The better way to do this is to land on water, spawn submarine, locate and fly to ship. No messing around with charts. Though honestly you'll have so much money from selling ships if you see a C class ship with the parts you want you can just buy and scrap it.
it'd be cool if there were secret ship parts that you could get blueprints for by doing quests or reaching reputation milestones or something, and we could use the scrap from scrapping ships to fabricate them at the ship builder
I find it alot easier to use the Minotuar's scanner and scan for distress signals. Plus if it doesn't find a distress signal and instead gives you a crashed freighter site, just scan until it gives you the distress signal :)
You could also do ship salvage missions for the autophage assuming you've made contact with them and as a bonus doing the autophage mission's not only grants ship parts your autophage faction standing goes up plus you get void motes. Though I'm almost certain that using the charts is faster i just think my method would work really well if someone was trying to grind for void motes and get ship parts.
Those charts to find crashed ships is really only useful to make money early on. For finding ship parts it increases the time due to a lower pool of available ships to get the one with the part you want. If you want the fighter Vector with fin wing, first you have to find those showing up in a system and they may only show up at a trade outpost on a planet rather than the station. So once you found the wings you need to use the maps and go from crashed ship to crashed ship and hope the RNG gods doesn't give you nothing but haulers and they give mostly haulers because that's the largest pool of available ships in the system. So hope for the ship you want but take every single one you find, repair it enough to get it to the station and scrap it for money. Then take that money and buy C class versions of the ship you want, most always less than 2 million units. Getting the nanites for the expensive S class reactor is just fighting sentinels and grab the supplies they drop for the ammo atleast.
I don’t know if anyone needs this but if you want to level up any of the 3 guilds (Merchants, Explorers, and Mercenaries) then go to the new shop and DONATE. Each donation will give you 1 standing. In around an hour I was able to almost fully upgrade the merchants guild. Hope this helps 👍
see? the ship hunting is more fun now than before now u have the option to keep, scrap or get the parts and getting the parts is not easy because u can only get one part of the ship so if you got the wings you like you still need the cockpit and engine which is random bcs you dont know what ship you will find is also harder now to decide what to do ,maybe you find a very expensive ship but you like parts of that ship so you have to decide
You really are the best guy at explaining any craziness in video games. you research the data, you present it so damn well and you answer pretty much all the potential questions anyone would have in the same video. You really are amazing, sir! bravo!!!
Actually gonna be very helpful. I already have 3 of the s class cores, said why not and bought one thinking itd be harder to get from missions only to find two missions each giving one… yeah…
Good video. Just a note after you claim the ship and fix the engines you can fly your existing ship to the space station instead of the crashed one and then swap summon it in the pad when you get there. It's safer.
To say each ship costs close to 20-50mill+ in this context is kind of disingenuous. C class is all you need to buy for parts, and even C class haulers only cost line 15mill max? You can basically buy parts for around 5mill if you can find them or just have the patience to sit at a station/outpost
Navigation data can also be found on planets from the glowing red cubes on small pillars that you find in large groups, those planets will have tons of those everywhere. A tip he didn't show, if you use the TAG function to highlight the one with the pilot, you don't have to guess if you forgot.
Don't use nav charts... you'll spend FOREVER trying to find one distress signal or tower. Use Nautilon scanner to find drowned ships on water planets... you're welcome.
What I would do is to go to the emergency beacon with the pilot but land far enough away that I don't trigger it when I exit. And then place a marker near it so I always know which is the one with the crashed pilot.
I'm at an empass because I spent 3 hours hunting down my S class fighter that I would most likely have built anyway. What we wanted is current ships, as is current character customization. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE THIS! Buuuut. Not quite the checkmark. Good step in the right direction. HELLO GAMES... I have money. Charge something small, don't get the gamer pitchforks out.
You're doing it the slow and expensive way myguy. Find a water planet, jump to it in your freighter, drop onto the planet near ANY water, summon your submarine, scan, jump back in your ship, fly to the drowned ship location, done and done. No pilots remaining, no buying or opening anything, prob the hardest part is finding a water planet with the type of ship you like on it.
