So...what about this throttle lag? You seemed concerned but you did not elaborate. And I said before, Yamaha and Suzuki offer very nice incentives/discounts from starting price, Triumph not really. Is it really worth buying Trident then?
Yes, it's a progressive throttle, the first 5-10% is "gentle" then it gets more direct. They did that for the entry level rider, so us more experienced guys won't like it but the beginners will love it. Rain mode makes it even MORE gentle/worse(for me).

How does the compare with Honda cb650r in terms of throttle lag?
I just bought a Trident after extensive research, first ride videos and I must say, there is not competition. Yes it is new and there is little discount. My dealer did give me 200 dollars off. I added connectivity, quick shifter, storage seat bag, USB port and mini microwave grilled cheese maker. I am very happy. Money is not the primary concern since the NT and the CB and in the same ball park.

Hello Scott, thanks for your nice review. My wife bought this same model few weeks ago and she is very happy with it. A lot of torque at very low rpm. 90% of the torque at 3000rpm. So easy to ride this new Triumph model. I am also very impressed. Good things to consider this Trident for your wife. Its perfect bike for us.Have great time and ride safe !

Thank you for the compliment, I actually started the spreadsheets last year for my own personal use, for the super nakeds (my favorite group of bikes), to put the numbers into some sort of perspective and know where all the competitors stand against each other. So the time it took, heh, more like 1 or 2 "pots" of coffee over a year or so 😁👍

Yes the Tuono 660 when I do that it will be in the performance group, against the Triple RS/MT09/F900R/890Duke...etc. Hopefully I'll get to do that this week or next 🤞

I drove it myself last week, great little bike. Not so keen on the brakes, but overall nice bike, good seat & seating position. Great torque. Very smooth riding bike.
I mumble "nothing to prove" a few times in competitive situations on my Mazdaspeed6
and my C-14.

Very good review, and yes it's a good bike that's why I ordered one here in Belgium. After 47 years of only Yamaha and 32 years of 1000 cc four this is going to be some else. Weight was my main point for choosing this bike around 185 kg with full tank and I did a test drive and liked it.

I watched both the Mt07 and Trident videos, two thumbs up.
I want to point out the Trident has more HP but also a point you missed it gets about the same torque at a lower
rev point so it has more grunt. The Trident is an all new engine shares very few older engine parts, and is a better
value with its better chasis parts. Add the quick shifter and its perfect..I would have liked a highway segment and cut down
the photo segment, just post pics online
Technical specifications aside, I think Triumph and Honda have nailed the looks, Honda having the upper hand in my eyes. The MT07 has a face which only a mother could love... perhaps :)
(A commentator whom I've also noticed in other videos of this channel, would make a cat's fur stand on end. Creepy.)

Good question, a chart with feelings...hmm. Thinking...thinking...I'm not sure how to do this, maybe a rating system of what inputs I put into the bike and then the type of feed back comes back from the bike, wow, you've opened a can of worms for me. 😁 I'm writing that with a smile on my face because it sounds intriguing to me, yet I think it is possible to do.

Was really hoping for more commentary on just how different the brakes and suspension really felt compared to the MT-07. Comfort I think is an important difference too.

Sounds and looks good, excellent and (for searchers) helpful review. Take a BMW F 900 R into consideration, I‘m really happy with it, also with the often criticized quickshifter!
Thought the same. At the moment, the BMW has the same price tag as the Triumph, here in Germany. That's 45% more torque for the same price.

That Triumph is one smart looking motorcycle. IMO its the best looking in the class. Something tells me I'd prefer the motor in the Yamaha however. For me it would be a tough decision to chose one over the other.

The things is that Trident is in fact 8035 EUR from dealers (around Frankfurt at least), which is quite a big difference from MT-07. I was decided on the Trident but the announced price and the real one are different...so still don`t know what to do. Nevertheless one of the most comprehensive and less biased reviews so thank you for that!
Yea, that is about right because the numbers that I give are from .de which do not include freight and dealer prep. All dealers are NOT created equal, so their numbers will very a lot.

Love the reviews. I know it's subjective but the new MT07 just looks so damn bad with that horrible LED headlight whilst the Trident is in my view the best looking in the sector (and I have a cb650r). Personally I feel like the XSR700 is more the direct rival due to style. I had one of those and found the gearbox a little notchy compared to the cb650r and Mt09 but what an engine that cp2 is... I'd take it over a triple anyday.

