You definitely steered me towards the Bk7. I like knives for combat and can be used for yard work, and it definitely fits the bill. Used to have the Ka-bar USMC but I returned it, paid a bit more and got the 7. I'm very happy with it. Got it ready for camping with micarta scales, a Survivorcord lanyard and a skull bead. It makes a great pair with my modified Cold Steel Trail Hawk. I keep a Mora 612 Classic in my pack for the more delicate applications.
Upon seeing many of you videos I purchased a bk7. Very impressed. For a large knife it doesn't feel unwieldy at all. Keep up the good work. Look forward to viewing more.
Can't wait for the video on the step by step "Jessification" process haha. (I came up with that on my own lol) I believe you mentioned somewhere about having someone do custom G10 handles for the new one also? That would be sweet!
I know this video is old, however I’ve been struggling between getting the bk 7 and the bk 9. What one should I buy? I like bigger knives however the bk 7 looks like a great smaller knife for task around camp.
I like the knife. I did some mods on my BK9. Changed out the handle. Added a choil. And cut a piece of 1095 to fit in the back handle space so I can drill a bow drill socket. But I also ordered some 1/2 round steel stock. So I may weld a piece of that to the 1095 insert for a bowdrill socket and fit the handle to the socket. Idk. I'm still modifying it. Oh and I profiled the edge back to 15%. And I leather strop it to a mirror polish. I'm cutting the Thanksgiving Turkey with mine!
Nice video! Instead of removing the thumb ramp I used a half round file to remove the notches. Now the thumb ramp is very comfortable and useful without gloves. I also sharpened a bit of the false edge at the tip to improve it's stabbing ability. Daggers penetrate better than single edge knives. I can still baton with it just fine. I enjoy having both the BK7 and BK9. The BK9 is more single purpose chopper and the BK7 is Jack of All Trades Master of None. For some reason a 7" knife appeals to me and a 6" knife annoys me. I'm not sure why. I also love knives shorter than 4.5" and my favorite carving knife has only a 2.5" blade.
Thanks for another awesome video. I really enjoy watching yours and Will's channel. I've learned a lot and actually got to take my son out a couple times to practice some new skills. It feels good to get back in the woods again after many years of medical problems preventing that from happening.
1. thank you for the video. 2. I have a unit somewhere. 3. The usual challenge is to find a knife that: a. is sharp enough out of the box; b. has a sheath that doesn't rate throwing away; c. does not have to be modified to be functional. Especially for a person who does not know how to sharpen or modify a knife. That describes most people, and not myself. There actually are very few on the market. Moreover, if the knife is too big, it will not be carried. Such is why you recommend knives in the 4 inch to 5 inch blade length. Such is why I recommend knives in the 5 - 5.5 inch blade length, although I have a pile in the 4-5 inch blade length.
It's amazing what a little tender loving care can do, when you modify your blades, all mine are. I appreciate your thoughts and experience on this awesome blade.
I finally purchased a BK7 due to my discontent with my other knives. I added Micarta scales and have a "Kryptek Mandrake Kydex Sheath" By C4 Industries. Killer, feature rich, sheath by the way. Thanks for the recommendation! This knife is what I was looking for. I have been thinking about grinding off that thumb ramp but its not really in my way at this point.
Chris, love your insight, you have made me spend WAY too much money, and my wife hates you, lol. I have a great question. What would be a great 6-7 inch bush craft/survival, out of the box? I'm looking for micarda and maybe a kydex sheath for around 130.00? The esee 6 would be close but too short. Thoughts?
What angle (each side) do you sharpen Jessica at? I think you have it just right, as it feather sticks great, and chops without chipping/rolling the edge. I am guessing 20 deg. each side.
Pro knife man!!! I like it a lot! How exactly did you grind off the thumb ramp? I'd like to do the same modification(s), but I do not want to damage the blade (or compromise its integrity). Any specific steps or precautions?
I'm currently looking at getting this or the new kabar ek model 5. I have the small BK11 and am looking for a good two knife setup. Can anyone give me some insight to the best option?
I'm trying to decide between the bk7 and the bk10. It's going to be used for multi purpose. Such as hunting, camping, and survival. Out of the 2 mentioned which would be the best?
Ive been having a hard time pulling the trigger on a larger knife between this knife the bk2 or the rd6 with the mods ypu did yhis knife is almost perfect it reminds me of the rd6 now witch i was leaning towards the only thing stopping me was the handle the bk handles look way better any opinions would be appreciated.. especially from you chris
Hey Chris, me again. I am wanting to buy the BK 7. I have the BK2 and I like it I'm looking for more of the BK 7 style. Anyway almost everything I read online is saying that the esee 6 is a better buy. My question to you is what makes the BK 7 better than the esee 6. Please help, I don't want to make the wrong buy, because I don't have enough money for a lot of knifes, so which ever one I get I'll be stuck with. Good or Bad.
