Not uncommon for poor swimmers. Specially at his size, and it being all muscle, the water is rough. Plus, out of those 120 people, a good amount are the "swimming background" athletes. Anyone that swam competitively will swim circles even around guys like Lionel Sanders. So this really is not unexpected. The water is just a different element, you can't grow into it unless you literally grew in it. With cycling you see a tone of athletes going pro later in life without a cycling-specific background, Cam Wurf is one, but there are tones of examples. You wouldn't see this with swimming. You have to start young.
@@YP2016 Correct. The amount of time it takes to improve swimming is huge compared to how much you can improve on the bike (until you reach a certain level). I'm a slower swimmer myself.. just raced Gulf Coast 70.3 on the 15th.. I was out of the water in 38 minutes (faster than nick) but I was 412th after the swim.. but 87th after the bike (did a 2:21 bike split) I came in around a similar time as Nick's half but I still have a lot of ground to make up on the run before I consider focusing on my swim ( I did a 1:58 half marathon..)
Running in the heat is killer. Maybe getting some afternoon runs in the Texas heat are a good way to prep for an event in this climate. Way to grit it out man.
I can't believe it's been seven months already. Really shows how if you put your head down and do the task at hand, time truly flies and you get to reap the rewards. Like always, awesome video!
Man, I’ve been invested in this every week for the past 6 months and it finally happening made me emotional! What a finish to a crazy season. Super inspirational, can’t wait to see what’s next to come
Great job on your race. Come back next year with some more training and you could be in striking distance of your 10 hour IM goal. If you're serious about going as fast as you can go, drop some mass and it can help with aerodynamics and heat acclimation. You have the luxury of full support, coaching, and flexible training time, make the most of it!
Good job Nick! It's good to show how we battle our demons when things don't go as planned on race day but that's only going to make next race that much sweeter!! #GOONEMORE
Hardest thing to learn in triathlon is not to overcook the bike when you are feeling good. Any gains you make there will be given back twofold on the run. Great Job in tough conditions!
As one that is starting to learn how to make content, I have to give big props to your editor. They make the content very engaging and entertaining. I will be picking up some pointers as I watch your videos. The bonus is your hard work. It also motivates me. Thanks mate!
this is great motivation , I'm training for my first half iron man and I'm learning to swim this year. I love your page kudos to the production team as well!
Wow loved it! I’m training for IM UK 6 weeks out. On early morning weekend workouts I binge your episodes and it’s dragged me through lots of them. THANKYOU
youre an inspiration nick! i started regular running and biking because of you! seeing you perform and succeed in the race is awesome! keep up the good work
Congrats for the hard work that you all put in on this entire prep! I thinks that’s the best triathlon video you ever created guys! Nick and his team you guys are awesome✌🏼
Lots of respect. I live in Thailand and I am kinda used to the tropical heat when running but without training and conditioning It’s killer. Well done for pushing through 💪🏻
Wow what an excellent series my man, very well done! The music was BANGIN, the filming and editing was incredible, very educational and motivational. Thanks for sharing this incredible journey!
Well done, Nick. I've been following you for a while now and it's nice to see your hard work paying off. You are very inspiring. So much so, that I am now training for my first marathon, the Marine Corp Marathon, in October. #GoOneMore
Well done Nick! Great result, you are a beast! Keep‘ on rockin‘ you and your projects are motivating and inspiring! Thanks to you and the great team! Cheers from Germany!

This was amazing!!! Have followed you since Korea and it has been so inspiring to watch you grow and go one more! Keep at it Nick, you have built something seriously special
I love this so much! I wish you would have done the Texas Iron man tho, as it would have been a full and not a 70.3. You trained really hard for this and to be able to do a full in your home state would have been great. This is still really cool and a really really good video
Kinda interesting. Looked up the result. If you train your transition more you would have finished faster than 5:02:16. Consider not start fueling until you are on the bike. If you have to do it you can leave the gel open so you can eat it way faster. Skip the socks on the bike (in this weather they shouldn't be necessairy) and learn to jump on / off the bike. This way you won't have to run in the cycling shoes and you can run directly into T2, putting on the socks, leave the helmet and directly out into the run. But it's amazing you are racing once again! This is what we love and train for!
@Nick Bare - you are an amazing athlete and a true inspiration. Thank you being such an awesome inspiration and sharing your journey! Great video as always and great work by the entire BPN team. I had goosebumps watching the video and truly motivated. More power to you Nick!
He'd need to improve a good amount more. A general rule of thumb is 2x your 70.3 time + 1 hour for a full.. would put him at 11 hours with this result. but if he did a cool race and flat again like Florida maybe he'd be better off (cancun was flat but not cool - IM Florida is in November).. I was hoping he'd just continue his training and do Waco given its still in Texas... close to where he lives and later in the season.. Or even just stick with Texas given they didn't cancel it just postponed it.. Sub 10 is a big deal.. I can crack 5 in a half as a slow runner.. but I'm pretty far from a sub 10 full.. It is cool to see someone doing both styles of training.. as it's what I do.. I'm not nearly as buff as Nick but I do weigh more due to being 6'6" lol..
@@smb06 Yeah! I'd definitely love to see another season or a continuation of IM sub-10 but hell an ultra is a cool thing too. An ultra swim rather than an ultra run would lay the groundwork for him for a sub 10 IM tho imho.
I feel ya on the things that don’t go to plan in a tri. IM St George a few weeks ago taught me a ton about controlling what you can and dealing with what you can’t.
Awesome video and prep journey Nick, been super inspiring to follow along! P.s you HAVE to collab with Fergus Crawley over in the UK/Scotland when you get the chance, you guys are very similar athletes and inspiring dudes!
Great 👍🏾 👍🏾 job on the production. Nick your getting faster in each Ironman!!!! Profoundly inspiring!!!! Thanks 🙏🏾 for motivating me to “GO ONE MORE!!!!”