Good review, Thank you, now that I got my first bike, I can see how important is the engine configuration, V Twin, in line Twin, Triple, in line four, I am sure they all feel different in handling and the weight distribution. I got an in line four and I can feel the weight right in front of the bike compare to SV with V twin which feels much lighter in front, easier to handle at slower speed. I think the V Twin can hide the weight better.

Yes you are right, a lot of guys forget about the engine configuration and look at the "specs" and say this will fit me but forget about the heart of the bike, the character the soul, how does it make you feel? That is how one finds a bike for themselves, kind of like finding a girl friend 👍😉

I am a new rider and I have both Trident 660 and Yamaha R3. I like the R3 feel and handling but why I didn't go with MT-07 is because of the styling. I like Trident 660 styling 10 times better than MT-07 styling. I was not sold on the transformer look of MT-07. But Triumph's round oval gas tank and fenderless tail design sealed the deal.
XSR 700 looks better, than MT 07
The headlight makes it. If it was like the street and looked like a unfinished bike with headlights that are missing a fairing piece it would ruin it. Glad they used that headlight

Your welcome. Na, I'm top heavy, I carry a lot of my weight in my shoulders and chest and I have a big head, XXL helmet, so I usually look big for bikes of this size.
Lovin' the XR! Over 9k km on it and still no problems and going strong. Will do 11k service probably next month and make a video about every thing then 😁👍

Great review and excellent information! I may be in the minority here but I'm not a fan of the red accents. To me they don't seem to match 🤷♂️ I do like my bike to have some color but I'd go for the black one with the grey accents 🙂

Yea the lag needs to be fixed. Triumphs first go at electronic throttle needs to be improved. If they don’t issue a service update then a power commander is a must
Scott, between Triumph Trident & Ducati Scrambler, which one would you pick? Where I'm coming from they are both priced quite closely and performance wise is also almost the same.
Well, it really depends on what you are looking for? and what bike stirs your heart? and don't forget about the dealer, the dealer is the one that you will have to work with over time and I'd pick the one that gave you a "warm fuzzy feeling" 👍😁

Trident is modern & Scrambler ICON has the retro look. Living in all around summer environment the scrambler's only fall away is the heat. I'm around 5' 10" - 5' 11". I've checked both the bikes at the showroom & they both looks nice in it's own way. Looks like I just gotta flip my coin for the decision later on when I'm ready to fetch one 😃
the bike looks tiny. i am 6'3" 220 lbs and have a feeling this would be to small. however, i currently have a 690 duke that fits me fine.
Thanks for another great video. Quite informative as usual. I tend to compare these bikes with the BMW F900R as the price difference is not too big. I am really thinking between the CB650R, Trident 660 and the BMW F900R. I’m looking for a bike for everyday use in Berlin and go on longer trips to other cities around Germany on weekends with some luggage and my partner. I’m 165 and 35 years old. I only has small experience with a small displacement motorbike a while ago.
Wondering what are your thoughts.

Thank you. The BMW would be a better choice for you, It has a lot more payload capacity than both of the other bikes and since you'll be two up with luggage, that is important. Also the power is more, well of course, it's a bigger engine :) And don't forget the electronics are second to none on the BMW, no one does the connectivity like BMW. This is why I purchased the 900XR.

No, I like the SV650 more because of it's playful spirit and how it connected with me on an emotional level. The Trident didn't. Sure the Trident is a better bike but choosing a bike is like choosing a girl friend/wife, the logical choice is not always the best choice :)

@@NothingToProve Thanks for your message Scott. The MT 10 RR is not a production bike. A german guy modified a regular MT 10. It was reviewed in one of the British motorcycle magazines. It's something like 200hp at the back wheel Yamaha Klein in Germany made the modifications. I guess it would be hard to get it reviewed since is the only one. Can you explain why you dislike the transmission gears being shorter? I feel like being able to wind out more gears more often is a freaking treat. Am I missing something ? Especially with a quick shifter
For fun factor, sure. In the city traffic, if you use your bike every day it becomes a bit annoying. I think it depends on what you need your bike for. But...he said he is really nitpicking there :) Overall it's ok.

fine without down shifts. Of course I would spend for the quick shifter, but this bike is refined
Well, the assumption that I "dislike" the shorter gears is incorrect, I said in the video "it's not a problem, I just had to get used to it, basically I'm shifting sooner when riding normally/in traffic which is like 90% of the time. And the throttle is progressive, meaning with this throttle the first 5-10% is very gentle and then comes on more (like a normal throttle) as you twist further...which is great for beginners but experienced riders (like me) might not like it so much. I think it was getting used to both of these things at the same time that you interpret as a "dislike". 🤔

I meant it only in the context that you LIKE the mt07’s better, so by my logic you “dislike” this ones (in comparison/in this context). I could have found a better word I suppose just didn’t think it would come across the way it did, I’m glad you explained though because Your video didn’t come across as you coming down hard on it or anything, I didn’t realize I gave the impression I felt you did

The 390 is faster in a corner but the Trident is faster everywhere else.

