You've used snap rings that have eyelets. BB30 spec requires VHM42 snap rings otherwise the bearing seal can rub against the eyelets and you end up with a load of drag, and a leak path. In addition you are instructing your viewers to reuse a bearing that has brinnelled because the method of removal bangs the inner race.
It doesn't matter, we aren't pros and we don't mind having an extra 12 watt drag. I've never had any BB30 creaks either it's sn excellent system. I still watch all your videos though I learn a lot about them.
That´s good to know. Would you consider doing some mtb related content? I still like to watch your videos even though I don´t now a road bike, so mtb content would be really appreciated.
How much force would be required to brinnell the balls into race? is that in the s pec sheets? I Imagine cheapo would be softer race and quality harder ?
Very true, but for us amateurs we are less likely to mess it up using the snap rings with eyelets as supplied by Cannondale / fsa in their kit as they seem to be easier to install, at least for me I checked in case they dragged, but can see there should be no issue I had first used a snap ring but messed it up / twisted it out of true, which was definitely dragging The good news is that the bearings I bought from you are working great..... And yeah, after all that hassle, it does not make much sense to reuse the bearings unless you have no choice
Have had many issues with creaking BB30 and PF30 bottom brackets in my Cannondales. The thing that really has helped me get rid of the creaking is to install the bearings and the cups with a medium strength thread locking compound
Ah wonderfull! At last somebody who can film the hole operation with always a perfect angle of vision (without having his hands hiding the subject) and weel focused. Also really well explained! Thank you!!
I have no idea why people are so anti BB30... it's a really simple light system, cheap to replace the bearings.... they spin nicely. As long as you don't install s&^t bearings they last for ages. Nice one Danny!
I have almost 100,000 miles on a tarmac since 2015 with A BB30 and never had problems or squeaking its like all bike parts they must be maintained I clean and repack every chain change I get 30k miles out of my bearings in Hawaii plenty of rain and sand 👍🏽
I’ve had the same bearings in my bb30 since 2014 and it’s only started creaking in the last couple weeks. Only issue I have with bb30 is that your limited with crank options.
Great clear instructions. FIRST MISTAKE IS BUYING A BB30 BIKE! XD Id never buy a BB30 bike again in my life. Pity because the system sounded cool and light. BSA all the way for me now.
Great video, but BB30 is rubbish. As a mechanic I see so many customers with creaky BB’s..... if BB30 was so good? Why so many issues. Shimano hollow tech 2..... the best.
Can someone explain to me what he was doing in the last 45 secs of the video. Seems important not to share. The part where he is using the allan keys to tighten/loosen the shaft.
Excellent video and instructions. I, too, have not had problems with BB30 (many bikes and 15+ years). One suggestion, particularly for home mechanics: install/press one bearing at a time for ensuring bearing goes in straight. As in your video, the initial hand insertion is always just a bit misaligned. Thanks for the video.
Just noticed that you put grease on the bearing seal then added the bearing shield, good to know, I was wondering if that would help keep water out. I’ve been thinking of putting some really sticky marine grease there to keep everything out, will give it a try
Great video, i wish you could have actually recorded the creaking noise that a faulty BB makes. So as to determine if its a BB or pedal issue. Because thats what im experiencing now. Though i think its the pedal.
If you’ve never had problems then you are very lucky. My Caad 8 creaks like an old wooden door! Planning on using a Praxis or Wheels Mftg unit to convert to 24mm Shimano.
Your bearings were probably not pressed correctly, I have home made bearing press,,use new bearings go slow make sure they are going in straight and don’t force them if they tilt and bind up, I’ve had no more or less creaking/problems with threaded BSA. BSA cup still have bearings pressed in. Cannondale basically invented BB30 threaded with their magic crank system in 1993
I'm using my caad12 for 7 months with 5000km. First creaking after 2000km. I pressed the bearings in with grease. Same procedure after another 2000km solved the creaking again. Now it is creaking again. This time I used Loctite 641 retaining compound. I really hope this solves the problem for longer...🙈
BB30 was a disaster for me after multiple attempts to resolve including cleaning and conversion kits... I ended up getting rid of the bike.. Can we please just go back to threaded bottom brackets.
I have a 29er with 2 bb bearings. Sram. No cups or sleeves or spacers. Just 2 bearings. 2013 lefty. No issues. Have not seen this type of bb on UA-cam. Many miles in the dirt. I don't know that much about bikes. Maybe just lucky? I did switch my shock from xlr to pbr. Swapped out stans wheels for mavic ust. 8 years with no problems.
Hi, very good video! Thanks. I have 2019 cannondale sinapse 105 carbon disc, and it has BB30a. Is it the same as on the video or bearings are different compared to bb30? It the asymmetry solved by the positioning of bearings inside the frame or bearings are different? Thanks, Milan
When I did the BB30 on my Slate, I bought the Park Tool BB30 tool and was able to neatly remove the bearings. However, when I tried installing the new ones, the bearings cocked, I got scared and had the bike shop press them in.
Does this hex wrench have enough moment arm to lock a crankset? I have a problem once using the same tool. So I had to use a long tube as adapter to tightly lock a crankset.
Yeah I am here because I have bad squeak on cannon dale factory installed original bb. And cranks. Never mind that you never saw it. That is why almost everyone is here.
although, obviously everything went fine here, technically you shouldn't press in both bearings at the same time, but one after another --> less risk of getting them misaligned
bb 30 to totalna katastrofa zawsze pika klika itd po 2 000 km zawsze go słychać bb 30 to totalne dzaidostwo szkoda kasy nerwów i czasu nie polecam nikomu
That "Made in Taiwan" sticker on the bottom of the frame is a disappointment. I'm glad i still have the 1997 Cannondale F500 that says "Handmade In USA" :-)
White Knight I have a 2002 Cyclocross Ultra. Also Handmade in USA. The newest one is 2016 Slate 105 made in Taiwan, with a BB30 that I wore out last year.
Except the 1997 handmade in USA is not up to quality with Taiwan made modern bikes. Let’s face it, all modern high spec bikes are now made in Taiwan. Pinarello included

