Nice looking Ercoupe! These are my favorite planes. I love that the windows slide down, making it a 'convertible.' I have heard rumors of the wood substitution, but I am not aware of any that still exist. If any do, that would be quite the collectable! Thanks for the video.

I’d love to see someone take the original plans and create a carbon fiber version using a rotax engine and a modern glass panel cockpit.

This guy should do his homework. No wood wing ercoupes. Tandem seating never used in ercoupes. Fred's name is pronounced "Wike" as in bike. It is ercoupe not airocoupe. Alon built an Aircoupe in the 60s same airplane with rudder pedals and a C 90 engine.

Hi thanks for the comment. By mid-1941 aluminum supplies were being diverted to war-related production, so ERCO decided to manufacture Ercoupes for military use by using wood as the principal building material. The substitution of wood resulted in a heavier but quieter aircraft, because the wood absorbed vibrations from the engine and airflow. Ercoupes were flown during the war by the Civilian Pilot Training Program for flight instruction, and the Civil Air Patrol used them to patrol for German submarines. I am confused by the "tandem" comment. I'll have to go back and look at this episode to try and figure out what your talking about. Sorry my accent frustrates you. Again, we appreciate your comments.

Have someone check your pronunciations. Erco is pronounced Er-coupe not Air O Coup. So every time you misprounced the name of this venerable aircraft, you made me cringe like squeaking chalk on a blackboard. Sheese.

How does this dude have a channel? He clearly doesn't know what he is talking about. The Ercoupe was never a warbird, didnt have wooden wings, and didnt have a tandem cockpit.

At its peak in 1944, the CAP had 125,000 members and 45,000 pilots. Fifty-seven CAP members died from accidents, including the 26 who died while flying coastal patrol. The CAP is officially credited with sinking or damaging two of the German submarines it attacked. I am confused by the "tandem" comment.
