My Blue Staff has never allowed me to cut his nails because he does it himself without knowing. Our neighbour has her Bullmastiff in her garden and so I purposefully take him near the door to the garden where they growl each other and in the process he grinds his nail on the road whilst I hold him back on leash.
Yeah, my Rottie growing up was the best dog I've ever had. Well socialised and loved everyone but unfortunately people did cross the road. She'd look so disappointed because she loved her vigorous rub downs. Edit: Butt scratches were her favourite.
I'm a dog walker, and one of my regulars was a pitbull who LOVED being pet and getting attention, especially from kids (he lived with several young kids). His little tail nub would wiggle so fast when people stopped to pet him, it was adorable! (His tail was docked for medical reasons after he got hit by a car. His ears were still nice and floppy) I have such a soft spot for big "guard dog" breeds because they're just so misunderstood, and are usually just big cuddle bugs. Odin wasn't actually that big, he only came up to my knees. He'd get so excited to see me that he'd nearly fall down the stairs getting out the door. Sweet boy.
The groomer is great: quick, sure-handed, and plenty of praise to encourage the desired behavior. She really knew that Binky was nervous and she made it as painless as possible for the big doggie. Great job!
@@lh6784 The only Rotties I've come across that I would consider dangerous were those who were used as guard dogs. a growl from a dog shouldn't be ignored no matter the size a smaller bite is still a bite it may deal a smaller damage, but in term of canine behavior is just as bad
@Dawn Michelle EXACTLY. A growl almost always is a warning that a bite is IMMINENT! Never ignore that ever!. Be prepared to defend yourself with whatever means are necessary, even a small dog can cause a bite which might sever an artery that WILL kill you because you bleed out quickly.
@@nimeryaspawnbrd1049 You especially don't wanna be bitten by a rottweiler, though. Their jaw is strong and their mouth and teeth are very big. She seemed well aware of this, haha! "I don't wanna be bitten by a rottweiler" But yeah, any dog bite is bad. Even chihuahuas can hurt.

Yes they are but if they're scared or don't want something and start to growl, it's nothing to joke with. Because of their strength they can be truly demolishing if you don't handle them right and they snap!
Our cane corso is 155 lbs, his groomer is 105 lbs, it's always an adventure for her. He doesn't growl or threaten her, but he WILL lay down and absolutely refuse to move when he gets upset.
I had 5 Rotties over the years as a kid growing up in South Africa, so soft and lovable, until someone tries to hurt a member of their family, then you see the other side... Binky is such a hamsome booi!!!
Ya regardless of what Cesar methods say.. being gentle and kind to them when they are making a fuss is actually the better approach than the Alpha BS. Too many Groomers get too into his methods and his methods are greatly outdated and meant for training police dogs in WW2 Germany. They are not how you treat pets and only make their behavior worse, not better, and they create an antagonistic relationship with the pet. Kindness and gentleness is the best approach. They have no choice but to endure this experience, so we should make them feel as safe as possible.
If people like that were coming my dog they wouldn't be grooming my dog for long. I hate it when they scream at the dog instead of just giving thdn a treat or a gentle reassurance
Both animals and people rarely respond well to anger/negativity. Rewarding good behaviors is WAYYYYYYYY more effective than punishing bad in terms of changing behaviors.
I like how Binky doesn’t immediately bite, in fact, I’m not even sure if he was intending to bite at all. He was just trying to scare you off, not wanting to hurt you, but also not wanting his nails to be touched.
most dogs that immediately bite have already been punished for growling, so they skip that step. don't punish a dog for growling (or just about anything else for that matter). agression leads to... agression
@@taurusnl-NL True, many people dont understand being punished for growling teaches them to skip the step, making them a silent gun. Its a bad bad habit to build.
@@taurusnl-NL A well-trained dog will NEVER EVER bite someone or show any kind of aggression (which growling is). For a rottie, growling is just a way to communicate so it is ok in some cases. But any other dog must be trained to not show any behavior like this. Clearly you are from the US, you guys are just stupid when it comes to dogs...
This comment comes about 8 months late, but Rottweilers are one of the more reserved guard dogs out there. It is common for them to actually let intruders come into a guarded space, then refuse to let them leave the guarded space. I believe the vast majority of the hate on Rotties comes from the fact they are more quiet than most guard dogs, far less likely to bark. So people feel like they didnt get much warning before a violent outburst even though the rotty probably did plenty of rumbling growling and posturing beforehand. Rotties are very well-mannered dogs. They are not randomly aggressive, even if they are far more capable and willing to execute aggression than other breeds. Just a magnificent guard dog. Ive had several throughout my life and they have all been by far my favorites. Better than a golden, than a shaggy black mutt, than a lab/mastiff, or any of the dogs Ive dealt with that others owned. I dont know why people insist on clipping their tails, though.
Some rotties even rumble like that when they're happy. An old martial arts buddy had a sweet boy around the same size as Binky and if you scratched him the right way he would begin to sound like a cinderblock being dragged down a paved road while he puts more and more of his body weight against your fingertips.
Although I’m not a pet groomer, I do work with dogs at a daycare, and one of the things I do to pass the time + relax the dogs is brush them (but only if they’re comfortable with me doing it-I’m very observant of a dog’s behavior) & I was inspired by the tools you use, so I ordered myself an undercoat rake & equigroomer (*update: they’ll be here tonight!) so I guess I wanna thank you for the product recommendations! :)
Binky got a lot of positive verbal gratification for tolerating the nail clipping, AND extensive butt-scratches, PLUS a treat => Girl with the Dogs MUST get a thumbs up for that !!!
My housemates rottie would growl like crazy when he was happy, especially if he was getting a good scratch. Was really confusing at first, if you stopped he would instantly lick you and try to get his head back under your hands. I miss that big spaz.
i swear its their version of purring. like i really swear all rotties do this. it's like how huskies yell all the time. it's part of the personality! :)
@@reinaelizabeth9431 dogs dont purr. The rottweiler rumble isnt a behaviour that should be encouraged because it can be confusing and set the dog up to fail. furthermore, most people, ESPECIALLY rottweiler people, dont actually know how to tell a rumble from a growl. If there is ANY indication of aggressive cues like bared teeth, wide eyes, stiffness, and lip licking, that IS NOT a rumble. it IS a growl. Ive seen too many damn idiots talking about rOtTwEilEr PuRr get themselves or their friends and family sent to the ER because they ASSURED them CONSTANTLY to ignore the dog's obvious warnings. rottweilers are very vocal and expressive dogs, but they don't take no shit. they WILL emphatically let you know the second you cross a boundary, and confusing that for a "purr" could be the worst mistake you ever make.