Very good looking and performing knife.Personally, I like the blacked out look, and usually I'm not crazy about larger knives but i'd give this a chance for sure.
It's like when you were a kid and they told the origin of story over again in your favorite comic book. You already knew it but it was nice to hear again
If that “thumb ramp” was backed up an inch or so, where it’s suppose to be. And if the handle scales covered it’s sides. It would be a proper thumb crotch support. To prevent painters cramps in men. Because our anatomy is different than women when it comes to the thumb. Specifically the movement of the carpal bone and ligaments. Putting it in its correct position will help with comfortability, and long term use. Schrade got that rite with the Schf 36,37,38. The Schf3N, Schf 51,52. And my favorite handle. The Schf9
an hour or so of armwork with a hacksaw will take off the thumb ramp and the extended guard. OR you could get an angle grinder for like, 10 bucks at harbor freight (though with that you need to be careful not to muss up your temper) and cut down that time to like, 20 minutes. To get a straight spine, chock it up somewhere level and secure and take the angle grinder to the spin to square it off, or get yourself a good sharp file and draw file it flat. In case of the hacksaw/file, your expenses are about, 3 bucks if you already have the saw, if you go with the grinder, it's about 10-15. Throw in some sandpaper to clean it all up and you're golden yo. Hope that helps.
Harbor fright you can get a nice belt sander for 59 bucks. I have had one for a few years. Used it on my bk7 and turned it into a bushcraft knife in about 5min.
Totally awesome!! I have a few Bushcraft knives and wanted to grab a Bk 7 to mod it at work where they have a grinder. Haha you beat me to it. Not bad for a devil worshiper lol
You should make a giveaway of that project blade. I have a BK7 with custom kudex sheath and i like it very much. I actually bought it based on your recomendation on a coule of videos a few months back. Then my Trailmaster arrived and the BK7 it's been logging shelf time ever since. Man i like the bk7 for it's utility and can do anything practicality, but some things are just love you know?
Chris, Jessica is beautiful, well put together and a 'long, tall Sally' type but a little wide in the rear end. She is also yours. Thanks to your review, Charlene (my new Schrade SCHF 10) and I have made close acquaintances. Thanks much!
I'd love to see a head to head comparison between this knife and the Falkniven A1 or Barkriver Bravo 1.5......I think your moded BK7 would fair very well while being much more economical.
Please do the tutorial series! :) You're really getting me into BK knives, but they are so overpriced here in Europe :( would you still recommend the BK7 and BK9 for a price equivalent of roughly $150? By the way, I think yours is one of the best survival stuff channels on youtube. You are confident but you don't take yourself too seriously, and I really like that. Greetings from Italy! :)
You have to consider: The 1095CV Kabar uses in these knives is basically the exact same steel that was called "Carbon-V" back in the day when Cold Steel's reputation was at it's peak. It's tough stuff. I've been using this knife for 6 years and it's taken everything I have thrown at it. So is it worth it? I think so. What matters is how does it work? How does it feel/how comfortable is it to use? How trustworthy is the steel? And because it is highly modifiable and there are loads of aftermarket handles and sheaths for it you can make yours however you want it. Get bored, and you can swap out a different set of handles or something.
PREPAREDMIND101 that's great to know, I actually thought 1095CV was just regular 1095 with a "marketing pass" on it. I'm just getting into survival and wilderness stuff and there's a lot I have to learn :) Thanks for your answer!
Very cool but I'll stick with "Natasha" lol AKA the ESEE 6. At roughly 35 bucks more (now anyway) I just think it's a better all around value right out of the box. Comes with a better handle, sheath, coating, does finite work, and chops nearly as well despite being over an inch shorter. Plus it comes with an unconditional lifetime warranty to protect your investment. The only mod I felt it needed was to the spine because, as we all know, starting a fire with a knife is just freakin cool lol. That's just my opinion and we all have one :)
People generally fall on one side of the ESEE/Becker line or the other. Personally, I can't stand the ESEE-6. I couldn't sell it fast enough. To each their own. That's the older style one. I think they've improved the handle ergos a lot. But I don't like full flats on most knives, especially the medium to large knives.
I did the opposite and sold my BK7 to my brother who pimped it out and really likes it. It's just personal taste. The BK is a sweet piece of metal, just really wasn't what I was looking for and I didn't want to put the time and money into tweeting it to my liking. Yours looks great but you seem to enjoy doing all that. It's funny though, grown men naming their knives lol. Nice to know it's not just me :)
I don't know what they used to be like but the handle fits my hand well and it's grippy. A lot of people replace them with the G10 but I never saw a need. Could just be I have little Trump hands, who knows.