Stuck between the 2021 MT 07 and the 2021 trident 660... so very similar but for roughly the same price Trident offers an additional cylinder, Showa suspension, etc. I really don’t know which to choose both are beautiful bikes
Then what's left? Go to each dealer and see which dealer you like best, then buy that bike at that dealer 👍😁 Dealerships are very important, if you don't have a good relationship with them then the relationship with your bike won't work.

IMO the most beautiful thing in Triumph bikes is the sound! They have that futuristic-sportive tone that no other bike has. This is too small for me, however.
Just wait for the new 1200RS, that shouldn't be too small 😁😊

Which one do you recommend between Trident, Tuono 660, and F900R?
Well, I have not ridden the Tuono 660 as of yet, so give me two weeks (it's supposed to be in next week, key word there is "supposed") and I'll tell you :) but right now after ridden the RS660, I think I'd take the Tuono660 over the other two but I have to wait to ride the Tuono before I give you the final answer.

Here in Canada BMW F900R 2020 is available for $12200 fully loaded + Tax and Freight and they are giving 3 years warranty and roadside assistant, Trident is roughly around $10500 with few mods and Tuono 660 is starting from $12750. And I am 5'7, not a tall guy. After considering these things do you still think Tuono still be worth its price in Canada? Thanks again for your Recommendation and content :)
Wow, that is a lot of money for the Trident! I wonder why it's so high there. The Tuono & 900R seem to be more "normal" in price but for a loaded 900R it's a little cheaper here in Germany, they start at 8,800€...loaded around 10-11k. The Tuono will probably be the most expensive to maintain. And the Trident the least expensive and the BMW somewhere in the middle. BMW has the best display and connectivity of all, bar none, this is one of the reasons I bought the 900XR last year and have never looked back or regretted it.
Hmm...sounds like they are really trying to sell BMW's there, good incentives, hmm...I'd get the blue one! 👍
But if you want more sporty riding, then get the Tuono 😁 It's the fastest in a corner of the three, if that is important to you but the BMW has more power and will pull away from both in a straight line.
The Trident is the lowest performing bike of the three but it is meant for beginner/entry level riders.
Decisions, decisions, decisions...
It really comes down to what bike moves your heart. You'll be happy with all three but which one moves you? That is the question you need to ask your self. Like choosing a girl friend, it's usually not the most logical choice 🤔🤔

Thanks for taking the time and reply back to me. Yeah, I am also leaning toward BMW Blue color :) Not into sport riding Married a man now so looking to get something for the long term and something that doesn't push me to do crazy stuff 😊. Yeah I also looked in CB650R and that bike didn't click for me and I am feeling it's going to be the same for Trident. Plus used to ride Kawasaki Z800 so Trident gonna feel a little small.

Methinks the MT-07 has Sumitomo brakes, sames as the whole yamaha range. Just to nitpick, I can't see the point of a silly 14L tank, nor the super short front mudguard. The pillion seat looks too small and the grab rail is an option. But I love the headlight and clocks, its moved the goalposts.

I wonder if Triumph could program nanny mode out of their throttle response. In fact they could have three modes nanny, rain and road mode😅
Nice review! But the Honda 95 hp of the Honda makes a huge difference for me + the in line 4 for the smoothness!
That's great if you live at 12,000 RPM cause that is where that 95 hp is at. Reality is we spend most of the time at less than half that RPM on the street. So yes as I pointed out in the chart, it is 95hp but it's way up in the stratosphere...not very practical every-day-useable power. But if you like to rev the motor, then this is the bike for you!

Scott! I'm sure you will enjoy to read all the bikes I had: Kawasaki Z750 2004, Honda VFR 800 2005, Suzuki V-Strom 1000 2007, Ducati Monster 696 2009, Yamaha R3 2017 and finally Honda CB650 2019... CB 650 is the best! ... Something important about the naked bikes that you are not talking about in your reviews is the wind protection... I couldn't drovr my CB without a fairing
Wind protection. Naked bike. No fairing, no wind screen, no nothing. Hmm...kind of goes without saying that there is no wind protection. Do I really need to say that in a video? Especially in this middleweight budget group, a wind screen/fairing will cost money for the OEM 😁🤣
Although I do talk about that on some of the super nakeds, just the ones that have a "mini" screen on them like the 1100 Tuono.
Yea, of those bikes that you've owned the CB650 is the better bike. But any newer bike is usually better than an older bike, usually.

