    I’m 58 and I’ve ridden standard quality bikes all my life. Recently bought my dream bike and I can attest that I’ve gained 1 1/2mph average over the same course that I’ve trained on for over 30 years. Aerodynamics, comfort and fit make a huge difference. I’m not saying it’s for everyone but if you can afford it, why not? I am at 6’4” and 225lbs and I know what it’s like to compete against a 140lb gazelle, much respect Nick!

    Beautiful aero bike with the most anti-aero position. Definitely need to work that position and cut muscle mass if you're going to actually get your money's worth out of a bike like that. Natasha said it without saying it... You can't just buy speed, you've got a long way to go. Keep at it!

      Your statement is incorrect. You absolutely can buy speed - aero helmets, aero wheels, form fitting trisuits - all of these will help against drag and help you be faster, this is proven in wind tunnel testing. Is Nick's position great, of course not, he's a brick sitting on a tribike, but small gains help with PB's.

It's about the athlete not the equipment... Nick is an athlete no denying that but in triathlon he's not there yet, he's not at a level where he can qualify for Kona right now, I have no doubt he won't improve vastly and get very close to 10. Look at the pro athletes, not one of them are built like Nick, the closest you might get is Phil Graves or Andrew Starykowicz... if you look at Gustav Iden, Alistair Brownlee, Matt Hanson look at their positions you will see how optimized they all are

    Huge split drop offs still. Most of the the 11 second drop was in the first 200. For the 400m/500Y your 100 splits should be no more than 5 seconds from the fastest 100 to the slowest. Go out slower, trying to hold all 5 100s @ 1:30 gives you a 7:30 - 40 seconds faster. 1:24 might have felt easy but I guarantee you produced lactate and you paid for it in those 1:40 splits.

It looked like towards the end of the 500, you were still keeping very consistent with the kick, which is great for shorter races, but when you start to look at a 1+ hour swim for an ironman, you'll want to save your legs since they will doing all the work on the bike and run. Just my two cents.

    On Swimming: Experiment with 'breathe every other(2-6) stroke(s).' Less tired, you'll be I think. Also, experiment with laps underwater; there is an aerobic/anaerobic analogy with your marathon training there; start with one, then two, then three, then 4...lengths. (does vitamin E make you a better swimmer? they used think it did)

    I think if you can afford it and want to buy an expensive bike then go for it. You can definitely train and race on a way cheaper bike but if it’s disposable income ...buy a super bike if you want. As long as you’re not under the illusion that fancy equipment is all you need to make you good. It helps, but nothing will make you faster than hard work does. And I think we can all see how hard Nick works, he is under no illusions. Just cos you can’t afford a crazy bike don’t hate on someone who can 🤷‍♀️

    Is there a reason you heel strike rather than forefoot strike the you run? would love to know more!

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic 4 роки тому +1

      Your strike is completely driven by personal efficiency and anatomy. Forced midfoot and forefoot strikes have been proven counterproductive. There is no appreciable difference in running efficiency at times over 6 minutes per mile after which point runners capable of maintaining that speed would be naturally more inclined to lean more I to their mid and forefoot anyway.

    Major time loss on the touch turns. Two or three seconds easy on each. Camera focused on upper body, but lower body looked like it could stand to be higher in the water. Pushing your head and chest down a little more and a stronger kick with flip turns would really improve your times.

      The fit process for Nick will require a multi-stage approach, which is what we have planned. You will see him get more aggressively fit on the bike over time. Bicycle World is working closely with his professional coach with a schedule of goals on a specific timeline.
