I bought the quartz a month ago and have worn it every day. I love it! Always wanted the mechanical but then this quartz came along and it just clicked with me straight away. Dial is less fussier, I love the British style rail track. As you say I also felt closer to this watch with its British military theme. I love that it is quartz. I have to wear a G Shock for work so when I get home and throw the Khaki on I know it is ready to go. Which is something I can’t always say about some of my automatics.
Love this one! I more and more turn my back on mechanical and go back to quartz. Don't even care about ticking and complaining watch-snobs anymore! Thanks Russ, cheers!
8:05 I have found with some (most?) quartz watch movements that the hacking feature is rendered almost pointless by the minute hand moving when I push the crown in to start the movement again. This appears to be the case with this Hamilton quartz too.
They put Hamilton on the trailer with that one, i mean it's SO much closer to the actual ethos of what that type of watch is supposed to be it make the Khaki look like a poser.
So. Seiko made a Quartz Khaki Homage, under their sub-brand Pulsar, looks just like the vintage Hamilton Khaki. Funny thing is, Pulsar was owned by Hamilton and acquired by Seiko in 1978. Lucky for us, Seiko “stole” or “retained” the Khaki design and you can buy them cheap. I call it my Pulsar Khaki and I’m not wrong 😂 Get Ya Watch Out!!!
The price is t in the movement my friend. Too many people fixate on the engine. Everything around it is close to the mechanical if not the same. Very hard to lower the price more as they’ve overpriced the mechanical
Mmmm easy pass. Uninspired, flat crystal, splashproof (can’t use it in the gents) and waaayyyy too expensive. Micro brands, such as Baltany, are making much more for much less. That aside great show as usual..👍👍

I think this is a great release. A Victorinox quartz field watch was my first "grown up" watch when I was in university. While Victorinox sadly does not have a similar model now, these would be great for either that entry level watch or a grab-n-go piece. I even remember how much that Victorinox cost, and adjusted for inflation it was US$15 less, but only had mineral crystal to the sapphire of the Hammy. Well played, Hamilton. If you still think it's too expensive, it will be available at a discount in the not too distant future, as mentioned in the video. The wife endorsement seals the deal on this new Hamilton release. Gold star.
This watch makes a lot of sense being quartz and I'm considering getting one once I get employment again. Lost my job, but it happens. I still have my Seiko 38mm solar fresh from Japan to keep me happy for now. Russ is the best watch youtuber, and I'm not just saying it because he likes Seiko too.
This watch is definitely on my "to buy" list for next year. Love the fact that there's no date complication too. I'd get one now, except I just got a Seiko Arnie. By the way, it was the videos by you, Jody, and Marc that convinced me it'd fit my skinny wrist. And what do you know, it's a great fit, super comfortable. Thanks!
Has to be said. Mechanical. 100% That mechanical looks sooooo much more premium. And, yes, when it comes to function, quartz>mechanical on nearly ever metric. But not a chance I'd choose that quartz over the mechanical version.
I love that Khaki Quartz dial! As you said, the Mechanical is an icon among watch enthusiasts but removing the 24 hour scale and that railroad minute markers really is something special. The price is too high for me to consider adding one to my collection (and besides, I’m very happy with my Field Mechanical formally owned by The Mad Watch Collector himself!). Awesome show as always MWC!
Baltany makes 36-38mm field watches with sapphire crystal, 100m water resistance (screw down caseback and screw-in crown) and automatic seiko movement for 170 USD. Now I know that you pay for the history of hamilton watches and a valuable brand name, but still. Also boderry came out with a titanium field watch with 100m wr as well at 38mm for 110 USD
You can get them for 20% off easily. The second hand isn't hitting the markers on the quartz I got sent. Bit disappointing, will have to send it back. The quartz feels a bit lighter and cheaper but the lug to lug is a lot more simpler. Cheers,
Check out the timex expedition north field. A microbrand called waer has pretty good solar field watches. The citizen garrison ecodrive in titanium would be perfect if they would make it 38 mm

I agree with all your points and criticisms. I would add that it would have been nice to have the option of the 24 hour style dial like the original. But the biggest dusappoint for me is (again!), they didn't offer a 36mm version!
The dial design is a winner, but as many have discussed the price is an issue. I recently bought a Baltany Dirty Dozen Quartz, with some specs exceeding Hamilton's for £45 brand new.
The Heavy Drive movement is a bit special in that it is probably the least expensive high accuracy quartz movement ETA makes. I have it in my watch ( different brand, same movement ), and it's accurate to about 3 seconds a month. The way to tell is that this has three jewels instead of the normal ETA movements' 2. It also has shock protection as well, so it's a good item. The downside is.. you can get it in other watches for a bit less money. Mine cost $250 USD.
I think Hamilton really hit the mark with this one and I really enjoyed the review of this watch. The wrist shot in the video really sold me on this one.
