    Bryan my husband and I were in Hwange last September and saw Cecil and Jericho for 2 days and heard them outside our tents in Somalisa. I heard this yesterday and am devastated. We are trying to find out what can be done to stop this senseless hunting - greed and stupidity. This is a huge loss of a magnificent creature - but as you said so well - the bottom line for so many is a major loss as well. The parks and government should be whiplashed. This is beyond disgusting. Basically a Canned Hunt as this animal and his pride are very conditioned to humans. AND he was a collared lion being researched and tracked for years. He and Jericho are old lions who formed a pride - very rare indeed we learned.
    The person who did this is the biggest loser alive. I would like to see who it is and post his or her face all over the globe and thankfully social media will let us do that. We have footage of Cecil, Jericho and the girls and are so thankful. Don't know how his females can survive. How will Jericho survive. How does anyone pull their bow and shoot to kill something so beautiful. Disgusted in the U.S.

      ***** Hunting isn't murder, that's just silly ad hominem. However, the killing of this lion was terrible and very unethical. The hunter in question is not a representative of the majority of hunters, he is a scumbag who cheated to kill a protected animal. First of all, this hunt did not employ any sort of fair chase standards. The animal was killed at night after chasing a bait that was dragged to lead him out of the park. The PH involved in this hunt did not have a permit, meaning this was an illegal hunt to begin with. So far, some of the people involved have been arrested and it is my hope the rest of them go down too.
      Make no mistake, hunters contribute more time and money to conservation efforts than people who claim, "hunting is murder."

    • @knightandmagic141
      @knightandmagic141 9 років тому +1

      Redbird More ad hominem by anti-hunters. How much money have you given to conservation efforts this year? I can tell you I have given well over three grand alone in sales taxes for hunting gear, permits, and conservation range fees.
      40% of all conservation funding is from hunters and hunting sales. 30% is from Federal funding. That means 30% is from donations, which can be from both hunters and non-hunters. But the reality is, almost half of the money given to conservation efforts is paid by hunters.

      +Steadystrike He was a protected lion. He was enticed out of the the protected area by dragging raw meat behind a truck. Obviously Cecil followed them and then was killed off of the reserve. UAV marky If someone didn't pay $ to kill him. Someone may have paid with their life to be cut out of him after he ate them.I say It is a great deed for anyone to kill any dangerous animal. And the African people are some of the poorest people in the world the $ paid for a hunt may feed some starving people or save a human from the jaws of a beast. So big game hunting is a win, win for everyone.

    • @LittleMustangMare
      @LittleMustangMare 9 років тому +1

      Magerikk THIS is not hunting its POACHING! Hunting IS necessary a necessary evil but still necessary in terms of conservation. a REAL hunter kills for food and for conservation/population control in human populated areas so that the rest of the animals may flourish in the area without causing accidents with humans i.e too many deer in an area and they over eat the grass and undergrowth then wander out and get hit by cars or too many bears in one area and they have to expand their territory in order to avoid other bears and end up encroaching on human properties then someone gets hurt because the bear finds out that left over spaghetti is better than searching the woods for berries and squirrel

    • @tanaman7111
      @tanaman7111 9 років тому

      Magerikk I know this isn't the right place for this, but literally the main objective in WoW is to kill things. Not saying I condone it in the real world by any means, but lets just say I giggled when saw your comment and read the first sentence :D

    • @CaptainBill22
      @CaptainBill22 9 років тому +1

      Magerikk There's nothing wrong with hunting in the very least. Over hunting is bad for the environment, and under hunting is even worse for the environment. Take the white tail deer in New York State for instance. They have no real predators like wolves and the state is pretty heavy handed with gun laws and hunting which leads to over population. Therefore the leading the cause for many cars getting totaled and high insurance are deer. Not to mention the damage they do to crops and property. We caused this by over hunting wolves.

    What doesn't come to mind is the thought of killing him for sport or trophy. Does the coward dentist see the Sistine Chapel's ceiling and wish to fingerpaint over it? I simply cannot understand such men.

    Right now LBC radio in the UK is discussing why people overwhelmingly care passionately for a lion, in this case we have a name, Cecil, and not for the Samalian who died yesterday in the Channel Tunel whilst trying to illegally enter from France to the UK. My immediate reaction is that these magnificent animals are becoming extinct! The Samalians, mostly economic migrants, now a few thousand are not, sorry for this view or feeling but these people are causing so much havoc in France and the UK!! Cecil's Cubs apparently are in great danger of being killed by a male lion of which there are 6? all due to blood line. This bloody American dentist who has a home in the U.S. has it filled with loads of stuffed animals he's killed before Cecil so I hope he suffers badly for what he's done!

    The incident is not Palmer’s first brush with authorities.
    In 2008, he pleaded guilty in federal court in Wisconsin to misleading a federal agent in connection with the hunting of a black bear. Two years earlier, Palmer had killed a bear near Phillips, in Price County. That location was 40 miles outside of the zone where he held a permit to hunt bear.
    Palmer and others transported the bear carcass to a registration station inside the allowed hunting zone, according to court documents, and at the station, he falsely certified that the bear had been killed in the legal zone. Facing a maximum penalty of five years in prison, Palmer was sentenced to one year’s probation and fined nearly $3,000.
    In the spring of 2003, Palmer was convicted in Otter Tail County in western Minnesota and paid a small fine for fishing without a license, a misdemeanor.
    And in 2009, Palmer agreed to a settlement with the Minnesota Board of Dentistry over allegations that he sexually harassed a receptionist. She alleged that Palmer made comments about her breasts, buttocks and genitalia.
    Without admitting guilt, Palmer settled and paid $127,500 to the woman, who also was his patient.
    The settlement included references to his bear-hunting conviction and “substandard record keeping.”

    While I do support hunting of regulated overpopulated/plentiful species It is truly sad to hear about hunters clearly disregarding conservation and hunting declining/endangered populations of animals is a truly abysmal act of humanity. Sadly money talks. I am troubled to have grown up only a town away from the hunter. Things like this happen all the time. Glad at least one case of this is being publicized