Once you have a marker for a ship with a pilot, go to a different planet and activate the charts inside the atmosphere and it will only mark abandoned ships on the planet you're on. Quicker than doing it from space and having to fly to different planets.
I remember seeing a video about a year or two ago showing how to scrap a crashed ship without fixing any part of it. It had something to do with claiming the ship, then getting back into your first ship & either flying or teleporting to your freighter, which somehow makes the crashed ship able to fly. I'm not sure if it still works, though.
really wish I would have known this back in the early days of ship hunting, so much time lost by not having all beacons up at the same time to keep getting just the one you are looking for.
Quick note. You don't need to fly it to the space station. You can fly in your normal ship and once landed on the station, use the summoning feature to swap out your current ship.
The nanite price for a random map is really, really cheap. If you want a ton of charts, it doesnt hurt to check what kind of random map you received. The type of map that you'll be given for the nanites is static per-vendor. If you recieve a distress map when selecting the random option, then that merchant will ALWAYS give you distress maps when you pay nanites. Nav data is free, but the farming can take a while, especially early in the game. The low price of 90 nanites will net you 6 maps.
Instead of manually looking at the "bad" distress beacon every time you use a new map, just mark the bad one as your destination target and keep it marked. Then when you use a new map just go to the distress beacon that is not your highlighted destination marker.
You don't need to fly to the space station in the new ship. Just walk back to your old ship after claiming the new one. Get in and fly to the station. Providing you fixed the cockpit and landing gear; you can just call any of your ships and they will be there. Saves time and effort fixing all the stuff and flying around in junk ships.
Given the customization of starships also represents different races, I predict that since the trailer clearly showed shuttles as an option, although not included, that we'll get it in the future and it will represent the Autophage race. Think about it, a race introduced later made up of random scrapped robotic parts. Writing on the wall to me folks 😉
Im new to NMS but i accidentally figured out that if u claim a crashed ship, dont repair it. Go to your base, teleport to the spacestation, then back to ur base, the use X or doen on d pad to call in the crashed ship. Then go back to space station and the crashed ship is selected when you go to customization module
I'm fairly new to the game (even though I did play it at launch, briefly). I was wondering what benefit you get from helping the stranded pilot waiting at the crash site? I'm guessing improved standing with whatever race he is....
You can also temporarily turn on Free crafting from the difficulty settings, craft a ton of Warp Hypercores, and sell them for millions to just buy the starships and save a bunch of time
I tried this method last night but i did a mistake...instead of using all the carts before go to the signals, i did it one by one... So no abandoned ship showed to me. You must use all the carts before do ship hunting. Ill try it again tonight. Thanks Jason!
@@rosstjeerdsma9333 Excellent question. I repaired the couple of ships I claimed earlier. Was actually about to hop on in a little bit and try it without repairing.
@@rosstjeerdsma9333 Claim it, dont repair anything. Get back in your main starship go to your freighter, choose broken ship in freighter and use the teleport in your freighter to any station and break it. It was like this before this update and still is, never repaired a ship below s level.
Just buy and scrap every single ship that comes in for an hour or three and you'll have 200 million, as the scrap is generally worth much more than the cost of the ship. I now wait for B class or better, as you buy them for more, of course, but their scrap is also worth much more and you accumulate $ more quickly. And also, when you look for components you want, like a really cool cockpit, wait until you get one with your preferred cockpit, level C. Spend 1 million or less on that cockpit. You also do not need to fly the claimed ship to the space station. You can go there in your main ship and just call the claimed one there, as long as you fixed the engines.
So there's no way to claim a broken ship, and scrap it "without" fixing the engine and launch thrusters? I seem to remember an exploit in an earlier version. I guess they've patched that one?
while this can be seen as an exploit you can get the parts needed to fly the crashed ship repaired without resources if you go to the anomaly with your main ship and switch ships after landing it will automatically fix the landing and pulse drive. it has to be in the anomaly it wont work in space stations. to be fair the resources are cheap so its not really saving much time. depending on the system it can be faster to use the anomaly to warp to the station they removed a lot of the warp load time in the same system. (at least on xbox)
Also for anyone wondering if you guys get your hands on starship ai valves and sell stacks of 50 you’ll get 600 million units. For anyone who doesn’t know.