I miss my Rottie, Buddy. And he didn't like his nails being clipped either. My husband would hold his head even with the muzzle on, while I did his nails. He loved taking a bath, getting brushed, the whole thing- until I started on his nails. I had a theory that because their feet have to hold up a lot of muscle and a head as big as a 25lb Thanksgiving turkey, that their feet are very sensitive. He didn't mind the Dremel as much on them, as long as he was pet at the same time, but when I got to the back nails, Mr Hyde showed up. He never bit me or anyone, and even him growling at me was something he only did with his nail cutting, so I did what I could to hurry, not wanting to tempt fate. And after I was finished with his grooming, he would whine and lick me to death, like he felt bad for growling! I raised him to be a big sweet ball of mush, never once trained him to protect or anything like that. He was my little helper, my Nurse Buddy I used to call him, because I used to lean on him to get up from a chair sometimes, as my body was and still is riddled with arthritis. He was also well socialized, as we had people stopping by our house all the time. He did scare the UPS guy, because he DIDN'T bark at him. My white Shepard barked at him, but my Rottie would just stare at him and watch him. The UPS guy said that scared him more than barking; he said having a 135lb creature just stare at you was really unnerving! But one thing we discovered was that we couldn't take Buddy in the car with us because if my husband got out and went into a store, Buddy would go into a red zone ready to protect me from all the people parked near us who were getting in their cars. He never did it at home, just in the car. It was a sight to behold, but also terrifying that this was just his protective nature at work and not training. (I could see why the Romans used Rotties in battle!) He was such a fun, wonderful dog and I miss him every day♡
My rotti loved bath time... I say bath and he go jump in and take a relaxed lay in the bath waiting for the water, but then I did start him early with bath as he made a mess the first day we got him so he needed it... Made me laugh when we took him to the vet, Vet said we can come back in a hour or two, we warned them he gets very nervous if I wasn't about, apparently he went all Picasso in his cage( Picasso == Does some painting with his No2.) they also had to give him a bath....
@@ntal5859 my guy was a big baby at the vet and would try to hide under the chairs! And he would shiver...but he never was aggressive or anything, he just wanted the usual- to escape. Some people were afraid of him because of his size, so we had to wait alone in the cat waiting area! Which was so funny to us because Buddy was in love with our calico cat. Tbey plated together, he "gave" her his bed, he used to lick her belly while she was laying on her back- it was adorable. We had other cats, but he loved her. Sometimes the other cats would whack his head if his huge noggin got too close to them and he would just sigh. He was a big goofball. He wasn't as "artistic" as yours, but then again, the vet never kept him, so who knows? He never got to explore much of his creative side, except for rearranging the furniture in the vet's waiting area!

