They're overhauling planets. They're not going to re-invent the wheel. Terrian and biome generation has been heavily worked on for Light No Fire. That same tech on a smaller scale will likely be used in NMS. It makes zero sense to keep the tech strictly for Light No Fire. Both games are likely using the same engine too. This is also their opportunity to demonstrate the technology to prove it to works. If they blow away NMS with the tech it's going generate a lot of hype on it's own for Light No Fire.
Dynamic planets would be cool. Where we land on a planet and it has random weather or random areas within a planet that is hot, cold, radiated, and / or toxicated.
I just started so adrift has been my first expedition and this will be the first major update I've seen. Looking forward to what's next (and the continuation of your beginner playthrough series ❤)
I really hope they do a terrain generation update soon. I feel like with everything they’ve learned, especially from what we’ve seen of light no fire that it’s about time No man’s Sky gets it. I think it would really make the game even better than it already is. Make it a tad more realistic.
I wouldn't mind a planet reset if they add planetary controls in the atlas mission (like pick some values to tweak), and the planet marked on your star map.
I bought it the day it came out but only played for a few months, but I have recently gotten into it again. I have never experienced a galaxy reset. Did he say it resets the planets? Does that mean our personal inventory and freightors will be fine?
I'm on vacation this week, so I'm counting on Xbox to bungle this update again and leave me waiting until I'm back at work to enjoy whatever new stuff we get. But I'm looking forward to whatever it turns out to be! Thanks for getting the word out for those of us who avoid twitter!
With this update, I really hope they give us a lot more ship garage slots! With all the different expedition ships and the customization ships, we need more.
ya know, a thing to do would be a sorta deep storage system, like a type of landing pad, that you can make like a garage for all your ships, can only have 12 in your active summons, but you can swap those out in your garage or at a console or something ... maybe... I'd personally like a way to look at all my ships stats and inventories withought having to summon each one, so i can manage them a bit better.

They could build that function into the game, maybe make it cross save. I have been collecting ship parts, but I really haven't built anything yet because I don't want to fill up my ship slots.
what could we get that most people often ignore? Settlement Overhaul. I mean think about it, it's interesting to own and manage a settlement but, the system we have is oddly bare bones and doesn't feel as cohesive as it could be with the rest of the game, you gain a settlement get it up and running, and once its supplying a positive income they just kinda get abandoned. Unlikely but I think it's possible.
I agree that on the memory department I assume there is room for improvements in how assets are loaded in and the strange hickup when leaving a planet's atmosphere.
I strongly disagree with the idea that they're doing another reset. With the amount of bases out there, I'm sure there would be a lot of people who are upset. I know there's a loud group asking for one, but HG hasn't really (to my knowledge) reached out to the community about how they'd feel about a reset. My guess, which could be completely wrong, could be some new planets. If the Earth represents 'home' it might be something to do with bases and settlements Edit: Guess I was wrong lol

Someone else mentioned the idea of planets with different biomes and environmental hazards. I feel this makes sense since they'll have to have a really good handle on multiple biomes for LNF and no doubt they've learned a lot about it during development.
I think this update is planets finally getting some attention. New flora and fauna. I think some flora will have some breeze/wind movement patterns to it, fauna will have new routines. I think we will see more varied outposts. Outposts are so generic, you know what/you’re coming across before you even land. I think there will be some kind of new building to come across as well. In general, planets won’t be as boring as they currently are. Would love to see a bounty hunting system implemented like the derelict freighters. You go into a building and have to clear it out planetside and find the target inside.
I meant if it’s a galaxy reset I feel like that’s a big update because last time they did that I feel like I was playing kind of like a new no man sky game and I feel like if they do that they’re probably gonna add some content on the side just like the other reset of no man’s guy🤷♂️😊

Here's my $0.02. I now look at NMS as a public test server for LNF. So with that in mind, what if they do an overhaul of the planet generation and include multiple biomes. If they were to limit planets to 2 or 3 biomes and they need to be similar in range. Just spit balling really. It'd be interesting. Or maybe super planets with multiple bioms will show up.

