Colin wanted to restore the front of his 2009 caravan to its original gleaming state. We use the 3M cutting compound and wax that colin purchased from the internet, the results were fantastic!

Yes I love cleaning mine...a lot..sad but I have a pile of rags ..enough to fill a large black bag..
A few tips I've picked up from the trade, and experimented my self.
* Any marks or scratches to the interior wood..fill in using wood workers coloured matched wax crayons. Or felt tip pen..
* The trade use shampoo to wash caravans, gives a good finish.
* Use toothpaste and water to remove scratches from Windows.
* Purchase white body filler for filling in crazed body work in GRP
* Don't be afraid to respray white GRP and over spray with laquer.
* Bobby dazzler gives a good finish
* Use clean rain water! No marks.
*Keep van under cover in a barn...no water marks, maintains van looking younger.
* Blacken your tyres and mudguards
Some top tips there, thanks for sharing 😊 like the toothpaste and water to remove window scratches, will be trying that one. Cheers Martin 😊
Hi Martin & Colin. What a great product. Nice one Colin. Also nice to finally see Colin after all this time. He has been commenting on my videos for quite a while. Well done Colin. Oh yeah and Martin 😂. This might be on the shopping list. Thanks both of you. Phil 👍👍🙂
Hi Phil, yes the 3M stuff works a treat. Colin did say he subs to your channel and enjoyed watching your vids 🙂 I’ve tried to convince Colin to join Twitter, come on Colin 🙂🙂 Thanks for the support as always 🙂
Hi
that looks great.
just remember that what you are using is a cutting compound ,each time you use it you are removing gel coat /paint so don,t use it all the time . the van will also need to waxed /sealed as it is not a finish /sealant
Hi Stephen, The 3M did a great job. Thanks for the extra info. Thanks for watching, Martin 😊
Thanks for pointing that out, the van was treated to Autoglym Super Resin polish and Extra Gloss Protection. It beads wonderfully.
It certainly made a bid difference. It's just the sort of thing my 11 year-old Bailey could do with.. I presume it's ok for use on all types of Caravan body shells, Aluminium etc. By some of the early comments you could have a business opportunity travelling the country restoring our caravans :) Ian
Hi Ian, I would check on that as it’s a gelcoat wax. There is a link to the 3M site on the description. It worked great on the front of the van. Thanks for comments and watching. Martin 😊
What a difference, great product review. Thank you for sharing. Cheers Stuart and Rebecca.
Hi, yes it made a great difference. Brought the shine back! Thanks for comments and watching. Martin 😊
Wow! Outstanding finish there, I love a bit of 3M cutting compound, I keep a bottle handy too but will look out for that one when it runs out. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Yes good stuff Aaron, never seen it before but impressed with it. Thanks for watching, Martin 😊
Great result from a great product. Well done guys ;))
Cheers Stew, the 3M did a great job. Thanks for watching Martin 😊
Well done lads.looks a good product. Thanks for sharing 👍
Hi Paul, yes the 3M worked really well. A good product, Thanks for watching 🙂
Yet another great vlog Martin well done
Thanks Andrew, there difference was remarkable. Cheers Martin 😊
Really good vlog Martin and a product worth knowing about. I dont need it yet, but sometime in the future...
Thanks John, we were impressed with the results. Thanks for watching, Martin 😊
A big thank you, to you Martin & Colin.
You have inspired me to have a go with the 3M product on my 2007 Ace jubilee aristocratic.
The front panel & roof were the worst!
Also have used the autoglym super resin polish, which has brought the van back to life !
The sides were heavily oxidised, now looking super shiny!
Loving the Chanel thanks Steve
Hi Steve, thanks for your kind words and comments. The 3M video was all Colin’s idea and the product worked a treat.
I’m glad you have got your van back to life, it’s great when you can stand back look at it and feel proud.
Thanks again for your support, Martin 😊
Even on the video you could really see the difference, good video and a great product
Hi Graham, yes you could definitely see the difference, great product. Thanks for watching 😊
Hi Martin \Colin it looks like a good product i just cleaned my van using diamond brite got it from ebay about £9 for three bottles of no 1 and three no 2 total
i the bought a clay mitt (£9)and followed the instructions it was a great finish so i done the roof of the caravan as well had only used half of what i bought so i cleaned my car and my daughters great finish on all (no i am not super human caravan was one week end and the cars later that week) enjoyed the video and watching you do some work last time you left Phil (lost weekends) do the work while you filmed him HA Ha
Hi Dave, I haven’t seen much about the Diamond bright, will have to do some research. I have heard it’s good stuff. I will be doing more filming with Phil soon hopefully, I will be doing most of the work as usual! Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 😊
We had the same issue with our previous van, the front pillars were very dull. I never managed to find anything to help. That looks a good product.
