This episode did SO MUCH, yet all the story and character beats still hit home. Incredible writing and acting. Especially Stark’s VA, give that man a raise!
At the beginning, I was like, "they're not going to show the 'one change' for this episode, because there's clearly way too many differences going on here." And then they managed to do it with a simple "What If... Steve accidentally destroyed the Time Stone during Infinity War?" Amazing.
Banner is wearing an Iron Mask in his first scene. Iron Masks were used as a form of punishment in medieval times. This was SUCH a great episode and makes me want to read the Nail Gaiman 1602 Avengers story.
As a huge fan of the book I was worried for this but they did a great job I like that they kept plot elements from the original like Steve being the one from the future. Still wish they would do a whole series of this universe.
I love that you caught that Steve has his Wakandan shield, not the normal one. That combined with the beard are the hints to when he came from before it's confirmed he's the forerunner.
Another hint is that he's a take on Robin Hood, whose stories take place during the Crusades, not the Elizabethan Era. He's a blatant anachronism the whole time.
This was such a crazy and fun penultimate episode, especially since I loved the Medieval fantasy setting. I cannot wait to see what happens in the Season 2 finale.
By far my most favorite episode!!! Wanda😍❤️, two Hulks smashing! Steve😍❤️, Captain Carter❤️, Bucky and Scott❤️❤️ and overall interactions was awesome!! Makes me miss the Marvel of old even more! I wonder if doing a rift of What if in live action would have been better than what we got in the multiverse saga. Wouldn’t mind getting action figures or statues based of these characters
Fun fact (I already posted this in another video, so I'll just paste it here dor convenience.) The whole thing about Captain America being sent back in time and then cause the Marvel heroes to exist in the year 1602 is actually also adapted from the comics. In the comics, the universe of Earth-460 is taken over by Purple Man (Killgrave from Jessica Jones if you remember him), who has become president, putting the entirety of America under his control. The Captain America of Earth-460 is a rebel against Purple Man, so he was captured and sent back in time to the late 16th century. Captain America's presence in the 16th century has caused a Butterfly Effect that led to other Marvel heroes existing much earlier in history than intended and then become superheroes by the year 1602, creating a new separate universe known as Earth-311. Captain America adapts in Earth-311 and settles down with Native Americans. I'm really surprised they took elements of that and then tweaked it so that Cap was sent back in time simply by pure accident.
Enjoyed this one, but it's kind of hard to top episodes 6+7 for me. That said, I've always been interested in the 1602 universe so it's cool to see it get an adaptation. Random tidbit: The subtitles on Disney Plus say "Wanda Merlin" when Wanda's talking towards the end of the episode.
But heroes refusing to accept that is also why I think the watcher will keep breaking his oath and doing what he can to help when he can. He wants to see the good guys win
I think everyone except for Steve Rogers was actually supposed to be there, in 1602. That universe was just like that. You'll notice that Steve was fighting Thanos alone. Thor, Loki and/or Hela might have also been part of the effort against Thanos, of course, but their 21st century selves, not the ones we see in 1602. There's no telling who else was or wasn't part of the equivalent to the Avengers. Wakanda was certainly still involved. And no reason Dr. Strange wouldn't be too, of course. Maybe he primed the time stone to do what it did as a Hail Mary.
To be fair, I don't think that Ultron was sprinkled throughout the whole previous season if I remember correctly. Ultron only popped up in the second to last episode and we got the info on what happened to him and his universe in the opening minutes of that episode. I was wondering myself how this season would wrap up thinking the final episode was a 2 part episode last time when I was just misremembering. This season has had more build up and teasing than the previous one, and I've also enjoyed it overall a lot more too.
This episode really got my imagination going. I haven’t read the 1602 book, but being a fan of marvel comics I immediately thought I would love to see a 1602 Version of Doctor Doom or maybe the Black Knight? I think the Christmas episode and this one are my favorites! But, they all have been top notch!

This Has to be my Favorite Episode of the Series so Far I Just saw it and it was so Awesome, The Year 1602 is So Awesome, but why did Everyone Disappear when the Tear in Reality was Sealed? That is another Mystery that maybe Resolved in the Next Episode.

Avengers going British and everyone speaks old British language (Shakespearean Language). That is kinda new to me since I don't know the comics that was based from.
The changes in this from the book were all FANTASTIC, which is NEVER something I say. And it’s one of my favorite comics of all time, so that’s REALLY impressive, in my opinion. The very best change, I think, was adapting Loki to be a Shakespearean actor as a nod to Tom Hiddleston’s real life origins in the Shakespearean ranks. “Aw, bless” 🤣❤️
It definitely wasn't what I expected, but it was fun, without a doubt the best battle was Rogershood vs. Sir Hogan.🤣 PS: Wanda always shows great power, although I feel like they could have used her better, they had the excuse that maybe she was holding back because she was helping Captain Carter and show a little more of her abilities, but I'm glad having seen her again.🥺