It seems everyone has forgotten about the space station overrides! I'd love for them to finally have a function that has as large of an effect as it seems it should
I'm gritting my teeth if they do a Galaxy reset. But if it helps to correct the graphics issues involving textures not loading completely, I'm all for it. I literally had to go in my Xbox save so that I could record one of my builds from my PS4 save. As for the Nintendo switch version of the game, Nintendo needs to get Back to Basics with building consoles again. Cuz these little tiny units can't handle the load and create a cloud save so they can transfer the data to the consoles.
I do feel for the galaxy resets and all the base building. However, the same thing happened to Next Update. People were upset, but it DID give us better base building and brought us to where we are now.

My idea on how to add random planets without removing bases or resetting everything would be to make an algorithm that does the following: 1. If it finds an undiscovered system, that system immediately gets a reset and has randomized new planets. 2. If there is a discovered system, but there are undiscovered planets, they receive the changes based on planet type. 3. Any planets with many or large bases, or occupied settlements are exempt from this reset. Thus, leaving behind legacy worlds and builds. That's my two cents, though. Heck, HG might have taken this into consideration before me. Anyways, feel free to share your thoughts.
I just want to walk inside my own ship like we can in star citizen...If I were the developer, that would be the first thing I would do. It adds so much to the atmosphere

The only time they wiped bases was NEXT (July 2018) when they changed the way bases worked. Before NEXT you could only have one base and predetermined locations. If they wipe bases there will be a hate-storm the likes of which has not been seen since launch. NEXT also re-rolled planets and made major changes to planet generation. I don't think Beyond (Aug 2019) re-rolled planets. Origins (Sept 2020) re-rolled flora and fauna and caused mass extinctions. Planet terrain was not changed most planets did not change biomes, some did change to alternate version of their previous biomes (some hot planets became volcanic, some lush became swamp) and planets were added so some system. I think this may be a Beyond level game overhaul that will effect many system, but I do not think planet generation will be the main focus. If new planet types are added they will be new planets added to existing system or new systems added to the game. I don't think we will see multi biome planets or terrain changes to existing planets. I'm hoping for more flora and fauna but not betting on it. I think the biggest single part of this update will be multi player overhaul. They will import the multi player network architecture developed for Light No Fire and a global network infrastructure that will be shared with LNF. "play the world". This will also include a complete overhaul to the mission system. Other changes could include. New ground combat boss battles (maybe dungeon raids). Overhaul legacy Points of Interest making them more procedural, improving appearance to be more in line with recent additions. maybe added new PoIs. Optimization of base building parts, many of which have way too many polygons. Limited clan support, possible shared bases. More unique ship parts that can be obtained from mission rewards, guild rank, or dungeon raids. Re-balance of all legacy game mechanics adding more depth/ unique abilities to each. This update (I think) will be about "global" changes to the game.
This video is hilarious... "it won't be a major overhaul... just a full galaxy reset!". The first part of that is right... but it won't be a reset. When they last changed things and extincted my friends outside my bases (with with remarkable pin-point accuracy), that was Origins. And clearly I still have those bases, because there was no reset with that one. I had a nice lush bash that turned into a swamp, but the terrain and the base were still there. The fancy new terrain they added was put on new planets... and there's still plenty room for more. In short, they can add and change things a lot without a reset, so why would they. People might think that's what's needed to get a lot more procedural variation into the game... but the thing is, progen has this curse called "human pattern recognition". There's already a large amount of variation but people put into a small of boxes (glossing details) to deal with it better... and if you increased things by an order of magnitude, they'd be calling for more in few days, because human pattern recognition would take that 10x variation and collapse it to about the same number of boxes as before, but with a couple more. And that's what makes it cursed... you can put in a major effort and buy 3 days and have people think that things haven't changed that much at all. All because people are very good at mentally boxing things. Its a losing battle.

