truly. Also his sleigh bells! 💙
That just seems impossible. Yet we heard them anyway

I was under the impression that VioLayne got that name after Warriors. I think he had it before this was made.
@@christinestromberg4057 I think you're right. haha for some reason I thought I had seen that Violayne comment in nothing else matters. 🤣🤣🤣

One of their most beautiful songs. I loved every bit of it from the first to the last note.

This is such a great song and VP just slays it! Thanks boys!!! A n d Katherine for "reminding" the boys. 😆😍🤘
I love this one ❤
I dare you to try to hear the original with anything BUT a violin solo.
Layne's throat noise indeed
I enjoyed this wasn’t sure how they were going to pull it off but it turned out great and hopefully you won’t get hit with a copyright strike
hahahaha Butcher hahaha Great reaction yall!
Appreciate it!!
Tony Wakim is who threw the violin ay Layne, VioLayne. He is a former member of the group and is Laynes business partner at Pattycake Studios.
LOL. Need to get Ogre off the stop button. AJ is funny as $hit. Thanks Guy!!
Yes, that qas Layne doing one of his famous inhale notes. He loves to pop them in randomly.
