Im guilty of the same thing and will say it wasn't that big. I always get called out about "crow hopping" before a hook set. That term comes from baseball. A outfielder trying to throw out a base runner. Lmao. #Guilty!!
I started fishing seriously when I lived in Florida. Anytime I fish live bait I ALWAYS fish a Circle hook. You don't have to set the hook just let them have it and basically just reel into them. The circle hook will fall in the corner of their mouth everytime. No matter of it's the small hook or big hook a circle hook is the way to go.
Thats the case with gar and maybe catfish. but bass u need to set the hook as they are on so u can hook them before they let go or run so fast to where they are sonic. lol
I respect and your option but I'm gonna have to disagree. If I swing on a bass with a circle hook I'm gonna pull the hook out if it's mouth. Just my experience.
I recently caught a 5 pounder on live bluegill, what works for me is hooking them right behind the dorsal fins, and tossing it out with just a hook, no bobber but I don't know about with current though. Also the best part of the bluegill for cut bait is the head. Good luck👍🎣
This was a great video! Definitely want to see more of these. It really brings it home to see you guys out there fishing like a lot of us are fishing with so many unknowns. Great video again! I learned a lot.
I was crappie fishin one time off our boat with minnows and my ultra light started slowly bending over and we ended up getting in a 20 pound gar on a ultra light
How you doing noah. Been watching your videos for a long time. I'm 65 years old and still learning on bass fishing. But I have put you on my bucket list. I just had some cancer removed from my life and it was the fourth time. Three times on my back and this time. So depending on where I end up and it could be Tennessee or New Jersey I'm going to find a way to look you up. Right now I'm in Arizona, and I definitely would need to upgrade my equipment to fish with you.
Good video. Maybe try cutting the dorsal fins off of the bluegill so they become less mobile and appear to be injured to bass. cast closer to the banks. Most bass hang around structure and not so much in the middle of the lake.
For the chunk bait you can use little nets and magic string. Wrap the net around the bait, tie it up with the magic string, then hook it and wrap more magic string around the bait and hook so it stays on better. Works for me when I cat fish! Nice vid bro keep em coming
So I do live bait all the time. I never use bobbers. I actually use a catfish rig called a 3 way rig. It's pretty much like a drop shot. I use a 1 ounce sinker to hold the bluegill in one spot. If it's a strong current might have to go even bigger on sinker. How far up to put the gill is up to you. Just look up 3 way rig for set up info.I also use a Carolina rig and it works just fine as well. I catch bass and cats like this. Also, I enjoy when you switch up the vids. Good stuff brother.
Noah, I would suggest using a Carolina rig with a circle hook for cutbait. I use a 9 inch steel leader on the end. Works great for catfish and I even get the occasional bass to eat it.
You gotta go out at midnight after a hard rain or while it’s raining and find some night crawlers to fish with for bass! Put them on some crawler harnesses
U ever catch flatheads? Those bluegill are huge to be throwin out on those lil bass rods. U catch a big flathead on those its gon be fun. U might not get it in but it will be fun.
"I just tie the uni for everything", I also tie the uni for when I'm putting new line on, tying my weight to the line, and rigging a new lure or hook. LOL
Nice catches. That gar would be considered below average size here in Texas. We get some GIANTS!! 8Ft. plus! Keep up the good work. A cool video would be to catch some of these brood x cicadas and use them as bait. The largies will eat em up!
Carolina rig for live bait. 1-1/2 oz egg weight then barrel swivel then bout 3 foot liter and then like a 6/0 circle hook with live bream. (Hooked right under the back of the top fin.
Love the live bait videos, do more of the one's that catch an assortment of fish not just a targeted species, they are much more entertaining, more like what happens when we normal or regular people fish
Glad I found your channel! Just picked up a Cicada top water lure and will be testing it out for the first time this weekend. Last time we went to a local.lake, bass were crushing them as they fell in the lake. Can't wait! Keep it going!
You will catch more bluegill on the bottom from my experience ...toss the worm out on a slack line and you will see them take off with it just reel up and set the hook
from a guy that does a lot of catfishing to a someone who does a lot of bass fishing circle hooks are the best thing for cut bait and last week i caught a 25lb flat head catfish first one ever out of 5 years trying to catch one and it was on a worm but my pb catfish is 36lb blue on cut peace of sucker i caught while trying to catch bream it was 15 inches long and i cut him in half took latterly less then 5 minutes and i looked up to my rod bent over and my drag screaming just trying to give yall some tips hope yall make some more vids like this love the channle guys i was a long time sub but my phone broke about a year back i got a lot of catching up to do
Love the live bait video, I've caught my share of nice bass on live bluegill and green sunfish, and caught my PB bass on cut bait (bluegill head) rigged on a treble hook while targeting gar, an awesome surprise for sure. Anyway keep up the videos, I was never much for bass fishing but have gotten more and more into it and always get tips and tricks from following you and watching your videos.
Bro, catch or buy you some big shiners and use 3/0 EWG, hook em under the dorsal fin with about a foot or two between the hook and the float, it doesn’t have to be fancy but shiners work much better than bluegill, or shad depending on where you are
Carolina rig put a 3/4 of a ounce bullet sinker on 50 lb braid tigh a swivel on the end then put 20 lb fluorocarbon line about 2 feet from the swivel tigh hook to it I use it at the occonnee rive caught a 60 lb flat head catfish
me and my dad make do a 20 pound mono with a weights depending on what waters we are fishing then a swivel then the line with the hook is a 50 pound braided line with a circle hook for cut bait or live but we do that for catfishing
Lemme know what live bait you’d like to see next 🔥 Also hit that LIKE button if you’d like to see some more live bait videos 💯

I have watched all of your live bait videos and I think you should do a lot more of them
Always a show to see the bluegill fly out of the water and the bobber go under!
That was awesome how the fish got off on the other guys pole and Noah caught it😁😁

Doesn’t want bluegil to die but hangs it out of the water for like 7 minutes
I recently caught a 5 pounder on live bluegill, what works for me is hooking them right behind the dorsal fins, and tossing it out with just a hook, no bobber but I don't know about with current though. Also the best part of the bluegill for cut bait is the head. Good luck👍🎣
The head works magic I've had a few times people tell me that they ain't good and got nice sized catfish right after 😂
This was a great video! Definitely want to see more of these. It really brings it home to see you guys out there fishing like a lot of us are fishing with so many unknowns. Great video again! I learned a lot.
I really enjoyed seeing some other species; mudfish (bowfin) are one of my favorites so always enjoy seeing them fished for.
I like how you fish.It teaches people how to fish and do things when people are outside
It's all about the content here. Love it. I'm doing more of this too.
THIS DUDE JUST CAUGHT A FISH THAT BROKE OFF! Noah, you're a straight up G lol

Those little bull head catfish are really good bait
Heck yeah brother catching miss/catfish on a baitcaster people hate on it but I do it all the time

no need for steel leader just buy some heavy big game mono at walmart
@@tarponn6076 my lake needs the steel leader. It’s also good because it weighs the cutbait down more. I was giving my opinion on what I use.
@@tarponn6076 In my opinion, the steel leader is needed because it also lets me cast way farther.
Always Rockin' Noah!! 💪💪 I Love fishing with live bluegill, nothing like it!

Mud fish aka Bowfin are so underrated

I put the big weight at the bottom of the line then tie my hook a bit further up the string that way it slightly floats in the water for catfishing.