@@2321brendan tapping it out would be enough. It's not so much the force, it's the blow. Every bearing manual explicitly says to avoid doing this.

Poor manufacturing standards. It is very difficult for them to make a perfectly round hole
Great video as always. Rebuilding My CAADX frame and new bearings and crank back in is firs5 job
great close-up camera work on this.

great little video im glad i watched this before fitting it
Very thorough explanation and descriptive video. Thanks
first and last time for me BB30 bike. will replace all parts witrh industrial standart soon .for example SKF bearings
What is that exact Super B bb press tool called? So i can check if there’s any available here.

If a bike doesn't have a threaded bottom bracket, I won't buy it anymore. It is up to the end user what they buy and what they don't.
same here, i would never buy a pressed fit bb again. Sold my CAAD12 today, so happy.

how abaout internal cabel routing inside bb? are had some friction with the crank?
Mistakes to avoid:
1. Buying a bike with a BB30 bottom bracket.
I am wondering why there is no sleeve between the inner races of the two bearing, like it is in the hubs...

Can u make vid how to remove & reassembled BB30A? (Cannondale synapse or caad) 👍
Wow what a simple concept!

Is it ok to use grease with teflon instead of aluminium?
Why I like threaded BBs. Pretty tough to screw threaded BBs up.
Hey Danny can you point to us a desent set of tools and where to buy from? .thanks in advance.
Really helpful video. Thanks for posting.
Cyanoacrylate glue might stop the movement. Grease wont because well you knowwhat grease does.
Good information 👍
use the proper snap rings for 1

In 9:44 the caliper measures 2.3mm
I never press 2 in at the same time
Would 28mm tires fit on a caad 8 ?
I believe 28's will fit any CAAD frame.
8:35 It'll be better only one bearing at one time!
My advice is: don´t invest any time/money in a bike with press fit.
BSA was too good
Does bb30 come in different size? I mean the the outer diameter of the bearing.
Made in Taiwan. Great!