As well as whatever they have planned, i really hope we will be able to upgrade freighter classes. Having to sit for potentially hours just reloading a save and repeating the same battle over and over to try and get an S class is tedious and immersion breaking! We can upgrade everything else, it only makes sense!
I have no idea what the cowboy could mean, but if they're adjusting planets then i would love to have more realistic planet physics, as in there is a higher gravity on larger planets and lower on smaller ones, not just barron moons that have low gravity regardless of their size
They pretty much did say that on the expedition description! "Removing other lifeforms means no shops, no trading, no shortcuts and no help, providing a very different survival experience." :) was a good feeling going back to almost day 1 NMS!
If they do a galaxy wipe on bases (except your main base) that would hurt me hard. I have a small outpost with portal in every galaxy. Took months to get them all set up.
Pie in the sky wish is for an updated proc-gen system that can do stuff like cliffs and beaches better, some kind of trickle down thing from the LNF work they've been doing. Although I NEED it to be a Light No Fire update... would be cool if the LNF twitter thingy did a planet tweet as well just to mess with us all
Please let us have "eva" extra vehicular activities (in space) and player buildable space bases. There is a Lot of other great ideas about improvement, but this would be my wish for the update. Think about claiming empty flyable vessels in the emptyness of Space. Standing on asteroids. The scene in adrift where you are flying without ship in space teased me hugely about that.
I got the Origins DVD and it sat on the shelf until just before the Omaga ex. I have 3 or 4 mains with at least 90+ hours. I hope they don't reset the Galaxy. If I lose my bases/saves I would probably crawl in my bed and cry.... If I have to start over I'll have a nervous breakdown.....
While I know it's gonna be a NMS update but how cool would it be if it was both a major update for NMS and another trailer for LNF not a release date trailer but just another trailer maybe announcing what systems it'll be coming to.

Question, I got back into NMS after 2019 with a new main save file, if they do a base/structure wipe does that include anything that we can use as markers? Like I've found several really good Mould farm locations that I built simple structures at, is there anything that I can put at the locations that would survive the wipe so I could rebuild there? Assuming the runaway mould locations still remains after the update.
If it is a content update it probably update online services. Add Nintendo switch to it. Make it more fluent. Add freighters to the things that people can see
I respect you tempering your expectations, Jason. However, I still think there will be another tease for Light No Fire. Perhaps we'll see a release date. First off, Earth is a very specific emoji to choose, not just any planet, Earth. Secondly, July is a quiet month for game announcements; they'll be able to maximize their press exposure and hype. Sean would not be posting so much for something as meager as a rebalance to planet tech or a new planet type. As for how he'll differentiate NMS posts from LNF posts, I expect he'll change his X avatar to something LNF related at the same time. So here's hoping we see a new trailer tomorrow. Multiple biomes per planet. More variety of biomes and the flora and fauna. That's my bet. I think they are going to import some of the new tech they have developed for Light No Fire, meaning greater variety per location.
What if the update is in fact a $20 purchase of a link that leads you to the Light No Fire planet and you can start your adventuring there instead of buying a whole new game ? Wouldn't that be a cool reward to the thousands of loyal players for all the years of support ?
You can't build new ones? So, what are you doing now that they are built? Nothing. It would give you something to do rebuild. It's not like a base really matters. If you couldn't build one the game doesn't change.

hopefully they will add new planet type like gas giants with floating bases or maybe new hazard type of high pressure planets or something.

This video is hilarious... "it won't be a major overhaul... just a full galaxy reset!". The first part of that is right... but it won't be a reset. When they last changed things and extincted my friends outside my bases (with with remarkable pin-point accuracy), that was Origins. And clearly I still have those bases, because there was no reset with that one. I had a nice lush bash that turned into a swamp, but the terrain and the base were still there. The fancy new terrain they added was put on new planets... and there's still plenty room for more. In short, they can add and change things a lot without a reset, so why would they.
People might think that's what's needed to get a lot more procedural variation into the game... but the thing is, progen has this curse called "human pattern recognition". There's already a large amount of variation but people put into a small of boxes (glossing details) to deal with it better... and if you increased things by an order of magnitude, they'd be calling for more in few days, because human pattern recognition would take that 10x variation and collapse it to about the same number of boxes as before, but with a couple more. And that's what makes it cursed... you can put in a major effort and buy 3 days and have people think that things haven't changed that much at all. All because people are very good at mentally boxing things. Its a losing battle.