My cousin's husband had a giant rottweiler. He was huge and he was not really fond of strangers. He looked just like binky. We watched him closely when we went to his shop to get some mechanic work done to our car and noticed his grandchildren laying on top of the dog sleeping with the dog just laying there happy as a lark. He warned us not to go near those kids because he would become very aggressive. Those were his babies!!
my dogo carnario mix even guards strangers' toddlers. it's usually not a problem because he is happy just watching them play from a distance, but if the child cries, he will push himself between the crying child and the caretakers. If he thinks they're in distress he doesn't let anyone approach his newly acquired human puppies except his own family. we call him away then, but it can be a bit of an issue, because while he is not loud or aggressive, I wouldn't vouch for him to not at least growl or warning bite if the person would still try to get close to the child....and even if he doesn't intend to hurt.... things should not escalate to a warning "air bite" with a dog like this. that's why if you got so protective dogs, you gotta always have an eye on them and make sure his interactions with people are safe for everyone.
When I was a kid we had a rotty that weighed in at an unrivaled 200 pounds of mini-bear sized dog. Purebred too which made his size a freak anomaly. Ill always remember the security that came with his presence. He weighed more than most adult men and for preteen and early teen me, was basically a horse. A lovely animal he was. Supremely kind to all animals on our ranch and lethal to intrusive pest animals. Snakes, coyotes, mountain lions, he'd confront them all.

I love the positive representation of breeds like this! They're all just big babies, and usually the "bad ones" are just raised by people who don't care and want to keep the aggressive stereotype
As a "bully dog" owner myself (Dobes and now Filas) you need the right dog for the right owner in the right place. No matter the dog breed, actually. I know someone who has a working dog as a "house dog" and it has caused serious damage because it isn't a couch potato and needs to work.
Unfortunately true. My neighbors got a pair of Rotty puppies less than two years ago and just yesterday one of them mauled a young girl and sent her to the hospital. The amount of neglegence for a dog that young to end up doing such a thing is deplorable.
It's like Binky was listening to Vanessa like "I'm not going to stand up," while also listening to the camera guy like "I am a cute, good boy." 😂😂 You can tell he was listening to both of them.
I suffer with depression and anxiety too. We recently got a Rottie, best thing ive ever done. Shes so sweet and playful. Shes so gentle and loves cuddles
It's almost a pre-requisite to have a sense of humour if you are a dog groomer ... or at least it helps. Great job with Binky. Your positive energy and confidence was obviously respected by Binky.
No, they just put up with it because they are such good people who want to love us and if it takes putting up wioth something they hate, they'll do it too. Dogs abandon their superior intelligence for the sake of our love. Doesn't give us the excuse to act like idiots. They smell sweet as dogs and don't need artiofoical detergenystys and scents like hominids to be beautiful. Dog groomers abuse them, tie them by the nexk to a hook, and treat them like things with no volition or preference. If they object the groomer sees it as being difficult. If I were a dog I would want to rip her hands off for assaulting me.
He's such a sweetheart! I love rotties. I remember when I was younger we ended up taking in a rottie due to his owner drinking and driving and wrecking his car down our street with the dog in the car. The dog (obviously terrified) wouldn't let the police near the car so my mom went over and retrieved him. He stayed with us for one night before family came to pick him up. His name was Reggie and he was such a sweet dog. Though our Lurcher was less than impressed!
Molosser-type dogs look scary and act serious because they're descended from ancient war dogs. Many of them also have herding or guard genes (rotties have both) that cause them to be suspicious of strangers and bossy towards weak owners. A lot of people are scared of dogs that don't instantly greet strangers with a show of friendliness; people come to assume that's how all dogs are supposed to act, but that's just their nature, not a sign of a bad temper.

My Blue Staff has never allowed me to cut his nails because he does it himself without knowing. Our neighbour has her Bullmastiff in her garden and so I purposefully take him near the door to the garden where they growl each other and in the process he grinds his nail on the road whilst I hold him back on leash.
LOOK AT HIM HE'S SO ADORABLE!!!
HOW CAN PEOPLE BE SCARED OF SUCH A CUTIE 💓
Yeah, my Rottie growing up was the best dog I've ever had. Well socialised and loved everyone but unfortunately people did cross the road. She'd look so disappointed because she loved her vigorous rub downs.
Edit: Butt scratches were her favourite.
I'm a dog walker, and one of my regulars was a pitbull who LOVED being pet and getting attention, especially from kids (he lived with several young kids). His little tail nub would wiggle so fast when people stopped to pet him, it was adorable! (His tail was docked for medical reasons after he got hit by a car. His ears were still nice and floppy)
I have such a soft spot for big "guard dog" breeds because they're just so misunderstood, and are usually just big cuddle bugs. Odin wasn't actually that big, he only came up to my knees. He'd get so excited to see me that he'd nearly fall down the stairs getting out the door. Sweet boy.
I’m convinced that everyone loves a butt scratch.