Місяць тому+2
They could have made it 100m water resistant without a screw down crown
I was a latecomer to Hamilton. I was going to buy the KFA years ago but didn’t. I bought the KFA about 5 months ago and love it. Also bought the new Murph on the bracelet which is amazing also. My 2 Hamiltons have replaced any and all of my seikos as my favourite watches.
Great review mate and nice seeing them side by side. The price increases are disgusting. Agree should be a bit cheaper, drilled lugs and screw down would have made sense. Got the field mechanical which is already thin. Perhaps i should sell and pick up the quartz when it's cheaper as id appreciate a bit shorter lug to lug. Got the mechanical for a good price though.
Wolbrook/Douglas Outrider Professional Mecaquartz, 38mm, screw down crown with 120m water resistance, Seiko mecaquartz movement, hesalite crystal, drilled lugs and swiss Super Luminova, and all for £160 , a much better option
I still have my Hamilton mechanical, (from back when they were affordable) I also have a Militado ML05 which for anyone wanting all the looks and better specs WITH a screw crown and sapphire for £40 it's a no brainer.
CWC have their upgrade g10 model. For £350, they have their swiss made, sapphire, screw down crown, screw on caseback and 200m water resistance! Definitely one to look at instead
I picked up a Timex Expedition North last weekend for $50 less and its both automatic and titanium. The finishing on the Hamilton is probably better but I still think the Timex is a better value
Thank you for “watching” till the end - geddit? I like this one. When you said quartz of course I said “eurgh!” But I get it now. It’s enthusiast quartz and that’s fine!
The Field Mechanical looks identical to my Timex Expedition but, a lot more expensive! I also don't see the issue with the depth rating, very few people actually go deeper than the deep end of their local swimming pool.
Well this puts me in my very own quartz crisis. I sold my mechanical a month ago to help fund a CW65 Super compressor that I wanted to take on holiday with me. Problem is that I've started to miss the khaki and was thinking about buying another one. Mine was running less than a second a day and had a lovely chiming sound if I held it to my ear that really gave it character. My biggest problem was that the lugs were too long and annoyed me even on my 7 inch wrist so the quartz sounds ideal plus I love the less cluttered and smaller dial and think the proportions sound much better. I have no problem with quartz and own many but I really loved that particular mechanical so now I'm in a quartz crisis. Do I buy the mechanical again and still have the same issues or do I go for the quartz? 🤷
Almost fell out of my chairs when I heard Mrs. MWC’s thoughts. 😅 and yes, before you even mentioned it, I will patiently wait for Jomashop to get their hands on the quartz. Great review as always!
I'd still take a traditional three hand over a G shock (although i wear a square G for work for the hourly chime) but i just cant spend almost $400 for a watch with the same WR as a $40 Timex Expedition.
Having a screw-down crown in a manual winding watch is a disadvantage. Given that you need to wind it every three days or so, you will just wear down the threads fast and youll end with a popped crown 😆
Quartz all day long...... would actually like the 33mm, but would be great if they would make it in bronze. With the longer lug to lug it still wears larger than the 33mm would suggest.
While this is a nice option and priced well for the brand name, there are many Ali Express quartz choices, for 65% less, that have the very similar military look. There are also NH-35 autos that are 1/2 the price with very similar military looks. It's very hard to justify the price differences unless one wants a Swiss Made (using this term very loosely) watch with the Hamilton name. But a nice quartz military watch that meets a price point.
Interesting review and comparison Russ, both nice but very pricey. When its a Swiss watch from an established brand but different ownership. That brand name makes up most of what you are paying for. In reality they are probably buying in parts from China. Baltany, are knocking out far superior military inspired beauties for less than half the price that are better in so many ways, including the upgrades you are looking for, ie water resistance. Could we get a head to head with these two and a couple of Baltany’s offerings Russ? (Or would that mess up your sweet deal with F & G?)
No doubt my friend. However 50% of why I choose a watch is for the story or history. This watch pulls inspiration from military issued watches from 3 decades by this brand. The craft of this brand has been forged over 100 years . The ownerships change but the learning from one owner to the next gets past down . The reputation of this brand is rightfully high. It wouldn’t matter to me how good a Baltany watch is if I can’t grab a story from them with the watch. Why has this watch been made??? Is it to pull at the heartstrings of those that THINK they can’t afford Swiss watches ? WHO need a quick fix with a watch with just good specs. I just need more than good specs and value for money my friend
I have and love the mechanical 38mm. I prefer its long lugs think more design character I also love the domed glass and this has neither. I do prefer the cleaner dial and lumed numbers but don't like the Khaki font.
Tbh i have never paid full prices for watches from dealers i normally go to frances&gaye or first class watches, which is were i purchased my coop and murph from the film interstellar and i got them for 752 and 760 so i will probably get the khaki field quartz but the 38mm version not the 33,i will probably pay about 260.
