Not the Sims, but clearly inspired by Sims in gameplay. The Desperate Housewives game is pretty hilarious. I wish more TV shows would do sims inspired niche games.
How do I find this? Can you send me the link? I MAY want to look it up on my pc and read more about it. Is it still as good as you say in they comments? Its easy to get? Again please send me the link to it IF you CAN. Ty. 👍✌
I played a bit of IMVU and Second Life back in high school, since they were these online free-to-play games and I didn't have The Sims. They were not fun. Like, at all. The best part of IMVU was creating my avatar and her room, after which I had nothing to do and no interest in teleporting around hubs or talking to strangers. Supposedly, players can create content, but there is no way to do so in-game. Second Life was only fun when I had people helping me out, guiding me around, telling me where stuff was or how to play the game. Then they never logged back on, likely abandoning the game, and I was left with a lackluster avatar, an unprofitable "bouncy ball" shop, and a bitter taste in my mouth at the in-game classism and lack of upward mobility. Though, you can, technically, make very simple items and clothes in-game, which was nice (though you would never be able to sell them, since everyone can as well and quite a few profitable creators just give them out for free in their stores).
It's so funny to remember being 13 years old and googling "what games are similar to the sims" because I was tired of playing the sims 2 base game as I couldn't afford any DLC. And the results were none so I just kept playing the sims. It's awesome that we're finally about to have some proper competition. Btw amazing video!!
this video is so nostalgic to me! as a kid when my family's old pc broke, my parents banned us from playing the sims 1 or 2 on it when we got a new one 😭 I remember spending hours just watching sims 2 cutscenes on youtube and looking for alternatives to the sims and I played a lot of weird shovelware that mimicked the sims. I don't remember the names of them but they were like doll house games where you watch the characters live their life. Smallworlds is another social mmo, though this one was more targeted to preteens and above. i was on it a lot as a kid just messing around. And don't forget Habbo as well! There's also Stardoll, which is more fashion based and like if a dress up game was an mmo. i was obsessed with stardoll as a kid and anything The Sims adjacent.
this was such a fun video! i love anything The Sims and it's so much fun to look at all of the other life sim attempts. you should do a video about life by you sometime! they were a life sim game that was worked on for years and was set to release in a few months until it was suddenly scrapped, i think you might be able to find something interesting in that :)
I wanted to answer this question of "Why we don't have Sims competitors for the past 20 years?" and I think you answered it. General lack of reach like online only (Second Life and IMVU), although it is more of a competitor to the Sims Online than the mainline PC version. Singles gives me unpleasant flashbacks lol. It is a direct competitor to Sims Hot Date, but it didn't go far as you mentioned, it has limited scope. Tried Kudos before and it is pretty hard to get the mechanics, and yes it is less immersive compared to Sims 1 or 2 back then because of the text-driven gameplay. Playstation Home is an interesting one, though I think this is just a console version of Second Life to me. I like the Movies too! It is more of a business/tycoon game than a life Sim, but fun nonetheless.
I think it would be really cool if you talked about the “Virtual Families” line of games and games made by “Last Day of Work”. They are old life sim games but I never see anyone mention them.
0:16 the sims franchise doesn't lack quality, sims 4 does. The earlier games are gold, especially sims 3. People only see the dumpster fire that is sims 4 and then generalize that the sims is a bad game. It's not, you're only playing the worst sims game.
I think the game called "Supple" should've been on this list. They directly referenced The Sims in their trailer. LOLLL But this was a good list overall! Great research!
SL kinda lead me into 3d modelling, but as a game I see SL being more like roblox in a way than sims, sure you have life sim aspects, but depending on what you play is more a do what u want type of game.
I am 65 and love Sims! I have every expansion pack/kit and stuff packs. I love building and I love my legacy family and all their pals. It’s like grown up Barbies. The whole mobile thing scares the shit out of me. Who can build great builds on a mobile game and who wants someone else’s strange sim infiltrating my sims world. I may be a dinosaur but I promise to buy any pacs n kits to keep Sims alive! There are so many people that absolutely LOVE this game! YOUNG people too! EA please don’t leave your faithful fans out in the cold!
