Who_Tee_Who you know how much I love you but it is your trigger pull making you hit left on all of your shots. Knowing this you could easily adjust your sights so if you are under stress you won't have to think about trigger squeeze.
Personally, I've always been a fan of iron sights for EDC because they're reliable, don't require batteries, and don't have any electronic components that can fail. However, I can definitely see the advantages of a red dot in certain situations, such as low light or when you need to acquire your target quickly. It's great to see both options compared side by side like this. Ultimately, I think it comes down to personal preference and what works best for each individual's shooting style and needs.
Good stuff! I once had my TX LTC instructor ask us to promise we would carry wherever we possibly could. There was a shooting a a Lubys near us back in the 90s that, because the law made you keep your carry in your vehicle, many people senselessly died while their defense weapons were yards away.
I was skeptical of dots on pistols, so I bought a relatively inexpensive dot and a relatively inexpensive pistol with an optic cut. I fell in love with the dot, and now I’m about to have my carry gun cut for an EPS
I recently got my first red dot to put on my xd-s 45. Not quite used to it yet, but it definitely hits where the dot is pointed. Pretty good with irons on all of them, including this one, but the dot is something special. Just getting used to the draw and point is worth something, if the battery dies or you just don't have the optic on the gun at the time your muscle memory still knows where to go.
Always a good thing to shoot your EDC every once in a while. I do iron sights, i have a hard time with dots. My glasses seem to make it hard for me to use them.
I just recently got my first red dot ever. I like it a lot , it makes it easier to shoot more better. I'm not totally giving up on irons though. Irons AND red dots , I like 'em both.
@@aaron9129 I only have one and it's on my 10mm. They do help for those of us with old eyes trying to hit the sweet spot on a deer. It's a safe queen. As far as edc, yes, lint and failure are concerns. And I couldn't easily and rapidly transition between a pistol with and without. Nearly 50 yrs of open sights is hard to forget. :)
@@alexduke5402 Like I said, fine for hunting. I don't need to shoot any better with open sights as far as defensive distances go and under 7 yds, I practice not using the sights. Plus, I'll pass on the expense. I'd rather buy more ammo or use on my 7mm-08 AR build. :)
Good shooting, especially with the red dot. Never shot with red dot. I think I'll look into one, I'm just mediocre with a handgun, and it was always a rifle guy, but don't shoot much anymore. And it did seem you were really having a good time.
I've carried the same Block 19 since 2001. I've carried other guns, mostly Blocks. I like the 1911, I have 2, but I'd never want to carry one. I'd rather have my Block 21, or Block 30. I'd like to get a Gen 5 Block 21 MOS. T'would be Saaweet! God bless ya, and have a great day sir!

I started on stock Glock sights and became pretty proficient with them. But with a red dot, I can shoot much, much faster and accurate. Although, my EDC is a stock G43X with Ameriglo iron sight.
Pistol red dots need longer hoods to better protect the glass both from damage and from glare. That's been my biggest complaint. I've found pistols that naturally point well to be some of the best. I've got a P-38 that points nearly dead on naturally and it's easily the pistol I am most accurate with, particularly when moving.
I felt the same way….until I bought a optic cut slide and filled it with Wilson Combat parts. I don’t carry my 1911 but it’s my favorite target pistol. I shoot my Ruger Mark IV the most but only because it is cheaper to feed.
Hey WTW, I asked about the True Timber gear and forgot to ask…does it fit as labeled? I’m not 6’6” but I am 6’3” 250lbs. Do you get like 2X or 3X and/or 2XT or 3XT? Thanks for any feed back.
9mm and 357 is not that different in caliber. but generally different powder loads. i say this because of my 350 legend. i can reload 9mm but its a 357. they are very close
@@WHOTEEWHO I did. That place is awesome. They have the cva single shot. I only brought so much cash with. Might have to wait until I find it back home.
Tech is cool. Train for the tech. Get used to the tech. Get dependent on the tech. Die because your battery did. I'll pass. I trained myself out of the kisser button and peep sight on my bow for the exact same reason. If you don't train to the worst case scenario, well.. I guess it's on you.
Irons for me. With my kind of luck... the screws would shear off and I'd have the optic fly into my face at 200mph... all while being in a not good situation and needing to use it. I'll pass on extra stress. Maybe on a wheelgun.. but I'm not mounting my Holosun on my SP101 .357 anytime soon.
So, old soldier here. This is my opinion, backed by experience of training soldiers for more than a “couple” of years. You need the basic fundamentals first…with ANY weapon. Iron sights must be first to be learned. It enforces the basics of marksmanship. Once you can produce accurate and repeatable results you can graduate to optics of your choice. Point being, your stance, hand placement, trigger control, breathing, recoil control….I can go on for awhile, has already been mastered. Optics allow you to find your target with sights brought to bare faster. Now, God forbid your red dot fails. It won’t matter. Especially in this day and age of an EMP burst attack. Analog first folks. Never can go wrong. Stay safe and stay true.
Luminescent irons EDC for me. No batteries, easy to charge. Some night sights generate their own glow with chemical reaction. Red dots do give you a bigger sight picture, good for quick target acquisition and switching target's. But imo to bulky and cumbersome from added weight, needs to be charged by batteries or solar, gets dirtier way easier and is more difficult to clean. They make screens for debris but that's more weight and space. Simple glow iron set is easier to conceal and less likely to get snagged. I really only enjoy red dots on long guns, pdw, carbine. Interesting demonstration. 1911 GI sights are very tiny but you still hit at twenty with the first one a head shot, nice. 9mm always stable and red dot definitely keeps it on target. The g31 was surprisingly stable as well. Great shooting.
Which do you prefer? Today I head to the range and get some practice in with both on steel at 20 yards.

Red dots are fine for hunting and targets. Pass on edc.
Red dots are major lint collectors.

Pretty Kool enjoy the video
So what are the best sights short of getting a red dot? I put Kyle defoor sights on all my pistols a few years back.
Maybe do a video on best sights to upgrade 1911
Always good to shoot your carry gun. I try to at least once a month.

Dots for all pistols if you train enough. Enclosed for duty.

i really wish i could carry. but the uk gun laws are such it's 5 years for the pistol and 5 for the ammo. oh the joys of living in the uk.

Adam, have you ever shot a pistol with Bomar Sights. They're adjustable and fits on a 1911.

Your follow ups might be faster cuz of the RD....or because its a 9mm vs .45 acp and .357 Sig....just saying
Looks like red dot is the way to go. Do you have a discount code for us?
Yup

Irons for EDC.