No, gopro Max, it's better for my needs, an action camera. X1 & 2 are not action cameras and does not always work when I want it too and the Max does.

a trident 660 apesar de boa moto,. ela nao superou as espetativas que se fazia sentir acerca desta maquina ,.. muito videos forao feitos sobre a mesma , dizendo em inumeros desses videos e comentarios que vinha pra dizimar a concorrencia japonesa , nomeadamente a mt 07 ,.. e o que muitos esperavao era uma naked bem parcida a cb 650r em relaçao a performances etç,.. porem, acho que nem pra 07 chega nesse aspeto,.. eu creio que posso afirmar que a mt 07 , principalmente ate 2020 que é a versao que tenho ,(ice fluo ) ainda será a melhor moto urbana , derivado a seu carater e sua facilidade de se pilotar ,..a triumph trident encaixa no perfiil de quem quer algo diferente , descontraido,.. e com certo estilo ,..moto mais pra fim de semana ,. pra curtir ,. ! a meu ver há espaço pra todas ,.. todas tem seus carater ,..sua emoçao ,.. e cada pessoa deve comprar aquela que mais lhe agrada ,.. pois de todas ,.. no creio haver menos boas ou melhores ,.. mas sim, todas estas motos sao boas e com boa qualidade... é mais uma questao de gosto pessoal !
2K USD more expensive than the Z, here in India.. Probably not going to be an easy choice to make..
Overall a nice looking bike, but I can't get past the ridiculous round display plopped up there. It looks like it was added as an afterthought.
I still dont get it Triumph in Germany is 7650€ and here on Balkans where people have less money is 8190 € how ??
Wow the old mt_07 is actually lighter and more powerful than the newer mt_07 what a surprise. Bloody euro 5, surpriseed that yamaha did not actually increase the cc to compensate for the lack of power, however that would of pushed up the price because they would have to retooled

I didn’t care for the suspension or the transmission. And my butt was killing me after the 20 minute demo ride.
I think it’s more attractive than the street triples. I just don’t like the whole swoopy alien look. The original street triple was better
Well I test rode the Triumph this morning having previously owned an MT07 but turned up on my current Honda NC750S. The first thing I noticed, on pulling away was, as you mention, the throttle lag and complete lack of anything useable under 3k (possibly 4k). Obviously the MT is the complete opposite and will poke wheelies for a pastime with just a blip of the throttle.
I also found myself looking for another gear (or two) but, and here's the crux of it, I'm a low down torque kinda' rider who doesn't like to hear/feel an engine screaming. (never did like fours). So that's not really a complaint but just goes to highlight what I'd say is a massive difference between the Triumph and the Yamaha. Maybe it just depends on when you want that power delivery to come in.
Then there's the suspension. My MT07 was Gen 1 and I've no idea if much has been done since but the Triumph is far superior and very confidence inspiring. The Yamaha was downright dangerous if pushed.
Fit and finish seem quality on the Triumph whereas Yamaha could have done with putting more than one layer of paint on their bikes as mine was showing signs of rust in no time. (Maybe they do now, I just don't know).
At the end of the day, despite liking the Torquey motor of the Yamaha, I'd buy the Triumph because it just feels better quality and somehow safer. In truth though, I'd buy neither as I'm an old fart who loves the practicality of the Honda and already own a nutter bike for as and when I'm in the mood, so no need for something in between. Looks like a 2021 NC750X for me.
This bike would be perfect if it weren't for that bad throttle response. Hope they fix that in future updates.
That is built in on purpose, 5-10% of throttle is very gentle and then after that is get's back to normal. They did this for the beginner/entry level rider. It's great for them but us experienced riders, well, let's just say it was kind of irritating when I was trying to have some "fun". :(

I kind of agree but I wish triumph had just blown the rest out of the water. Why land right in the middle of the pack of older bikes. I just feel like they could have obliterated the segment given the motor they started with

The subframe is too short for no good reason. No way will anyone like sitting on that as a pillion. They then fit that ugly fender thing that does not work to compensate for the lack of mudguard. A classic example of form over function that failed.
Your right that's the reason I ordered the tail tidy.

Trident seems little too small for a big guy like you.
I'm 5'10" 185 lbs,, if you want to call that "big" that's up to you. But if you are my size or bigger, this bikes not for you.