Great knife, awesome mods! Ever think about getting Kbar to make a Chris Tanner signature series BK7 ? Would i buy one ? NO!!! Id buy 2, or 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ka-Bar doesn't give two squats about this channel and basically said they don't need me or any other channel because everybody already knows they are great and if you google them you get a lot of results.
WeAllJuggleKnives did you get that bullshit form letter? And that was AFTER the head guy was contacted on my behalf by ETHAN BECKER himself and AFTER the guy told me we could do something at SHOT Show. He seems to believe positive Amazon reviews carry the same weight as reviewers people trust.
WeAllJuggleKnives Yeah, that was in that letter too. I was well over 50K at that time, AND I pretty much breathed life into a mostly forgotten knife, the BK7. Even the Beckerheads aren't that big on BK7s. Yet stock got so low the prices got jacked up on them for a while. Hmmmm....?? I won't do any more knives for them, but as far as I'm concerned, Jess and Becky are mine still.
You're thereason, they sold ol these BK7 till this day. You made this knife famous and you are right, it is one of the best knives on that size. I would easily compare it to a Chris Reeve Pacific, since they make them with super stainless steels and that removes the abilities of toughness and ease of sharpening , that the BK 7 has. That's enough as a reason, to compare it with pricier knives.
still watching this video.... 24-6-2020 ... greetings from greece

KA-BAR should make a BK-7 "Jessica" model and put your mods into production.
I bought the BK7 because of your recommendation , really like it , its a great knife, love your channel thanks for all the excellent information
Old video, but still a cool looking blade!
Can't wait for the video on the step by step "Jessification" process haha. (I came up with that on my own lol) I believe you mentioned somewhere about having someone do custom G10 handles for the new one also? That would be sweet!

Hi i would love to see a video from you where you show how to write the JESSICA 1 shade on the blade..
Thoroughly Enjoyed this one Chris !!
1095 cro-van is good stuff... best part of the Beckers!
Yes, finally. I think I've wanted you to do this to the BK7 as much as you wanted to
Wow! I have never liked the BK-7 but I really like that knife a lot! I wish Becker would make a version like that! Nicely done Chris!
Well thought out and implimented mods on an already fantastic blade Chris. The BK7 combat utility. Utility is the operative word. USE the dang thing.
now that i have one, i'm waiting on the new series of fully-documented modding if you get around to doing that!
How’s the tennis grip when it gets wet and when you clean the knife ? Does it come undone ?
Awesome videos sir.
Have you done any sharpening videos?
Also will you still be doing the Schrade stripping video?
Thank you
What kind of grind/angle did you put on her ? My BK7 needs sharpening & Id really trust your advice
I am interested in putting a slide on rangerband on the handle, what size bike tube fits snug on the handle of my bk7
What angle (each side) do you sharpen Jessica at? I think you have it just right, as it feather sticks great, and chops without chipping/rolling the edge. I am guessing 20 deg. each side.
I use a 7 and 16 combo. 7 for large tasks, 16 for bushcraft. If I only take one blade I bring my esee 6, the best compromise in my "arsenal".
Hi i would love to see a video from you where you show how to write the JESSICA1 shade on the blade..
He gets someone to do that
I like making things "MY OWN" so I dig watching you Chris !
pretty cool mods! if i can force myself to put aside my cold steel recon scout i may try this mod as well to my BK.
nice job chris!
You going to do anything with that bk7 or just going to put it on display and play show and tell
Are these mods something you'd consider doing with the BK9?
Thanks, I didn't even know what the lanyard on a knife was for before watching this. Also good tip re tennis racquet tape.
When you stripped yours, do you have to do anything special to keep the factory Becker logo etching?
Pro knife man!!! I like it a lot!
How exactly did you grind off the thumb ramp? I'd like to do the same modification(s), but I do not want to damage the blade (or compromise its integrity). Any specific steps or precautions?
I keep trying to search for a "Jessica Knife", but I'm coming up empty handed... any tips?
Hey man on the bk 7 can it strike a flint rock. Not a ferro rod but the actual rock
I dont know why i havent bought one yet. Its next on my list
Is that the raw finish on jessica. Or did u treat the blade after u stripped it. Or did u just polish it?
Chris, what is the item you're wearing around your neck, attached to your paracord lanyard, in this video (well actually most of your videos)?
Im curious. How does the esee 6 fair for you compared to the bk7.
Have you considered grinding in a choir for both intricate work and to sharpen the whole edge?
What grit of sandpaper do you use to polish it
I'm currently looking at getting this or the new kabar ek model 5.
Ever seen a BK10 on my channel? Yep, and you never will.
Would you recommend the bk9 or bk7 for a first survival knife i live in Australia so they are both about 130 and I'm on a really tight budget
I'm not him but I definitely would.
You had me at "you will spend 6 bucks on some stripper"!!!!! LOL
Go Becker!!!
