I totally disagree!! Explanative, Injurious word, CAP CHARACTERS!!! Insert Strawman argument. You are a total this and a complete that. My opinion is the only right one and the only one that is important!! Everyone else are either wrong or sheeps... You mean this types of comment? lol
I love Arcturus and Solefald (the side projects the two vocalists are in), but I never fully got into Borknagar. Like you mentioned, the album is very skillfully done, but I guess it sounds a bit too clean for my tastes. Reminds me a bit of modern-day Amorphis where the soaring, sing-along vocals are guiding the songs. Definitely not bad, but I'll probably stick with my Arcturus and Solefald albums instead.
I was never able to appreciate anything Borknagar did after their debut. The first album is glorious, though. For some reason whenever I feel in good spirits Borknagar debut is one of my go to albums.
It's one of my favorite bands. You should check out my long Enslaved discography video to get a full answer. Also, have you seen my Enslaved interview?
I want to like True North. Back around 2012, I was quite into Borknagar. But in the meantime, my tastes have evolved, and I now prefer stuff that is more intense and more raw. Borknagar is almost too polite, sort of like "Black Metal with training wheels." But I have a friend who loves Power Metal, and he thinks True North is great, and he's not wrong, but he does show that Borknagar's audience these days is more general Metal fans, rather than Black Metal fans.
Great review as always, I do agree with you about the vocals, even though I stopped listening to them after the second album, I always thought those two were the only relevant albums, I listened to the other albums here and there and didn't have an impact on me. I always disliked vortex vocals, well that's only my opinion.
Very good album from a very good band, not their best in my opinion, that would be the archaic course or possibly the olden domain, but I enjoyed it thoroughly and recommend it. Hails to Rauta
They were really good at making the old stuff. This album is really boring and dull. Yes, sure, they are great musicians and it is a very good album, but no thanks. Excellent review.
n mac .. so you’re saying that an album is good only if you like it?? You know I also don’t like Tool or Pink Floyd for example.. am I supposed to say that their albums are terrible?? 🤣
They played it safe, but they know how to write good music, and I.C.S. as one of the best voices in metal.
Finally glad to come to a comment section where we can disuss our true opinions without backlash of any sort. I commend my fellow metalheads.
I was about to say the same. I'm really proud of this audience.

One of my top 5 albums of the year!
Loved the album personally. I like hearing your take on it though. They are playing near me soon. I already have tickets.
Hope you enjoy the show! Would be great to interview these guys.
In my 2019 top ten!
I didn't listen to the whole album but Up North touched me so deeply that this song just debunked Master of Puppets as my favorite music ever lol
Up north the song is an absolute classic!

I can get what you mean with Amorphis comparison. Both are borderline prog metal while having their roots in respective pagan metal tradition.
Epic is my favourite from then

Hi Rauta, nice review. What do you think of Enslaved?

Well, I wouldn't even call it black metal, and hence the title. There's basically nothing BMish in my opinion. Just the past.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, Vortex vocals are kinda of acquired taste, no matter how talented they are.
