Dying & Repurposing Your Wedding Dress + Etsy Dress Fails

  • In a previous video I bought a wedding dress in white instead of champagne. I decided to use this as an opportunity to talk about repurposing a wedding dress by having it professionally dyed. Was it a fail or a success? Cast your vote in the comments as to whether or not I should buy the original dress or forget it and move on.
    Also I wanted to review a dress that I bought from an Etsy shop six months ago that was kind of a nightmare and has been sitting on my table still in the packaging. I'm opening it today.

    Those of us who really are making things by hand ARE on Etsy, but yes, we are swamped and overshadowed by crappy mass-produced junk.

      I know there are legit crafters out there, keep doing what you're doing. The world needs handmade things of beauty.

    I found this really helpful since my daughter is hoping to have an ivory wedding gown dyed black for prom. My search continues to find a reputable pro to do it since it's all lace and tulle.
    Just a side note: trash the dress sessions aren't always about divorce! I know a lot of brides who did it for fun for the same reason as dyeing them. Weddings over, kids will never want it, why not go and get some cool pics taken WITH your hubby and trash it!

      Very true! I've seen a few videos of people trashing the dress for non-sad reasons and I think it's a fun idea, but of course there's always someone who comments and tries to make them feel guilty for it too. 😂 There's no winning with everyone, may as well just do what makes you happy. I hope your dress dyeing project turns out well and thanks for watching ❤️❤️

    Man. I love this lil corner of youtube. Lookin forward to seeing the content.
    Edit:
    I love your honesty. Dont worry. You are allowed to be dissapointed. She basically lied when she said she could handle dying it. Its lovley regardless but I am sorry.
    As for the dress.... Mmm. Well. Im bad at that but I think finding a new love is best. There are so many pretty dresses in the world. But if your heart is set on it, well. Go for it. Dresses can be worn year round in a house after all.

      Yes! You're so right, I don't mind wearing my pretty dresses around the house and if nothing else comes up, sometimes I create events just so I can wear them. Thank you for the advice too. Just thinking about replacing the dress, I feel certain I'll just forget about it and move on, but every time I go to the website and look at it I feel torn again. 😆

    Oh I wish I had of known before you did this. Tull is a nightmare. I’ve had to remove it on dresses then put it back on. That adds a huge amount of money to the entire thing.

    Minute 6:14. Yes, my wedding dress was the symbol of what I thought my married life was doing to be. I did not used it. I'm still married after 18 years, but did not get the chance for religious wedding. I still do not want to let it go. We do not have an active social life to modify it as an elegant gown... exploring options on how to repurpose it. Thanks for you video

      So glad you enjoyed it! And you should absolutely keep your dress as long as you want to :)

    Just let it go :( ... For sure you'll find sth similar but not necessary a wedding dress. By the way, the failed-brown dress looks great on you :)

    I think the dyed dress is lovely. But, I understand your criticism. Second dress pretty but feels frumpy looking.

    That would make an excellent autumn fairy costume since you got a refund for it anyway. Halloween to the rescue!

      When I spoke to her, she said she was going to use just 1-2 capfuls of a beige or tan dye. The standard Rit dye for synthetic fabrics.

    Any advice on materials to avoid when dying a wedding dress I really want like a black and silver grey wedding dress

    • @bleuavenue
      @bleuavenue  Рік тому

      The only way to be certain of what you're getting is to either custom order from a reputable shop or buy pre-dyed pieces and make your own. The trickiest thing is having a dress made of lots of different kinds of fabric. Synthetics in particular can be a little unpredictable in how they absorb dye. Rit makes dye specifically for synthetics, so that may be something to consider. Or, if you're not too particular about the style, maybe get several dresses to dye and see which one turns out the best. Hope that helps and best of luck!

    Where did you find a place to get a dress dyed? I googled and called several alterations places and bridal places and nobody does it or knows where I can take it

    • @bleuavenue
      @bleuavenue  2 роки тому

      I called several bridal shops until I found one that said they did it all the time. Judging by the results though, she didn't really know what she was doing. Basically she just bought some dye like you can get at the store and used a large tub outside to dye it and hang it up to dry.

    Hi there. Is there a way I can turn my buttercream colored dress white?😣

    • @bleuavenue
      @bleuavenue  2 роки тому

      I doubt it, bleaching the dress could cause damage. But you could always ask a bridal shop just to be sure.

      Is it an old dress that has yellowed with age? I soaked a yellowed dress in Oxygen bleach and it whitened it considerably.

    Hi my gown is Coral pink can i dye it to deep red?

    • @bleuavenue
      @bleuavenue  2 роки тому

      Hello :D It depends on the material. Some fabric will absorb dye quite well and some will not.

    Your dress can be saved but you’re going to have to probably go with a color you didn’t want to start with.
