    Just a heads up...you don’t have to remove the front bumper. Remove the wheel liner, loosen the headlight, unplug the wires, remove 2 screws holding the ballast, swap in new ballast.

    Not sure if it’s because of a different year and model but I have an 07 pre lci e90, the Torx bit for the ballast/module is actually T20. Hopefully people read this before cussing out this channel like I did while holding the headlight when they find out T25 doesn’t fit.

    Thank you for a great DIY. I just went through the do it myself bulb replacement to find the new bulb just flickered and didn't work. I am now confident it's my ballast. I am worried about the "bad cause next or cable" bit you mentioned. Is it best to buy a new ballast to bulb connector as well? I'd hate to burn up the new ballast because the $30 wire is bad haha is there a way to test the plug and wire before installing new ballast? Thank you for you patience with me. Btw what wheel specs are you running? Looks great and we have the exact same cars. Thanks buddy.

      For the e90 pre LCI I just removed the 2 screws wiggled and pulled it till I got about 1/2 an inch gap from the headlight then you see the 2 wires u need to unplug I used my phone to help guide me better so I know how to unplug them better. Its easier if you have someone with small hands to help lol

      @@Adrian-od8iu My lights were intermittent and the low beam would occasionally try to start but then fail. I replaced the high and low beam before realising it ws the ballast causing the problem. The metal connector comes off by hand but the black plastic one has to be released with a small screwdriver. Hope this helps. The job is not that hard, but rather time - consuming. Nevertheless a lot cheaper than going to a dealer.

    Have the same issue on my 335 now, but really cant be bothered with pulling the front off as I dont have a private garage to park in unfortunately (carparking building).
    This really hacks me off about BMW how they design everything to make sure 99% of owners will pay stupid prices to have what should be a SIMPLE fix done at a BMW service center because its to difficult. Who in their right mind designs something that holds a lightbulb impossible to fix without having to get under the car/wheel/remove hardparts, it should be designed that even my mother could change it!
    Paying $500+ (about US$400+) to have a damn bulb changed is just a rort and a blatent ripoff of consumers.
    Just my 2cents rant at being pissed at not being about to fix a blown headlight myself! (hell even my audi had the balast and bulb user serviceable!)

    This was an amazing video tutorial. Can you please help me out. Same thing happened to me. My headlight is cracked and water moisture is going in. I bought an $80 bulb H7. I replaced it hoping it was just the bulb. Now I see that it could be something else. What can you suggest? Could it be the ballast swell? I don't want to jump to conclusions and buy it that quick.

    • @BobbyOHearn
      @BobbyOHearn 8 років тому +1

      +RoleyO Beatz If the housing is cracked, water could have gotten to the electrical connection and shorted something out in there. It could be the ballast, but its hard to say without actually seeing it.

    You're not willing to risk an $800 light safely hanging from its attached harness...but you're willing to leave the same $800 headlight on he very edge of a ladder step 4 feet off the ground where the damage is sure. Hmmm explain your logic?

    For me the bulbs were getting way to much current to them had the junction box go bad and the fuse box . Glove box was clicking like crazy everything I removed the key .. mosttimes the light would flicker on and off and then they would all just stay on while the key fob was out of the ignition. Sometimes the key would get stuck and ill have to keep pushing it in and out to release and sometimes it never came out I would have to start the car drive around then hope that the key would release . But surprisingly enough all those issues came from a freaking failing headlight bulb 🤣🤣🤣🤣 ..

      It'll dry out on it's own if exposed to some light/warmth. But in terms of stopping more from appearing, you probably need to remove, disassemble, and re-seal the lights.

    Hi, I have a 2008 335i, had it for 7 years now. I spent $1k at the dealership for my first headlight replacement about 5 years ago. This site (www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=VB73-USA-09-2007-E90-BMW-335i&diagId=63_0918) shows that the Qty is 2 for each of the two parts I bought. Does that mean I bought twice what I needed? Still have my receipt so maybe they will fix the other one for free for me now if that is the case. LOL