BTW now you've set a precedent. I guess by now you're cleaning service is pretty booked up. If you want to open a Southern franchise......
Thanks for sharing, really useful vlog.. Graham
Hi Graham, this stuff worked well, really impressed with it. Thanks for continued support, Martin 😊
Cheers for the video guys, have the same problem with the front of mine at the moment so will purchase some of this asap
Hope you will be as pleased with it as Colin was. Thanks for watching 😊
That looks really effective Martin, will have to suggest it to Joe as he was complaining about loss of shine on GRP panels. Thanks Colin & Martin, great work !! 😄👍🏻 Trev
We were really impressed with the results Trev. I think It would work for Joe. Thanks for your support Martin & Colin 😊
Good stuff that 3m. I use autosmart evo plus or 6. Theirs a pack of sponge applicators you can use along with this product. It saves polish which will make it last even longer.
Great Video. Looks incredibly clean and well looked afte.
Hi Jon, yes Colin has a very clean van! We were very impressed with the job it did. Thanks for comments and watching 😊
Great video folks. I work at a caravan dealership renovating their trade ins and use medium cut compound on tired caravan gelcoat and paint work. It really is fantastic kit and also great for getting scratches out on windows too. 👍
Hi Dave, yes we were really impressed with the difference and it wasn’t too much hard work. I’ve heard about using it on windows. What do you use on GRP panels? Thanks for watching, Martin 😊
@@TheCaravanNut I use compound on grp, but only apply with hand as to much heat from a buffer can buckle and damage the grp. 👍
Cheers for the info 🙂
Another great video Martin! - another double act with Colin this time
(I’m sure he didn’t just want a hand cleaning the front of his van ! )...
Colin’s van looks great ! - well done both of you
Yet another watch that’s going to get my hand in my pocket !
Keep up the good work and let’s see more guest appearances 👍🏻
Hi Howard, No Colin didn’t just want a hand, he came up with the idea. The 3M did a great job on Colin’s van. Hopefully there will be more guests appearances, better than looking at my ugly mug all the time 😂 Thanks for support, Martin 😊
The Caravan Nut Will deff give it a try , my van is a 2011 Sterling Celebration 550 and identical to Colins and same problem with dull finish 👍🏻
Let me know how you get on with it 😊
Cheers for this. Must admit I'd not heard of that one before. Have previously used Autoglym which was good, but the last one we bought was Mer and that seemed to lack the shine of Autoglym. You can test it on Patsy this weekend if you like.....😉
Hi Rich, I hadn’t heard of it until Colin told me about it. Did a great job and looked fantastic. Thanks for the support 😊
After using Autoglym super resin polish with mediocre results, tried this yesterday and wow. Changed dulled and matt finished GRP sides and ABS front panels on our 2006 Abbey dramatically. They're now shiny with a real silky feel and didn't need a bucket full of elbow grease either. Nice one gents 🙂 Martin & Jo.
It’s a great product, I was really impressed with the results. Glad we tried it on Colin’s van first though 😂 cheers Martin 😊
Looks fantastic great job lads, wouldn't recommend using it on the side panels think it's too harsh for the thin cover of paint.
But great for GPS fibre glass panel, have used this for stainless sink and some cookers tops.
Wonder if it would be good on plastic sinks and showers?
You could hear it cutting through, yes wouldn’t use it on side panels stick to Autoglym and Fenwicks for that. Will contact Colin and see what else he’s used it on. Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 😊
I treated our caravan with Diamondbrite. It's supposed to eliminate the need for polishing. It's been on for a year now and the van is still looking nice and shiny. But to be honest, I miss polishing it. I find it quite therapeutic.
Yes there is something very relaxing and therapeutic about polishing your caravan, not to forget the sense of achievement when you have finished. Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 😊
I really thought the results were great and a big improvement , I’m using autoglym at the present and don’t have any issues but the van is quiet new , so at the moment is keeping its shine but I would imagine with age in the future this product would be very helpful , last few times I’ve cleaned it on pitch ! Does anyone else do this ? Or am I mad ? Thanks Martin have a good time at Twitter camp Gavin
Hi Gavin, I use autoglym on the van, it’s good stuff. I also clean my van when on site, several times if we are there for a few weeks! Thanks for watching and support, Martin 😊
I clean my van when on pitch if i haven't been able to elsewhere
Hi Martin, thanks for this video. I bought my first caravan & whilst cleaning the inside of the windows where there had been cello tape, I managed to leave scuff marks with a rough sided cloth...have you any advise on how to smooth them out. Thanks, Christopher.
Try this stuff, amzn.to/3u5Vv9E
It’s made by Fenwicks who do some great caravan products, hope that helps. cheers, Martin
I use Meguiars Scratch X on mine also it’s great getting scratches out on windows too.