Even easier: Go to a space station and while waiting for a ship you want a part from... buy all the other ships that come in and scrap them for money. You make roughly double for every ship you buy when scrapping it. Additionally you get upgrades and ship storage augmentations for free. You win all around and when you take parts out of some of the ships you won't even notice the money drop. Do this for a few yours and you are rich!
instead of flying the claimed ship back to he space station to scrap. Simply leave it after you claim it, go back to the space station in your normal ship, and swap ships to your newly claimed.
From what I heard can't get parts from sentinel ships, so don't do this in corrupted systems. I will test this when update drops for me to confirm this.
Interesting video, but it comes down to time vs money. Fastest and easiest way to get ship parts you want is to focus on making money and then you can buy whatever ships you want 😂

You don't have to repair the ships! Take your regular ship and fly into the anomaly, and then change your docked ship! Does not repair the shields but you can just teleport to a space station, or switch back to your regular ship
Don't fix it, 1. claim it. 2. recall your working ship. 3. go to the anomaly 4. switch ship to the broken one. 5. use anomaly portal to a space station 6. scrap/part out the ship.
Dont forget Barrel fabricators (base décoration) they randomly give u charts
Thanks for this. I had been using distress signal charts but didn’t realize you can optimize the results like this.
see? the ship hunting is more fun now than before
now u have the option to keep, scrap or get the parts
and getting the parts is not easy because u can only get one part of the ship so if you got the wings you like you still need the cockpit and engine which is random bcs you dont know what ship you will find
is also harder now to decide what to do ,maybe you find a very expensive ship but you like parts of that ship so you have to decide
It's safer.
Last video I saw of yours you had over 150 mil. Something tells me that you learned this the hard way…
To say each ship costs close to 20-50mill+ in this context is kind of disingenuous. C class is all you need to buy for parts, and even C class haulers only cost line 15mill max? You can basically buy parts for around 5mill if you can find them or just have the patience to sit at a station/outpost
Very informative exactly what I was looking for, and thank god I found someone who can explain things with clarity for us noobs so thanks for that! 😁
Imagine actually being able to play the update 😭
know what you mean i play this from the game pass on my pc and still no update yet even for xbox users

Really disappointed with how long it is taking for xbox. They claim it is released but it's not. Ugh
They are saying next week!? I'll never xbox again...
I use the little submarine crashed ship every try.
Great video Jason. Every time I watch one of your videos I have an "I never knew that" moment.
Stop asking for micro transactions...smdh
Finally some good explanation of this mechanic. Thanks dude!
Works a treat. I went from 1 ship to 5 and about 10 million with scraping in about 2hrs.
Tks for the video, It help me alot. I found out an abandon Hauler and claimed it, but I could find back my started ship. Tks again
really wish I would have known this back in the early days of ship hunting, so much time lost by not having all beacons up at the same time to keep getting just the one you are looking for.
Oh man! Thank you so much. This is gonna help me a lot.
Don't forget that the submarine can just ping for crashed ships.
I'm fairly new to the game (even though I did play it at launch, briefly). I was wondering what benefit you get from helping the stranded pilot waiting at the crash site? I'm guessing improved standing with whatever race he is....
You can also temporarily turn on Free crafting from the difficulty settings, craft a ton of Warp Hypercores, and sell them for millions to just buy the starships and save a bunch of time
Why not use the scan ability from your mech.. it allows you to.seqrch for a distress signal for free . The minotaur is the mech I speak of
I tried this method last night but i did a mistake...instead of using all the carts before go to the signals, i did it one by one... So no abandoned ship showed to me. You must use all the carts before do ship hunting. Ill try it again tonight. Thanks Jason!
FYI, you can summon the claimed ship at the station now too. No need to fly it back.
Do you have to repair it 1st or not?
@@rosstjeerdsma9333 Excellent question. I repaired the couple of ships I claimed earlier. Was actually about to hop on in a little bit and try it without repairing.
@@rosstjeerdsma9333 Just tested, and you DO have to make the minimum repairs.
