How the hell is he supposed to find your daughter if you're trying to fucking kill him?
Also that's absolutely amazing to see fucking _Don Bluth_ himself in a Nostalgia Critic video.
Also glad to see this not only got funded, but got funded more than twice over. That's awesome!
A better question is why didn't she go find her daughter herself? She's clearly capable XD
Yeah, the nostalgia critic has had a lot famous people on his vids.
+marjane zaaf Nostalgia Critic should review Brain Dead 13 someday.
Now he just needs Shyamalan, Stephen King, and Raja Gosnell.
It's official: Don Bluth just got a thousand times more awesome than he already was.
+Morgan Gobin Is that even possible?
+Unix One It is now. He made it possible. Because he's Don Bluth,
Lord Cottington No words...
Morgan Gobin Ha! Untitled Dragon's Layer film (wouldn't it be called Dragon's Layer?)
+Unix One What? No. It's Dragon's Lair.
You think that's bad... Back in the day, we had to learn all the moves one quarter at a time...
Johnny Rasputin All the arcades near me made us get tokens from those godawful change machines that never worked properly.
More like two quarters at a time.
This was the first game to require more than one quarter to play.
We were freaking lucky if we had enough money to play it for 3-5 minutes! I went into arcades with enough money to play for an hour or 2 cause my mom worked at a casino and didn't have babysitters so yeah we got like 5 bucks to go to the arcade till she was off. Back then 5 bucks could last more then the entire time depending on what we played. But oh no not Dragons Lair! It cost 50 cents a game and you had 3 lives and those were gone after about 30 seconds. So yeah !!!!
I’m was born in 2005 and I didn’t have a console so I had to go to the arcade
That must have Been frustrating. And eventually expensive.
*I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT YOU GOT THE ACTUAL DON BLUTH!* 😱😱😱😱
IKR?!?!?!?! *I'M IMPRESSED!*

@@LonePhantom756 yeah! It really boggles my mind that he hasn't reached his crowdfunding goal yet!
I am just amazed the man is still alive after all these years.
He really should still be making movies.

Takes a *long* time for Gods to perish.
Imagine if in theaters you had to play along with a controller.
Ernest Ankrom that would be cool
Well, *gasp* Switch interactive movie?
"Gosh darn it Tim. Stop eating popcorn and help us with the final boss."
Actually, I've heard some arcades used theaters to see people play the game when it got popular.
PixelaGames2000 yeah
Came back here after hearing Ryan Reynolds was going to star in a netflix adaption
I didn’t know! I just looked it up! Super excited!!!
But.. but.. we wanted it animated

After he threw the directors of the first two Deadpool movies under a bus...

after this Don Bluth crossover, I truly hope for a review of a Cage film with Cage guest starring.
Well, he got Dante Bosco
+Dejay Page He's cool and all, but he's not the Cage-Man.
+Daniel “Hero's Apprentice's Brick” Scharn I know you mean Nick Cage, but I want DAVID Cage.
+Korick Armstrong (Paladin) why not both? just for shits and goliggles.
+Daniel “Hero's Apprentice's Brick” Scharn Review Con Air, easy.
No Malcolms or Tamaras were harmed in the making of this commercial.
Or Africas, don't forget that
+Swedish Gabber Nojje No... Africa is dead... Sorry.
+Swedish Gabber Nojje Are you sure? Cause I live in Africa and I'm dead now
+Kimani Wilson-Hunte Honestly, I could watch Malcolm and Tamara get decapitated by Randy Savage and Segata all day!
Tyler Rakstis I don't think it's a problem for someone to believe in a good cause and something he or she loves or would personally like to see. Someone with a voice doesn't have to completely disregard themselves, and just because someone is popular on the internet does not mean that they're a millionaire.
True, Bluth hasn't done anything in a long time, but people still know his name. A ton of people love The Secret of Nimh, The Land Before Time, and his other stuff, and, yes, unfortunately, even A Troll in Central Park. He's inspired many other animators and film makers. He's not just a legend because of what he himself has done directly, but because of the effect he has had on the film and animation industry as a whole.
In a live action version, I’d love to cast Bruce Campbell as Dirk.
And also, this game was the 90's version of Cuphead.
Yep

80's actually, believe it or not.
It has been 7 years since this video was released on UA-cam. Definitely a terrible shame that the kickstarter didn’t work out. Certainly a wonderful creative idea at the time though! You always get very amazing guests to appear on your channel! Definitely a very special Crittic episode!
Yeah man
I thought they made their goal
🤨 why didn’t the movie get made?
@@randalgraves6979 The kickstarter initially failed. However, it did succeed it's goal eventually by nearly double.
Now it appears to be in production - with little being talked about it. It seems they got Ryan Remolds but it might also include some Live-Action element into it. They negotiated with Netflix looking for anyone else to produce it. So hopefully this ends up being a half-and half