Hi Colin, I’ve not heard of that one, will be looking it up though 👍 Thanks for the info and watching 😊
The Caravan Nut it’s not as harsh on the van.👍
Will have a look at it, cheers 😊
Hi Martin that’s on order now when are you available 🤣 can’t wait to try it
Hi Liz, it worked a treat. Let me know when you get it & I will come down! 🤔 Colin supplied brews & bacon butties 😂
The Caravan Nut 🥓🥯 I would go one better than that I would throw in an 🍳😂🤣
Done 😂
Looks great,do you not use wax after?
I think Colin used Autoglym on it after
Looks a great job. Has Colin still got the 'van? Just wondering how it's faired up after 3 years. Is it something that needs topping up? How long did it last? Did the panel look worse than it did originaly after it had worn off? 👍
Colin still has the van and it still looks amazing. He is on Twitter if you want to find out more and has his own channel
ua-cam.com/channels/mg4lJEdwPbNC38WXxhl3fQ.html
A better product to use is Farecla Profile, its specially formulated for gelcoats and designed to use with a lambs wool pad on a DA or rotary machine, also after you have compounded the van use the farecla UV wax for excellent result that last for months
Thanks for the info 😊
Wow that looks great Martin 👍 are you taking bookings as ours could do with this? We’re free Tuesday week if that works for you😳 Keith & Michele
Hi Keith & Michele, yes no problem. I love a bit of polishing! 😂 Thanks for the support 😊 see you Saturday 😊
Hi Martin, would you say this cutting paste was much better than Silky..I apply silky to a wet clean surface with a wet cloth and then wash it off..and buff it up with dry cloth...Is this product better for a shiny finish..I'm looking for something that gives something better, on the GRP sides of my bailey?
Hi, I’ve never used Silky before so not sure on that. All I can say is that the M3 works great. Cheers 😊
I'm sold, same has my eccles sport,
the front has gone dull and wax won't do it, just bought a bottle.
Hi Peter, we were really impressed with the results. Worked a treat. Thanks for comments and watching, Martin 😊
Hi guys do you think it would be ok using a orbital polishing machine? May be a little easier than elbow grease.
Yes, as long as you use a soft head on it. Would make it easier.
Just the product I have been trying to find and even better as Colin has a 2009 Charisma same as ours. Do you have any recommendations for replacing/refurbishing caravan grab handles. In the video Colin's front handles look brand new for a 2009 model. Our original handles have seriously perished. I've seen rubber sprays used but not sure. Any advice greatly welcomed.
Not sure about the grab handles, Colin has is own UA-cam channel so you could contact him through that. You could also try KTG caravans and Campers who have lots of spare parts for caravans and might have some better handles.
Cheers
My caravan as gone dull would the meduim 3m be to aggressive. Its a swift 2018
You could try it, I would pick a small section out of site first. Cheers
Is it ok to use a cutting compound on the side panels to mine is dull tried polish but doesn't do much
I wouldn’t, try Autoglym.
Can you use this product on the sides as well ?
Hi Gary, Not sure I would use it on the sides as it’s quite abrasive, I use autoglym on our van sides about 2 to 3 times a year but wash with Fenwicks. Hope that helps, Martin 😊
Hi Martin on renewing my caravan insurance I have notice it’s not covered whilst towing that falls on my car insurance is that correct and how does that work ? I would be grateful if you could help me on this.
Regards Liz
Hi Liz, You got me checking my insurance! I’m with the CAMC and it states ‘covered if caravan is static or towed’ Car insurances generally cover for a trailer however this is an expensive trailer! Not heard of your issue before, who are you with? I would give them a call to clarify. Let me know how you get on, Martin 🙂
The Caravan Nut Thanks Martin I will ring them I am with Ceta secure I may get a quote of the Camcorder as well it’s not due until the 7/7/19
Thanks Liz
Try cover4caravans, I’ve heard they are pretty good. 😊
Caravan and motor home club not camcorder 😂
Hi Martin got a quote from cover4caravans and their quote was £37 cheaper with the right cover thanks for that information very much appreciated. Liz 👏👍
Great vlog and for £16, you can come and do my van if you want lol
Thanks for the feedback, I will be round next week. Thanks for watching, Martin 😊
@@TheCaravanNut Damn, i'm away next week. lol
What a shame 😂
Does it affect the decals?
Colin Seager Hi Colin we didn’t apply it to decals, I would be careful with it as as you can hear on the video it’s quite abrasive. Have your decals faded?
No Martin but I have slight staining from my winter cover in various parts of the van, and as you say I could hear the paste working so assumed it would take the decals off. Shall give it a try though ,just have to be careful around the decals as everything else i have tried has had no effect . Great vid though as all ways
What is the music that is used during the video please??
The music is from UA-cam creators, Nimbus. Cheers
@@TheCaravanNut
Thanx very much. Keep up the gr8 videos.
T cut would do the job to.lot cheaper
Have you used both products to compare?