I don't think it will sell as much as they'd like based on what you get for your money. There are many alternatives now for more than 50% less with better specs. I personally really like this new design visually and the lug to lug is spot on. I imagine they will fetch just under £200 used, I would be tempted for maybe £170. But the lack of screw down crown and 100m WR is a deal breaker. I think it will be a deal breaker for most people. I was waiting for Hamilton to release a 38mm with shorter lugs and increased WR. They know. Yet they did not deliver and its going to hurt their sales.
I'm afraid I would give them both a swerve for that money, for me I would like the dial from the auto in the quartz and put a nice plain black leather strap. However not for £375.
You’re just such a legend mate 😁 Love the final 1 second of the video. Personally I don’t like the addition of the logo and the ‘Khaki’ text, I think it looks a bit naff. But lovely watches.
I would stay with the original field mechanical or take a 47 dollar Militado. 100 m WR, Saphire and drilled lugs. Can hardly beat this package if you are ok with a quartz
I have the same Khaki mechanical as yours Russell purchased 18 months ago and as you've already covered its strengths and weaknesses l agree with what you say 😉 But the redicullasy overpriced Quarzt version is not for me because you can get as you probably know a new non issued CWC G10 from Silvermans for £289 as of today which is a no brainer in my opinion and has true military military use in its pedigree! PS l am CWC biased owning quite a fee but design wise of the Hammilton is simmler to the CWC dial face 😀
Even among big brands, it's quite a bit overpriced. I don't know why I would buy this over the Seiko 5 field gmt unless I'm really desperate for sapphire crystal, which I'm not.
What is the pb with lugs not drilled? It makes removing the strap a little easier but doesn't help you put it back. Useless and cost increasing feature. Anyway quartz so nope
Yeah, if I'm going to buy a Hamilton, it'll be used because I am not paying their inflated prices. I was actually about to buy a Khaki King when the prices jumped, and I'm still mad about it. Not Mad Watch Collector mad, just angry mad.
I bought the quartz a month ago and have worn it every day. I love it!

Bring out a PVD version on a black nato and remove the fauxtina and I’ll sign up to one!
Love the dial...but 50m and £ make it a no go....
Can't wait for AliExpress to release this with a screw down crown. 😮
I would stay with the original field mechanical or take a 47 dollar Militado. 100 m WR, Saphire and drilled lugs. Can hardly beat this package if you are ok with a quartz
What about the CWC G10 quartz? Cheaper and, I think, not just an homage.
I bought the khaki field mechanical $345 on Jomashop. Probably 5 years ago.
Quartz! Cleaner, clearer, more lume, easier to read and more accurate… should I go on?
Just buy the Seiko 5 military automatic and u are ok..❤
The list of superior-in-every-way alternatives to this watch for a fraction of the price is miles long. Please reply with your personal suggestion.
Thoughts on the 33mm variant?
Thoughts on the Bronze version Russ?
To be fair, purely due to inflation, a watch costing £375 in 2020, would be over £460 today. They've still added a bit on of course.
I own the 38mm quarts,i think if they given it a protected screw in crown the price whoud be good, but for nouw its too much imo.
Love my Khaki King. I think why do I own other watches when I have it on.
I have the same Khaki mechanical as yours Russell purchased 18 months ago and as you've already covered its strengths and weaknesses l agree with what you say 😉
But the redicullasy overpriced Quarzt version is not for me because you can get as you probably know a new non issued CWC G10 from Silvermans for £289 as of today which is a no brainer in my opinion and has true military military use in its pedigree!
PS l am CWC biased owning quite a fee but design wise of the Hammilton is simmler to the CWC dial face 😀
Why does no one mention the 33mm?
Just because there wasn’t a mechanical counterpart my friend
They are both great to be sure. I think the dive rating is just fine. Dive rating in general is over rated in my opinion. Nice review MWC!
how is nobody talking about the Khaki Field Titanium auto 36mm Limited Edition Engineered Garments?
Just ordered mine. Finally a Khaki Field with the right size and 100m WR.
Even among big brands, it's quite a bit overpriced.
I don't know why I would buy this over the Seiko 5 field gmt unless I'm really desperate for sapphire crystal, which I'm not.
Will regular watches, quartz and automatic watches disappear in the face of smart watches, or will they maintain their market?
What is the pb with lugs not drilled? It makes removing the strap a little easier but doesn't help you put it back. Useless and cost increasing feature. Anyway quartz so nope
I prefer my CWC G10, which is also cheaper.
So do i
Ready for battle and any action, but not if it involves a bit of water.
I do like a quartz. 😊
What happend at the end? Did you fell??? Looks like it. Hope you're okay.
Wish Casio made something like this. It's a bit out of my price range, with $250 being as high as I'd go.
cwc
Militado ML05 for around 40 quid, your welcome x

Superb video👌🏻
Yeah, if I'm going to buy a Hamilton, it'll be used because I am not paying their inflated prices. I was actually about to buy a Khaki King when the prices jumped, and I'm still mad about it. Not Mad Watch Collector mad, just angry mad.
