  • If you want your V-Rod oil change done how an official Harley-Davidson dealership does it, but don't want to pay someone else to do it, this video's for you! Here's how to do an oil change on a Harley-Davidson V-Rod in only 6 easy steps.
For full instructions, check out my site: www.youmotorcycle.com/how-to-...
Recommended products and tools used in this video:
5 quarts or 4.3 litres of 20W-50 synthetic or semi-synthetic motor oil: amzn.to/480jU3N
Oil filter. Harley-Davidson Part Number 63793-01K or any equivalent, including the FRAM6100 or the K&N 174B/174C: amzn.to/3SF4nSC
17mm socket bit and wrench. If you're in America, go to Harbor Freight and pick up a cheap set. If you're in Canada head over to Princess Auto or Canadian Tire.
Oil filter wrench - check these out: amzn.to/2W2OjgX
Torque wrench capable of 22-30 ft. lbs of torque (or roughly 30-40 NM) - given that the V-Rod has a range, even this really cheap wrench will be perfect: amzn.to/2YzUPcX
    Rags and paper towel
Motorcycle table lift - got mine for a crazy price from DiscountRamps here: discount-ramps.sjv.io/motorcy...
Harley-Davidson made the V-Rod in partnership with Porsche. They tested those motors under ridiculous circumstances for years. With a little love, there’s no reason why your V-Rod shouldn’t last you 100,000 miles, so make sure you take care of it. If you have any questions about a V-Rod oil change or about V-Rods in general, just leave me a comment down below.

Close, with the exception that the V-Rod does not use a Sealing Washer (RING) Read the manual.
There was also a bulletin that came out way back in 2005 that the standard oil fill for all V-Rods after draining oil and filter went from 4.5 qts to 5 qts even. oil level is also suppose to be checked at operating temperature, which can be achieved by letting bike idle and waiting for cooling fans to cycle twice. It can show a difference of up to 1/2 half a quart. between cold check and hot check.

I had a VRod several years ago, sold it, since have been through a range of others and am next week going to collect my new old 2003 VRSCA to start my ‘keeper’ collection. It’s a stand out, is beautiful, represents so many firsts and rides and sounds great. I found a one owner (who paid $48,850 new after all the extras he wanted) with 13,000 kms (in 17 yrs). Very excited. I’m now pondering my next ‘keeper’- thinking late 80’s Vmax or a FZ1N (circa 2008).

    • @YouMotorcycle
      @YouMotorcycle  4 роки тому +2

Harley's service manual says the bike needs to be upright to check the level, NOT on the side stand. Manufacturers never want you to check the oil on the side-stand because there are too many variables like that (aftermarket side stand, upgrades or changes in suspension/height, etc.) - for more instructions, click here and look at step 6: www.youmotorcycle.com/how-to-do-an-oil-change-on-a-harley-davidson-v-rod.html

They're just different trims of the same model, so you have VRSCA, VRSCB, VRSCD, VRSCDX, VRSCF, VRSCR, etc for all of the various models of V-Rods. That includes Night Rods, Night Rod Specials, Muscles, the original Street Rod, etc. They're all V-Rods and 99% of parts are interchangeable as long as they're within the same generation. Usually 2007 changes over from the first generation to the next, but even then some parts are interchangeable

    • @YouMotorcycle

2006 Night Rod. Night Rod has mid controls standard, not forward controls. Engine and frame were always black, whereas some V-Rods have more silver/grey engines and/or frames. Exhaust gives it a little more power. It's basically a V-Rod for people who want a tiny bit more handling and performance out of the bike.

I'm sure you figured this out by now, but, you don't get your hand in there to get it out. You just get a tool in there, and then gravity does the rest. On the way out, you just put the filter in place and spin from under. Otherwise, you're right, you'd have to be like a rubberband man lol

I've never heard of any bikes that needed to be checked on the side stand, as the minute you adjust your suspension it would throw off the reading...

I'm usually a K&N guy. I love that I can get those on and off with a 17mm wrench, but the dealer was out and said they were on backorder and I wanted to get on the road ASAP so I grabbed what was available. It's only on for about 6 months as I change oil pretty regularly so I'm not too worried about it. Thanks for your concern though :)
