  • In this video, I’m refinishing two lane side tables using two different methods to remove the finish from each. The focus of this video will be to provide details on removing finishes using a carbide scraper and antique furniture refinisher. I also use oxalic acid to remove heavy water stains from one of the side tables. Bonus information on Barkeepers friend is also included.

    You saved two beautiful tables and let their wood tones shine through; what an incredible job.

      I am an enabler. It's kind of funny because I don't care if anybody does a shout out. It is more about getting the right tools into peoples hands to help them on their journey. I think about one of my more recent upgrades of Jorgenson clamps, and just how much it helped me to work on things. My hope is that is what happens to others. ❤

    Oh my goodness!!! When you announced that you were about to work on Lane side tables, I was on high alert, ⚠️ , as in if I had antennas, they would have been twitching back and forth... (space humor for space race time) I have inherited some acclaim pieces and a couple of cedar chests. I just love mid-century Lane and it was so fabulous to see you return them to glory!!!

    • @ReconstructingEmily

      The acclaim pieces with the dove tail veneer inlay are super cool. I really want a round acclaim side table. Everyone knows about them that owns one now so its relatively difficult to get one even in fixer upper condition for a decent price. I keep waiting though. Eventually I will find one!! 😌

      @@ReconstructingEmily I have the round hexagon base table!!! You are right about eventually finding one at the right price, as people are downsizing and they and their family don't have a clue about what they are getting rid of... edited for spelling.

    Happy New Year, Emily🥂 These tables are beautiful. I love that they don’t match but they go together. It makes my eclectic maximalist heart happy. Thank you for addressing the issue of Barkeeper’s Friend on wood surfaces. I cringe every time I see someone doing that. I think it’s lovely and kind of you to support other furniture channels the way you do. That also makes my heart happy.🌸

    • @ReconstructingEmily

      Actually both were on facebook market place! One I had a hunch - (the 1966) and it came from a storage locker cleanout. I could see the jointery on the curved sides and the inlay in their listing pictures. The art deco style was from a lady who was redecorating her house (indicated they were going to refinish but never did.) She knew what the table was but also knew its condition. I've only been seeing the Lane cedar chests and some of the particle board stuff in the Thrift stores lately.

    Excellent job on this restoration! They both turned out good as new. I might need oxalic acid for a project soon. Question for you, can the extra liquid go down the drain or does it have to be disposed of some other way?

    • @ReconstructingEmily
      @ReconstructingEmily  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you! Further dilute it and then add baking soda. It will neutralize it. I rinse it down the drain with water flowing after the baking soda has had its opportunity to work its magic. It isn't classified as a hazardous waste product.