Hey Chris, me again. I am wanting to buy the BK 7. I have the BK2 and I like it I'm looking for more of the BK 7 style. What did you end buying?
it costs less
do u have that tennis racket tape in ur store?
Tempted to get rid of the thumb ramp and 90" my spine. i never really use the thumb ramp anyway
You've created the BushKraft 7.🙋
I like that. Good one!
I changed the title to reflect that.
😨😱🙇
If you can't see the emoji's: I'm honored! Thank you for your eminent channel.
Your one lucky guy yew
Very good looking and performing knife.Personally, I like the blacked out look, and usually I'm not crazy about larger knives but i'd give this a chance for sure.
Chris, would you consider doing a review of the bk2?
could i spray paint the handles on the bk 10
It's like when you were a kid and they told the origin of story over again in your favorite comic book. You already knew it but it was nice to hear again
Awesome! you should sell this as "BK7 - PM101 Edition"
I would buy one (or two ; )
Do you still have Jess-1 and Becky? Damn that was so long ago. So many knives ago. I still have both of mine.
I'd be interested in seeing a sheath update if that's a plan.
Hey Chris been gone for awhile .though jessica was a schrade blade ? Great review chris
Nice mods as they seem to work well for you...
Does the BK14 fit into the front of the original sheath of the BK7 too?
Scott F. Only the BK13
Thanks for the help..
The Schf9
Where can you go to modify it because I don't have that kind of money to go get a belt grinder right now
No idea. Sorry.
You might try a couple Mower repair shops?
an hour or so of armwork with a hacksaw will take off the thumb ramp and the extended guard.
***** yep. For those of us lucky enough to have a Harbor Frieght nearby...
I want to buy a big knife and idk what knife to get ! I want something cheaper than the bk9 does anyone know of a good big knife ?
Totally awesome!! I have a few Bushcraft knives and wanted to grab a Bk 7 to mod it at work where they have a grinder. Haha you beat me to it. Not bad for a devil worshiper lol
You should make a giveaway of that project blade. I have a BK7 with custom kudex sheath and i like it very much. I actually bought it based on your recomendation on a coule of videos a few months back. Then my Trailmaster arrived and the BK7 it's been logging shelf time ever since. Man i like the bk7 for it's utility and can do anything practicality, but some things are just love you know?
What did u use for the handle of the knife?
He uses a tennjs grip he mentiones it in his other jessica videos
I paid $160 for this knife in australia :((
D o that kind of review on becky cant find a good vid on the bk9. I will probobaly strip it to and blue it.
Chris, Jessica is beautiful, well put together and a 'long, tall Sally' type but a little wide in the rear end. She is also yours. Thanks to your review, Charlene (my new Schrade SCHF 10) and I have made close acquaintances. Thanks much!
I have to agree with your modifications completely. Comparing to the original design I much prefer the look and feel you've accomplished.
Great vid
I'd love to see a head to head comparison between this knife and the Falkniven A1 or Barkriver Bravo 1.5......I think your moded BK7 would fair very well while being much more economical.
The BK7 is quite a bit larger than the Bark River Bravo 1.5.
Bk7 is like the hot girl at school that everyone is in love with
Bk2 Bk7 and Bk9 are fantastic knives
That is awesome, great mod on Jessica.
Even better BK 7. Good work Chris.
Nice blade .
Is it still good if you cant mod it
Yeah, you just can't do stuff like scrape bark or use it on a ferro rod. It's been my favorite knife for years before I modded it.
Please do the tutorial series! :)
You're really getting me into BK knives, but they are so overpriced here in Europe :( would you still recommend the BK7 and BK9 for a price equivalent of roughly $150?

Got a bk2 plz do a vid on it
If I do you won't like what I say.
My Chanel has a review u could give us a try
Same with mine
I just realized the knife in his logo is Jessica.
this is the way it should be a BK-7!!!great mods!!!!!
Very cool but I'll stick with "Natasha" lol AKA the ESEE 6. At roughly 35 bucks more (now anyway) I just think it's a better all around value right out of the box. The BK 7 is like the Honda civic of knives. The after market modification possibilities are endless.
lol he said chock up again.
$6 for a stripper is a bargain too!
PREPAREDMIND101 LOL I had a similar experience with them. They don't seem to get how the internet works.
They just told me that they get a lot of requests for knives to review and can't fulfill them all. I was like damn how many subs do I need LOL.
Hmmmm....??

I love it. Would you now call it the Jessica of Jessica ' s
Jessica-Prime.
About time Chris... :-) I agree no knife is perfect out of box.
Are you going to mod your BK9 next?
Already did the 90 degree spine. I may go ahead and take off the thumb ramp like Becky 1 had.
7 years later this knife went from 50 to 100 bucks.
Pleaaaase do the bk4!
90 degree spine and a 6in ferro rod
Chris nice impersonation on the modding. U sounded like Elvis Lol
Freakin awesome Chris!
