First thing I bought for my bike was a Harley Davidson Manual that I refer to all the time when doing any maintenance, even stuff I've done many times before. Looks like the V-Rod book is definitely a must for the owner.
Very well explained, Doc. Thank you. To everybody who think that a Vrod is complicated to maintain, have a look on a Ducati Diabel. Not complicated, but very unusual.😊 Regards from Austria.
@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson off the subject but when u do a whole cam conversion, how many miles to break it in? And within that period how many mph would be ideal when cruising? Thx.
Thanks Doc that was excellent. I have a friend who has 6 HD's and one is a V-ROD which I have never seen him ride, maybe because he can't find the fuel tank.,
Lots of great information as always, Doc. I enjoy all your videos. Have you ever done one on riding your clutch in the friction zone or gray zone? I want to practice motor officers skills training but can't afford to drop a lot of money in clutches.
The Vrod is a great bike . I had a. 2009 VRSCF. I recently picked up a 2005 CVO SE VRSCSE . It’s a real shame how the aftermarket didn’t want anything to do with it . A lot of them are still holding their value though
You made a great choice with the CVO! Congrats bro. Here in AUS, especially in Sydney - VRod’s are the most sought after HD. Our aftermarket and support is very accessible. Take good care of your screamin’ Eagle. I’m currently on the market for a yellow CVO VRod. Ride safe brother ✊🏽
I had a V-Rod for 10 years. I loved it but unfortunately too many of the HD faithful didn't. It was more European than American, which was okay with me, and an engineering marvel and headache at the same time. If you get a chance to ride one, do so. A sheer blast to ride!
@@tightright7561 The entire motorcycle industry has been plagued by high prices. The young kids used to buy 600cc and up inline 4 crotch rockets but with a ZX-6R 600cc bike costing $11-12k MSRP they've had to settle for the cheaper parallel twin fart machines.
I have had my vrod for 23 years, that Manual helped me figured out the correct maintenance schedule, trouble shooting, how to fix my it, and share that knowledge with other vrod owners, because the knowledge and expertise within the Harley Davidson techs has been lost, there are places that won’t even work on a 10 year old motorcycle. Fitzgerald motor sports in a good place to find experts on these type of bikes, if you can’t find the part these guys can cnc it for u, but the biggest issue is the electronic replacements. if you plan to keep this bike long term, invest in electronic replacement parts.

It was ahead of its time. Would have loved to see a v-rod trike 😁, or better yet a reverse v-rod trike like the new can am spyders. This thing would look awesome in that configuration IMO
Thanks, Doc,exactly what's needed for those senior moments. While here can I ask about the maintenance regimen of radiator coolant apart from its periodic top-up? Does it deteriorate over time, particularly over lengthy storage and if so is there a need to flush and replace it. The marketing ploys sometimes have a conflict of interest as to what might be suggested as the ' right product for you'. Now, where did I put down that allen key? Cheers from sunny Queensland.
Doc I need your help. I've got a 2011 NRS. My girl complains about the pegs when she rides with me so I bought some passenger pegs for a V-Rod Muscle. Do I have to have a special bracket to attach them or do they just bolt on to the frame? Haven't had time to look at as the bike is at a friend's house in another city getting tires, fork tube rebuild and black out covers put on. Just need some insight.
I was a little late to the Vrod party, I didn’t get my first one until early 05. All together I’ve had 6. It’s hard to pick my favorite model, but I have my favorite models in the garage. The 08D, last of the original Nightrods. Then the 13F, the Muscle has the styling of what the power cruiser is supposed to have. At the end of the day, the 08D will be my forever bike because at the end of the day, it has the best qualities of the Vrod in one package. Either way, I’ll be the old man riding the Vrod one day. I should snag up a couple more so that I’ll have a couple parts bikes. Too bad that there’s only a handful of shops that’ll actually work on them.
Kevin we have not had that situation come into our shop. Take head a part, bring it to a machine shop that will weld up the hole and tap it. Helicoils don’t last. A Time-sert is better but will effect the way a spark plug dissipates heat…..Doc
I do not know of a manufacturer here in the States. V-Rod had a huge following in Europe. A German and Italian company made many parts but that was before production stopped. I am sure you have asked on all the V-Rod forums….Doc

Depends how you use it. If you ride in the winter or on very dirty roads, it's great having everything covered up. Keeps it all clean and keeps corrosion at bay.
Put the gas tank under the seat to help with the centre of gravity, then put the radiator reservoir up high and the battery up high. Makes no sense. Only thing that makes sense is Doc Harley.