Wow, this was a nostalgia trip! Sad to see Life By You go, had high hopes for it. Guess we'll have to put our hopes in InZoi, eh? I played SL so much since my 18th birthday, was part of the biker club, had a blog, then another blog. Then mesh bodies happened and I lost interest, with the direction it's been going. Loved the dress up and the clubbing scene there, so much variety. Loved the Movies, never pitted it against The Sims, it was more of a management game (akin to Hotel Giant, Restaurant Empire and the like) than a life simulator. Unfortunately, I could never make it to Year 2000, somehow the game kept glitching and the filming crew refused to go on sets around year 1990 or so. I'd like to add Fame Academy to your list. A relatively obscure/forgotten game where you had to play as an aspiring star, who would train for his/her shows while maintaining the vitals and the Popularity level. It was pretty simple, but I liked its vibe and the focus on stardom. Cool video, happy to see YT Algorithm having picked you 💜
I was too young for any of these games but I remember very clearly finding the singles game in my sisters collection and being freaked out by it. For context my sister is 10 years older than me. 😂
I don't remember much about IMVU. I think it must have been free to play and most likely a browser game, since my sister was able to get her hands on it. I was about maybe 8 or 9 when my sister first showed it to me saying it was like the sims 2 (we didn't have sims yet, but we played it once on our cousin's computer) and she showed me a little bit of the game. I only really remember creating an avatar and few seconds of gameplay, but in my memory, I remember the quality was pretty bad, the avatars looked kinda good but kinda ugly, colors were dull, grayish and there was a lot of bloom on the lighter colors that made it look like they were shiny (which is really one of the problems I had with Life By You graphics). As a kid I wasn't really that interested in making a character but rather what can you do in the game, and so my sister making the avatar wasn't very interesting to me, just a bunch of pictures of clothing and a character to dress. Once we got past that, really the only next thing was a bunch of other avatars in a boring and plain environment that were standing out in the worst way possible (kinda a dark blob of pixels on an empty background), a few dialogue options(?) and people with text popping over their heads. I hated reading things in games, so I definitely wasn't up for that, and just how odd and ugly everything seemed with that random text showing up over people's heads just weirded me so much, that I refused to see more of it. That was my entire experience.
Not sure about this list. the Singles is actually only similar game to the sims. Campus: Student Life Simulation Big Brother Brazil Pop Life Coffee Break Desperate House Wifes With this list, we could add Hotel Habbo and many other social games. Still thanks! great video with a lot of cool content
I play Sims 3 on my pc and Sims 4 on my console. Never got the chancr to play ANY of the games talked about on here. Other than Sims 3 and Sims 4. Did NOT have a pc or lap at the time either. Oh well. Ty for the video at leaste it wax interesting to hear about some of those older games. 👍🖕

@@TheDawnofVanlife ah I forgot about it! It was an interesting game though. With similar voice actors and I think Brenda Strong narrated as well
@@westanimesims it was also written by writers from the show, story-wise it really feels like it has a soul
fun fact you can play sims online via a server called FreeSO its been around for years and its a great community
aww I didnt know that! so cool ✨
Thx i have to check it out!
I played it at its dawn (back in 2017) but was driven away by Rhys, the lead dev who was an absolute douche. Hopefully things changed since then.
How do I find this? Can you send me the link? I MAY want to look it up on my pc and read more about it. Is it still as good as you say in they comments? Its easy to get?

aww thank you for sharing gonna check out the titles you mentioned as well, I had never heard of them
I remember creating account for IMVU only to never log in there xD I don't know why I even did it xD
Lots of toxic people on there back when I played it so you did a wish choice never playing it again

The video is interesting but my tipp is that you have subtitles because you have a thick accent its a little bit hard to understand you😅
I can hear her fine 🤷♀️
I always thought IMVU meant "I Envy You" because it sounds like that lolll - funny the creator didn't mean to do that