As well as whatever they have planned, i really hope we will be able to upgrade freighter classes. Having to sit for potentially hours just reloading a save and repeating the same battle over and over to try and get an S class is tedious and immersion breaking! We can upgrade everything else, it only makes sense!
I have no idea what the cowboy could mean, but if they're adjusting planets then i would love to have more realistic planet physics, as in there is a higher gravity on larger planets and lower on smaller ones, not just barron moons that have low gravity regardless of their size

They pretty much did say that on the expedition description! "Removing other lifeforms means no shops, no trading, no shortcuts and no help, providing a very different survival experience." :) was a good feeling going back to almost day 1 NMS!

Pie in the sky wish is for an updated proc-gen system that can do stuff like cliffs and beaches better, some kind of trickle down thing from the LNF work they've been doing.

Please let us have "eva" extra vehicular activities (in space) and player buildable space bases. There is a Lot of other great ideas about improvement, but this would be my wish for the update. Think about claiming empty flyable vessels in the emptyness of Space. Standing on asteroids. The scene in adrift where you are flying without ship in space teased me hugely about that.

I got the Origins DVD and it sat on the shelf until just before the Omaga ex. I have 3 or 4 mains with at least 90+ hours. I hope they don't reset the Galaxy. If I lose my bases/saves I would probably crawl in my bed and cry.... If I have to start over I'll have a nervous breakdown.....
Hopefully we get multi-biome planets and maybe like jungles and forests would be cool
While I know it's gonna be a NMS update but how cool would it be if it was both a major update for NMS and another trailer for LNF not a release date trailer but just another trailer maybe announcing what systems it'll be coming to.

I'm calling it: game objective is gonna change. Center of the galaxy is actually gonna be something instead of a light that zooms out.

Question, I got back into NMS after 2019 with a new main save file, if they do a base/structure wipe does that include anything that we can use as markers? Like I've found several really good Mould farm locations that I built simple structures at, is there anything that I can put at the locations that would survive the wipe so I could rebuild there? Assuming the runaway mould locations still remains after the update.
If it is a content update it probably update online services. Add Nintendo switch to it. Make it more fluent. Add freighters to the things that people can see
I respect you tempering your expectations, Jason. However, I still think there will be another tease for Light No Fire. Perhaps we'll see a release date. First off, Earth is a very specific emoji to choose, not just any planet, Earth. Secondly, July is a quiet month for game announcements; they'll be able to maximize their press exposure and hype. Sean would not be posting so much for something as meager as a rebalance to planet tech or a new planet type. As for how he'll differentiate NMS posts from LNF posts, I expect he'll change his X avatar to something LNF related at the same time. So here's hoping we see a new trailer tomorrow. Sean, GIB US LIGHT NO FIRE!

Multiple biomes per planet. More variety of biomes and the flora and fauna. That's my bet. I think they are going to import some of the new tech they have developed for Light No Fire, meaning greater variety per location.

Maybe adding a "home planet" for the travellers, an Atlas produced Earth, works sort of like the anomally but an entire planet with unique locations.

What if the update is in fact a $20 purchase of a link that leads you to the Light No Fire planet and you can start your adventuring there instead of buying a whole new game ? Wouldn't that be a cool reward to the thousands of loyal players for all the years of support ?

You can't build new ones? So, what are you doing now that they are built? Nothing. It would give you something to do rebuild. It's not like a base really matters. If you couldn't build one the game doesn't change.

@@Fletchman1313 You don't lose money, Nanites, Ships, etc. Just bases will be removed.
Though, it's possible that bases stick around. It depends on if they update old, discovered worlds, or just update ones no one has uploaded to the database.
@@BRSTaisen So... Maps are reset? If you have a freighter do you just start there when you log on after the reset? (or maybe there weren't freighters back then)