@@rosstjeerdsma9333 Claim it, dont repair anything. Get back in your main starship go to your freighter, choose broken ship in freighter and use the teleport in your freighter to any station and break it. It was like this before this update and still is, never repaired a ship below s level.
Why would you fly your wrecked ship to the station? Fly your good ship and swap ships at the station (which you can do now)
Really enjoy the tips to get resources. Thanks
Bookmarking this for later use. Thank you.
Only just started playing this weekend. The planet or system effect what type or class spawns?
Buy the ship in working condition, scrap it, and get one usable part...
I like your videos bro it was a good help form me ty .
while this can be seen as an exploit you can get the parts needed to fly the crashed ship repaired without resources if you go to the anomaly with your main ship and switch ships after landing it will automatically fix the landing and pulse drive. it has to be in the anomaly it wont work in space stations. to be fair the resources are cheap so its not really saving much time. depending on the system it can be faster to use the anomaly to warp to the station they removed a lot of the warp load time in the same system. (at least on xbox)
Also for anyone wondering if you guys get your hands on starship ai valves and sell stacks of 50 you’ll get 600 million units. For anyone who doesn’t know.
Yea but the only legit way to get one is by scrapping a ship worth 50 million or more.
Uee the sonar on your nautilon or the minator to find crashed ship for absolute free freedom!!
Nice video Jason
you could also just repair the 2 parts, leave the ship and summon your capital ship near the space station
instead of flying the claimed ship back to he space station to scrap. Simply leave it after you claim it, go back to the space station in your normal ship, and swap ships to your newly claimed.
Or, you can just change your difficulty settings.
From what I heard can't get parts from sentinel ships, so don't do this in corrupted systems. I will test this when update drops for me to confirm this.
Right now only fighters, haulers and explorers are good for parts. Hopefully they open up more models in the future.
You can't get parts from sentinels, exotics, solars, shuttle and ofc living. Tested all, right now only fighters, haulers and explorers.
Still waiting for the xbox update, please Jason help us make pressure to both Microsoft and hello games to be released soon!
I just want them to acknowledge and make an announcement and give an update
They did yesterday, it won't be released until early next week on Xbox and game pass
Are you goddamn kidding me... I'll never xbox again
There is a annoyed glitch in the abandoned building.. In the building there is a consoles you can check the logs as much as times
I can’t wait till Xbox gets this update next year
When does it actually come out?
@@jamiegunn2259 don’t know still waiting
You can just fly back in your good ship and swap ships at the station. Silly to fly back with no shields.
Interesting video, but it comes down to time vs money.
Fastest and easiest way to get ship parts you want is to focus on making money and then you can buy whatever ships you want 😂
Bro y’all so lucky Xbox doesn’t get this update till next week 😂😂
Where did you see that
Building a crap ton of barrel fabricators in your base can net you a bunch of nav data
Cant wait to use this for when xbox finally drops the update. when the happens. maybe next year. :(
Another way to get nav data is fly around a planet with life & scan for unknown buildings.
This video was super informative, thank you! random question but I have a damaged ship and I got it to the space station and wanted parts from it, but the option to break into parts is greyed out. What do I do do get parts like wings etc from it?
thank you that is useful info!
You don't have to repair the ships! Take your regular ship and fly into the anomaly, and then change your docked ship! Does not repair the shields but you can just teleport to a space station, or switch back to your regular ship
Also works with your freighter instead of the anomaly.
Ship parts? I doubt there’s gonna be ship parts for my living ships.
Nah, it listed in patch notes it's currently only explorers, fighters, and haulers.
I only wish sentinel ships could come with different or cleaned up cockpits
jason good job :)
if you dont care about them you can also scrap the twitch reward ships for parts
you don't need to fix the ship, just claim it then fly back with the ship you came with, and at the station swap to the broken ship
Don't fix it, 1. claim it. 2. recall your working ship. 3. go to the anomaly 4. switch ship to the broken one. 5. use anomaly portal to a space station 6. scrap/part out the ship. Yes this still works I did it yesterday. edit: Sorry to the creator I learned this from for not giving you credit, I can't remember you channel.