Any chance we'll see Space Ace, or a cameo of them at least?
I wish NC wore his Donut T-shirt within his usual suit for this review.
I was going to make a comment referencing a space ace reference, but it get lost in all the other comments.
pharaohyami5000 i
Princess Daphne is incredibly attractive.
Wow, it's the man himself. Very cool to see him in a Critic episode.
Ikr
Agreed! He's a living legend (that'll be Don Bluth people i'm referring to).
My top favorite 5 Don Bluth films:
5. Rock a Doodle
4. The Secret of NIMH (considered his magnum opus)
3. All Dogs Go to Heaven
2. An American Tail
1. The Land Before Time (The late James Horner's music is so memorable)
I must admit, when I was a kid, I did watch his bad movies like "A Troll in Central Park" and "The Pebble and the Penguin", but, like I said, I was a kid and I didn't know they were THAT bad until I was older. Before the 90s, Don made awesome art of animation with all the dark elements in them, but when he started going to less scary, they couldn't even rival the Disney Renaissance films of 90s.
darthstarkiller1912 You must have forgot to add; Anastasia. That film was incredibly crafted. Beautifully animated and well done as one of th elate few truly features before CG films took over and 2D cell drawn North American animation took a deep dive in profits at the box office.
And agreed, the man is a master craftsman at the scary animated films, akin to what the late Jim Henson said. Its not healthy to not scare kids thy must understand the fears and tragedies of the world both good and bad, by seeing some of its evils or ills first hand, even in fictional tales in movies etc. Don Bluth accomplished what Disney's truly forgotten about decades ago (if only Black Cauldron was a hit for Disney instead of a failure back in 1985) with his darker movies. Anastasia and The Secret Of NIMH.
To be honest, I've actually never seen it.
"You're like the shaming disapproval of every morbid grandparent!" That's one of my favorites! XD
This video is an historic document about the creation of some of the best games made in the 80's.
It's just unforgettable.
Macho Man Randy Savage and Segata Sanshiro are helping promote a Dragon's Lair movie?
Never thought I would have to say that sentence.
Buts it's a pretty amazing sentence
Daniel Eggers Did I ever say it wasn't? XD
John Doe Oh Crap.
That was a typo.
+John Doe People still pronounce it as "Segata" it's not really that big a deal mate.
This is probably the best skit they've made
So, in other words, this was Quick Time Event The Game, except you had no idea what to do.
Before Quick Time events were overplayed and was incredibly new tech, yes XD

EpicMiBz!! Heaven
What if Don Bluth did a Ghost in the Shell movie?
Their styles are way too different. Miyazaki likes warm pastures, magical childhoods, and gentle forests--Bluth likes dark palletes, skeletons, and overly cute sidekicks. I couldn't see them finding enough common ground to even get started (though both are amazing in their own ways.)
WHATS THE SONG AT 1:53
I NEED TO KNOW DANGIT
I was thinking about this review the other day, wondering if the pitch was ever completed. Turns out, it was, and the movie is now in pre-production. I just don't know which studio picked it up.
Oh my fucking Santa Christ! I'd be ecstatic to see another Don Bluth Movie, especially about Dragons Lair! Please oh please let it be traditionally animated and not 3D!

+Xsore Well I kind of like 3D Animation films. But it's my opinion.
I don't know how a Dragon's Lair movie would play out, but I'd do anything for a high quality traditionally animated film these days, and there's no way they can screw it up when Don Bluth, of all people, is in charge.
I usually don't contribute to crowdfunds, but I am so contributing to this one.
Studio Ghibli.
Willie Wonker True, true. The Wind Rises was excellent.

they didnt make it hard because they wanted it to be challenging.
they wanted quarters.
and they got them :/
absolutely right
This also covers why a lot of NES games were so difficult. The devs were used to making hard games on purpose for arcades
+MysteriousStranger50 Holy fairies in a bottle
I like that it seemed the sequel was a quarter-stealer but in a different approach. It seems people could get to the end more easier than the first but what drove them to play it again and again was getting the treasures that were fairly difficult to find (and of course the tough finale too)!
MysteriousStranger50 My God,this was one heck of an annoying senseless drivel by a delusional shill.
No,by your own definition the soul games are indeed 'hard'.Super meat boy is 'challenging'.Ninja Gaiden is 'challenging'.Devil may cry 3(the original one for americans) is challenging. They require actual skills.Souls games don't.
What soul games require is patience to endure tediousness and nothing else.
You need LUCK to get past bullshit badly designed, badly optimized areas like blightown.Dont delude yourself, there's no actual reasonable logic to places like those.Memorization is the key

When Dragon's Lair came out, I spent $40 in quarters playing it.
$40. In 1983. That's $90 in today's money.
And I still couldn't finish the game. That took more even money.
When Space Ace came out, I cheated, and took notes while watching someone else play the game.
I believe I managed to finish the game with less than $20 of quarters.

When that girl said “dragon’s lair” it kinda sounded like she was saying “dragon slayer” (which is also an actual game, but not the one you’re trying to refer to).

Having the arrows is NOT cheating. You're still stuck having to deal with the random sequences as nearly split second level twitch button presses required. All that did with the arrows (basically making it a QTE game) made it approachable for a vast larger audience that doesn't have a photographic memory for all the moves. I appreciated the Wii game with the arrows and it still is crazy hard to play.

No, it is an arcade extended Quick-Time Event
No Dragons Lair is like Dark Souls; except that it kills you 100 times over, with anal fisting with guntlets, and takes your soul. If you play this game and try to finish, it would take all of your tears, sweat, and blood drinks it then throws it up and then drinks it again. Then it takes your soul for dessert and captures your brain of any thought making your whole body a whoopie cushion. I played Dark Souls and this game ...... It's very different.

Of course, while the arcade was closed I was free to play any of the games as I wanted. So obviously I played it. It took a lot of lives to get through it.

That ain't no BS. I never got to actually play it, only watch others play it. There was always a mob scene around the machine, and I was WAY to uncool to get a chance to play it. The story of my life, pretty much! lol

That specific scream reminded me of Judge Doom from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
