I'd never considered buying an Ercoupe until recently. I really like to open cockpit option for the hot summer Florida days I'm often flying in. Looks like a really stable aircraft. Also, since many of these can qualify for LSA her in the U.S. I'd expect that they will appreciate in the years ahead. Thanks for a really nice video, guys. Danke Shoen!

Great video flying the Ercoupe. That Ercoupe is a great little plane. My dad owned an Ercoupe back in 1950. I was only a few years old then. That's one of the easiest planes to fly. No rudder pedals. No spin!! Wish they still made them or something like them. I'm paraplegia paralyzed from the waist down. To old to buy an Ercoupe now. If I was a young man and couldn't walk I'd have one. Thanks for sharing. JC

You guys did a great job with the narration and filming. Sweet shots of the planes from all angles. I especially love the below and trailing view as it clearly shows the genius of Fred's design. Two thumbs up. If you ever come to SF you'd be welcome to borrow my 415-E N94809

When in 1969 I was in high school our summer project,we always helped me dad with a summer project, we bought a bar find which was a 1947 Ercoupe. I mean it was in a barn and this little old lady sold it to me dad for I think $1700.00 dollars. We took it all apart trailered it back to our home recovered the wings polished the aluminum to mirro finish and painted the same color scheme as this one in the vid. Except the wings to had RWB with stars. The engine was rebult by a registered mechanic and all was inspected as we went on the rebuild as the FAA inspector wanted to see what we did to the ribs and spars in the cloth wing.We reclothed it as well.Like building an rc airplane only larger. Then my brother and I would hand toss the propellar with me dad in the cockpit of course no wings and would start the engine to see it run.the neighbors always new we were abit odd, lol! We just thought weveryone did this in their summer time off. So the flying was great me dad taught each of us how to fly this since he was a B-29'er pilot in WW2 and before he flew b-29'ers he was and instructor teaching on the AT-6 kids how to fly readying them for war.So it was so easy and of course we respected this and always looked over the plane in pre-flight checking everything from draining some gas to check by taste for any water. I would love to buy one and get me liscense but am 65 now and thats for younger ones to enjoy.

The Ercoupe airplane broke apart in flight while maneuvering. The pilot and a passenger were on a local flight and did not return. The wreckage was located strewn over an area of grassy hills. The wings and empennage sections were found separate from the main fuselage. The owner of the airplane had flown with the pilot just prior to the accident flight and reported that the pilot had been doing aileron rolls. The airplane had flown about 4 hours since its annual inspection. Prior to that time, the airplane was damaged during a hard landing and sat, unrepaired, for 2 years. Post accident examination of the airframe revealed extensive corrosion through the wing walk areas and wing spar center section, with corrosion affecting at least 20 rivets that secure the web to the upper spar cap. A Safety Board metallurgist determined that the area of the wing spar center section corrosion could not have been detected through current inspection methods and procedures.
