A young supporter of Just Stop Oil ran onto the pitch during the Everton vs Newcastle United game to draw attention to the group’s demand that the Government ends all new fossil fuel supply projects.
Press Release: juststopoil.org/2022/03/17/br...
COP26 has failed: there are no meaningful commitments to halt fossil fuel production, our future now a reckless gamble.
Carry on emitting today and hope at some future date huge carbon sucking technology will solve the problem. Yet we know carbon is killing today, and global emissions are still rising.
Oil is more valuable than our culture, our heritage, our bodies. More valuable than the beautiful web of life on earth, more valuable than home.

aaahhhh that's why he did it. He's the real Everton legend 🙏👏
You know what would be a more effective use of your resources? Pooling together your talent, money and resources and starting a company that can actually innovate and compete with oil companies.
You'd do more providing cheaper alternatives of power like solar power than wasting your energy and time sitting on a soccer field and pissing off people.

Ways to help the environment:
- try not to drive to your places
-reduce, reuse and recycle all your stuff
- find ways to go off the grid
-compost and plant all your garden for food
ways not to help:
-protest on streets
-glue your hand to ground
-litter confetti
-spray powder on plants

On your last list you forgot to include "waste food on artworks".
@Co19801003 I saw that, it was ridiculous

@@nickytanton107 They do, but that's because "un-stupid" protests rarely get any attention. Unfortunately to make a change (or at least, to inform people) you have to do something outrageous. One can say they failed considering people don't like Just Stop Oil, but they've informed more people of the issue they care for than they would have if they didn't do stuff to this degree. And that's all they can do.
People are allowing themselves to be villianised for a cause they care so much about. I think that's admirable.

@@edwardfitzgerald3877 only thing they will force this way is someone's angry fist in their faces. And their orange wests are synthetic? Plastic is made of oil....
Britain produces less than 1% of total world oil production. If Britain totally stopped producing oil other countries would just increase production and Britain would lose out on the economic benefits.
Forcing people into listening ain’t working though is it !
Other countries like Russia, China etc ARE increasing their production. China alone increases carbon emmission by double the UK's TOTAL emmissions every single year.
😭
@@loot6they are too scared to protest in countries like China and Russia bc their gov won't take their bs unlike the UK and America 😂
@@lanchan8931 Lol why would you protest IN China and Russia? 😂People have already been protesting Russia all over the world ever since the war started but none of them actually went there lol. You can protest any country from wherever you are, it happens all the time. You'd also get a much better response protesting China in the UK since China would never take any action towards climate change anyway, it's better that other countries boycott China.
You have a very weird mind lol. 😂
stopping oil is actually not a no brainer, we currently do not have the technology to safely transfer from oil to more renewable and nuclear sources, and stopping oil at once without anything ready to easily replace it would be as bad as letting oil be our only source as long as possible. I also dare just stop oil to protest in countries where they emit the most emissions (India, China, Russia, etc.).

I am not from the UK, but I am interested in understanding the Just Stop Oil protests. I understand that fossil fuels are bad for the environment, and that scientists and engineers are making breakthroughs in renewable energy. However, I am not sure what Just Stop Oil achieves by disrupting people's lives. Do they think that this will make people more likely to support their cause? Or do they think that it is simply a way to raise awareness of the issue?
lol its impossible to understand them
Stop oil is funded by heirs of oil companies.
They seek to make big oil companies more likeable by hindering the lives of common folk whom they refer to as the poors while doing nothing about the real issues.
They're basically saying to the government, we won't let this country function properly until you do as we say.
@@princestevenii.772 Terrorists do the same.
They started out disrupting fossil fuels infrastructures, but then changed tactics to focus on protests that will gain as much attention as possible. Protesting at EPL matches means they're sort of doing both, getting a lot of attention but also fossil fuels companies sponsor so much sport, and use that sponsorship to effectively buy good will among the people.

I have sympathy with their cause, but that soon runs out when they deploy tactics like this. MORE OIL PLEASE.
He says with his
- Glasses made with oil
- Clothes made with oil
- Shoes made with oil
- Tie wrap made with oil
Recording it on his phone made with oil
And they're just the things you can see. I'm sure if you got into his private life, there would be traces of oil usage everywhere.
Maybe that's why they want to reduce oil usage?
Also, those things aren't directly made using oil. Instead, you are just assuming the power used to make them and the processes involved came from oil. It very well could, but those things can easily be done without oil. Durable and reusable plastics aren't necessarily an issue, so even if he had plastic frames on his glasses for instance, it still wouldn't be a problem as it isn't contributing to climate change. Instead, plastic bottles, straws, packaging made of plastics are more of an issue as they are designed to be thrown away and not be durable.
I don't believe you understand JSO demands. They want to stop NEW oil, gas and coal projects. Existing projects aren't necessarily an issue. We are currently reliant on fossil fuels, yes. JSO don't expect us to stop using all oil and gas in a day. Like you've rightly pointed out, most things in most people's lives are made using fossil fuels. The goal is to change that, produce those things with renewable sources of energy and use materials which are more sustainable.
Their problem is how we keep funding NEW oil and NEW gas projects. This continues our reliance on oil and gas. This is a problem because money that could've otherwise gone into renewables is now going into making the problem worse.
Also, you are basically saying that these people have a choice to not use those things. Sadly, they can't control that fact. Clothing and apparel are made using many, many stages that can't be changed with just a few people doing some different things. The production is international. Whole supply chains would need to change their methods to become renewable (again, this isn't expected to happen tomorrow, but should be planned for the future). Why would you criticise people for doing something they have no control over?
Plus, I'm ignoring the massive ad hominem here. You completely fail to engage with anything he says.
@@zonger5537 You're right I do miss the point..... that's the point!
So does everybody because of the stupid way they're protesting it.
I completely agree with you about these oil projects needing to stop, but I don't see how holding up traffic is going to help that. Nor tying yourself to a football net.
Inconveniencing random people in a country that is already doing pretty well and uses a fraction of the world's oil isn't going to help anything. It just makes people think climate change is a joke for nutjobs.
That's why you have so many ridiculous climate change deny agendas suddenly surfacing. It's from people getting aggravated by shit like this. JSO turned it into a "them and us" situation, where huge numbers of people are responding emotionally not rationally. JSO have made people start actively campain against climate-saving initiatives, mostly by denying it.