The only Rotties I've come across that I would consider dangerous were those who were used as guard dogs.
One of the rottweilers I know literally stops dead in her tracks and squeaks when she sees somebody she wants to get to know.
As long as they are well trained and socialized the only danger they pose is a fat one sitting on your foot!
It's gentle
I'm impressed you were able to dodge the daggers coming from that side eye while you clipped his nails! Binky is heckin adorable and seemed to thoroughly enjoy most of his spa day 🥰🥰
A growl from a rottweiler is not to be ignored, even from one as sweet as Binky! 😊❤️
a growl from a dog shouldn't be ignored no matter the size
a smaller bite is still a bite
it may deal a smaller damage, but in term of canine behavior is just as bad
@Dawn Michelle
EXACTLY.
"I don't wanna be bitten by a rottweiler"

A growl from any dog shouldn't be ignored.

Female Rottweilers are milder
Former Doberman owner here, dobbies are real jokers. Are Rottweiler's funny like that? somehow they seem to be moody.
Yes they are but if they're scared or don't want something and start to growl, it's nothing to joke with. Because of their strength they can be truly demolishing if you don't handle them right and they snap!

Answer: Anywhere he wants to, ANYTIME.
I call dogs like this meatball heads, but wow, Binky is an extra large meatball! He's practically a whole meatloaf!
All he needs is a ketchup topping
Whole buritto
Our cane corso is 155 lbs, his groomer is 105 lbs, it's always an adventure for her. He doesn't growl or threaten her, but he WILL lay down and absolutely refuse to move when he gets upset.

Binky is such a hamsome booi!!!

I think it’s nice that she reassures and rewards him after scolding him. Most groomers just yell at the dogs and then wonder why they won’t calm down
She loves animals.
@@zeldasmith6154 She's also very sovereign and a real dog person!
He was just trying to scare you off, not wanting to hurt you, but also not wanting his nails to be touched.
most dogs that immediately bite have already been punished for growling, so they skip that step. don't punish a dog for growling (or just about anything else for that matter). agression leads to... agression
Most animals don't like to use force unless all other methods fail.
@@taurusnl-NL
True, many people dont understand being punished for growling teaches them to skip the step, making them a silent gun.
That's his growl?! That dog sounds like rolling thunder! He's such a gorgeous and sweet rottie though lol, very well behaved despite his discomfort :)
Called the Rottie rumble for a reason 😂. Mine does this sometimes, and when I first heard it I thought he had something stuck in his throat!
Some rotties even rumble like that when they're happy. An old martial arts buddy had a sweet boy around the same size as Binky and if you scratched him the right way he would begin to sound like a cinderblock being dragged down a paved road while he puts more and more of his body weight against your fingertips.
@@Valp85 As a rottie owner i can confirm. The important thing is understanding dog body language
You should hear a rottweiler bark while you're in the room with them. Feels like getting hit in the chest. They can be loud.
Those undercoat rakes with double coated dogs are astounding. My chihuahua lost half his body mass when we tried it.

Yep. Our rottie does this. Scares the poor vet to death, but whenever you love on her, she makes what we call "happy bear noises." lol
It's called the rottie rumble. Almost like their version of purring its something I've only known rotties to do
@@reinaelizabeth9431 dogs dont purr.

It sounds like your rottweiler didn't respect you and knew that he was the boss.
Binky needs to be an official model for the happy hoodie as he looked adorable in it!

That was my rottie. We have a picture of my nephew in his footie pajamas laying across her belly and watching television.
Cute. I've been wanting a Rott for years however the situation doesn't yet warrant it.
my dogo carnario mix even guards strangers' toddlers.
it's usually not a problem because he is happy just watching them play from a distance, but if the child cries, he will push himself between the crying child and the caretakers.
Mine was the same way, if you weren't me or my wife, you weren't getting within arms reach of my daughters stroller.

As a "bully dog" owner myself (Dobes and now Filas) you need the right dog for the right owner in the right place. No matter the dog breed, actually. I know someone who has a working dog as a "house dog" and it has caused serious damage because it isn't a couch potato and needs to work.

I love how big dogs look so intimidating but they almost are always sweet
Molosser-type dogs look scary and act serious because they're descended from ancient war dogs. Many of them also have herding or guard genes (rotties have both) that cause them to be suspicious of strangers and bossy towards weak owners.
